108-Year Old Cubs Fan Celebrates World Series Title

By now, you’ve probably heard:

The Chicago Cubs won the World Series title on Wednesday night.

Or on Thursday morning, to be specific, considering how long the 10-inning, rain-delayed affair took.

But that was nothing for an endless array of Cubs fans around the country, many of whom had waited decades to see Chicago finally fly the final W of the season.

The scene outside of Wrigley Field (above) was pretty chaotic and incredible, filmed just moments after the game’s concluding out.

But it wasn’t especially personal, not compared with some of the other footage and photos that have been circulating around the Internet.

Consider this 81-year old, for example, who wasn’t even alive the last time the Cubs won the World Series in 1908.

Check out his reaction to this historic victory:

Or take the case of Hazel Nilson, a 108-year old Chicago supporter who has gone viral due to the way she was “praying for a miracle” in the late innings of Game 7.

And when that miracle actually occurred?

YES BABY!

And that’s the thing about sports. Are there more important things in life than the outcome of a baseball game? Of course.

But there are very few things in life that bond people together in this kind of way.

It can be a matter of tens of thousands of strangers rallying around a common cause and putting aside their other differences for a few hours.

Or it can be a matter of parents and their children who have forged connections over their shared rooting interests that would have been difficult to forge in any other way.

Just look at the photo below.

It depicts Cubs fans last night who scrawled the name relatives that failed to live long enough to see the Cubs finally rule the baseball world. Pretty amazing, huh?

Plus, come on: when else can we all rally around the one and only Bill Murray?!?

Did the Cubs win last night? Yes. But in a way, we were all winners.

Except for Indians fans. Sorry, you guys.

But at least you have the Cavs!
