Lee O"Denat Dies; WorldStarHipHop Founder Was 43

Lee O’Denat, a pioneer in the world of music and the founder of popular website WorldStarHipHop, was found dead late Monday night.

He was 43 years old.

Best known within the industry simply as “Q,” O’Denat was both the CEO of WorldStarHipHop and its public face.

According to TMZ, he passed away in his sleep.

Q launched his premiere hip hop website in 2005 when he began posting his mixtapes on the Internet, eventually evolving the URL into a mixture  of hip hop videos, fight footage and other outrageous clips.

As you can imagine, the site really started to take off once cell phone cameras became all the rage.

WorldStarHipHop quickly grew into one of the most popular websites for crazy, unedited and unexpected raw footage from its readers.

But the site also remained a destination for breaking news and fresh music, welcoming up-and-coming artists to submit their tracks and be featured on the home page.

The website gained such momentum over the past few years and become so synonymous with viral content that, often times when something outlandish happened in public, someone would scream out:

WORLDSTAR!

WorldStar has also hosted a multitude of music videos for artists such as Migos, Young Thug, Fetty Wap, Future and many more.

A new series inspired by the site, “World Star TV,” is scheduled to air on MTV2 next month.

“Nothing caught on camera can be denied, it’s right there in front of you = and you can’t question it,” O’Denat said in a 2014 interview about the success of his creation.

“I believe that has contributed to WorldStar’s organic growth in popularity.”.

Further details surrounding Q’s passing are unknown at this time.

In 2015, he was asked by The New York Times why his website featured such adult-themed content, to which the founder replied:

“Hip hop is for the sex, the drugs, the violence, the beefs, the culture. That’s the competitiveness of hip hop, so I felt like the site needed to be R-rated.”

Expect plenty of musicians to express their shock and sympathy over social media in regard to this news as the day progresses.

“My condolences go out to his family. Q was an entrepreneur, a pioneer and all around great guy,” Kevin Black, former President of WorldStarHipHop.com told AllHipHop.com.

We also send our condolences to anyone that knew Q well.

His influence will continue to be felt both online and within the music world for many years to come.

UPDATE: An autopsy will be performed later today, TMZ reports.

It also claims those close to the situation believe Q died of a heart attack.

Greg Lake Dies: Emerson, Lake & Palmer Founder Was 69

Greg Lake –  co-founder of pioneering prog-rock group Emerson, Lake & Palmer – has passed away.

He was 69 years old.

The news comes just nine months after the death of Keith Emerson, Lake’s former bandmate and lifelong friend.

The band’s sole surviving founding member, Carl Palmer, broke the news just moments ago:

“It is with great sadness that I must now say goodbye to my friend and fellow bandmate, Greg Lake,” read a statement issued by Palmer.

“Greg’s soaring voice and skill as a musician will be remembered by all who knew his music and recordings he made with ELP and King Crimson.

“I have fond memories of those great years we had in the 1970s and many memorable shows we performed together. Having lost Keith this year as well has made this particularly hard for all of us.

“As Greg sang at the end of Pictures at an Exhibition, ‘death is life.’ His music can now live forever in the hearts of all who loved him.”

A skilled lyricist, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, many of Lake’s innovations would eventually become archetypal of the genre he helped to create.

After releasing six multi-platinum albums, ELP broke up in 1979 and reunited in 1991, before disbanding again and getting back together for a reunion tour in 2010.

Lake released several successful solo recordings, including “I Believe In Father Christmas”, which remains a seasonal staple in the U.K.

An outpouring of social media tributes quickly made Lake a trending topic on Twitter, with many remarking on the tremendous toll the past year has taken on the world of rock music or pointing out the sad irony of the singer of a beloved Christmas song passing just weeks before the holiday.

Lake was a member of the influential rock group King Crimson in the late ’60s, but it was his work with ELP that got the mainstream to stand up and take notice.

Band manager Stewart Young tells the press that Lake passed away after “a long and stubborn battle with cancer.”

Bill Gothard: Duggar Church Founder Sued For Sexual Abuse

In March of 2014, Institute for Basic Life Principles founder Bill Gothard resigned in disgrace amidst allegations that he had sexually abused dozens of female employees.

Bill Gothard

Last month, after more than a year away from the public eye, Gothard – who might be best known for his close relationship to the Duggar family – relaunched his website and social media accounts, and was immediately bombarded with accusations of sexual assault.

His alleged victims said it was their way of sending Gothard the message that his crimes have not been forgotten, and that they intend to see him in court.

Yesterday, five of those women – Gretchen Wilkinson, Charis Barker, Rachel Frost, Rachel Lees and a Jane Doe – made good on that promise by filing a lawsuit against Gothard in which they each seek $ 50,000 in damages.

Obviously, the suit could prove profoundly damaging for Gothard and his ministry, particularly since it may inspire more of his alleged victims (over 30 in total) to take legal action.

It may also have a negative impact on the reputation of Gothard’s most famous followers – the Duggar family.

The 80-year-old pastor has been linked to the Duggars for decades and may be responsible for some of their most controversial beliefs and actions.

Gothard was involved in “counseling” Josh Duggar after the Michelle and Jim Bob’s eldest admitted to molesting his sisters.

In addition, his IBLP provided the Duggars with homeschooling curricula that teaches children that victims of sexual assault are partially to blame for their attackers’ actions.

While the family is in no way directly linked to the allegations against Gothard, if a court finds that the minister used his power to “cover up sexual abuse and harassment” (as the suit alleges), the Duggars’ already-shrinking fan base may be reminded of the ways in which the 19 Kids and Counting clan did the same.
