Joyce Carol Oates is one of America’s most honored authors. Unfortunately, she might need a refresher course in irony.
On Tuesday, like many others did last July the Black Water author accidentally defended the rights of dinosaurs.

The author saw a photo of what she believed to be animal cruelty and conscientiously tweeted:
So barbaric that this should still be allowed… No conservation laws in effect wherever this is? https://t.co/hgavm9IBaM

The problem is, this was the original tweet:
This guy thinks it’s cool to kill defenceless animals then take a selfie. Jerk. pic.twitter.com/WbgMklrd9u

Yeah, that’s Steven Spielberg sitting next to the animatronic “sick triceratops” on the set of the original Jurassic Park.
The tweet was obviously a joke, though it’s apparent Ms. Oates didn’t look too closely at the “hunter” or the “defenseless animal” before making a snap judgment.
That or she was playing along with the joke? Maybe??
