Mindy Kaling is pregnant with her first child, according to multiple media reports citing sources close to the writer, producer and actress.
It’s not clear who the father of her unborn child is.
While Kaling is currently pregnant, an insider explained that the future arrival for the 38-year-old star has been “an unexpected surprise.”
There will not be any changes made to production schedules for her upcoming projects, however, and she has no shortage of those.
Perhaps the most interesting thing about Kaling’s pregnancy is how little is known at present time about Mindy’s little one, or love life.
She has expressed wanting to have children in the past, however … or at least expressed that she’d be open to the idea if it just happened.
“I think I’ve decided that unlike everything else in my life, I’m going to be fast and loose about kids,” she told Yahoo in kind of a bizarre quote.
“I’m going to not actively plan, but if it happens, it would happen.”
Not sure why having a kid would be the one area of your life you’d allow yourself to be spontaneous with, but to each their own, right?
She also admitted that she would love to have children with the right person, and listed one interesting criteria for who that might be:
“I’m not cavalier about who I would have a kid with.”
“But the thing I ask every parent that I really admire, the one comment they all have is that they wish they had kids earlier.”
Really? No one is glad they had kids at the moment when it actually happened, and all wished they had done so sooner?

Mindy previously dated Benjamin Nugent from 2008-12 and her co-star on The Office B.J. Novak before that, from 2005-07.
Kaling was linked to Cory Booker earlier this year … seriously. Sort of. As we said, it’s unclear who the baby’s father will be.
In any case, it’s a time of major change for her.
The Mindy Project’s sixth and final season is set to air on Hulu later this year, and she joked that it’s reached its natural end point:
“At a certain point it was like, I think she’s dated every man in Manhattan. Sex and the City lasted for, what, six seasons with 10 episodes each?”
“I don’t know that there’s been a show about a woman trying to find love in New York City that has lasted quite this long.”
“And frankly, there’s no more actors left to date.”
Perhaps time will tell who she’s dating – or was dating – in real life that resulted in this unexpected surprise due in a few months.
