Prince Update: Percocet Found in Singer"s System at Time of Death

We have an update on the death of Prince.

According to The Minneapolis Star Tribune, the iconic singer had Percocet in his system at the time of his unexpected passing on Thursday, April 21.

As previously detailed, Prince was found unconscious in an elevator at his home in Paisley Park last month.

Authorities announced his death within minutes of arriving on scene.

A source close to the official investigation tells the aforementioned newspaper that the prescription opiate painkiller was detected in the music legend’s body.

However, it’s important to note the following:

Investigators do not yet know whether the presence of this Percocet played a role in his death.

They haven’t confirmed, either, whether, Prince had any kind of cocaine problem.

An autopsy for the artist has been completed, but no cause of death for the 57-year-old has been revealed as of this writing.

Meanwhile, TMZ reports that a criminal probe is also underway.

That site also writes that Prince was taking Percocet, focusing on whether or not doctors were over-prescribing the drug to the star.

Law enforcement in Minnesota are allegedly looking into a trio of possible abuses:

Multiple doctors who overprescribed meds to the singer… aliases the artist and his doctors perhaps could have used… and multiple pharmacies that filled the prescriptions.

An earlier TMZ report claimed that Prince had prescriptions filled at least four times in the seven days prior to his death. That’s a lot.

Moreover, at least one of the pharmacies was 6.1 miles from his home, which was significantly farther away than eight other drug stores.

This would seem to back up the allegation that Prince was filling his prescription at numerous places.

Local authorities have enlisted the assistance of the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the investigation.

The DEA will help determine the origin of the medication and what prescriptions the singer had obtained, according to the U.S. Attorney.

Prince Overdosed on Percocet Just Days Before Death, Source Claims

Yesterday, the world learned that music legend Prince had passed away at his home in Minnesota.

He was just 57 years old.

Rumors about the cause of the singer’s death have been circulating non-stop for the past 24 hours, but no definitive answers have emerged.

Many believe Prince knew his death was coming as a result of cryptic remarks he made following a medical emergency last week.

During a party at his Paisley Park venue following his release from the hospital, Prince told assembled well-wishers to “wait a few days before you waste any prayers.”

Reps for the iconic entertainer claimed that his hospitalization was related to flu symptoms, but witnesses say he appeared to be perfectly healthy at the event near his home just days later.

Yesterday, sources told TMZ that the flu explanation was bunk, and Prince actually overdosed and had to be resuscitated with a “save shot” at the hospital.

Now, the website is claiming to have new details, reporting that it was an overdose of the prescription painkiller Percocet that temporarily stopped Prince’s heart just days before his death.

The near-fatal OD reportedly took place on Prince’s private jet, necessitating an emergency landing in order to save the singer’s life.

EMTs at an Illinois airport were able to save his life, but Prince is said to have given several indications that he didn’t expect to live much longer in the days that followed.

Sources say that in addition to his remarks at Paisley Park, Prince caused concern amidst his inner circle when he began feverishly working on his memoirs, which sadly remained unfinished at the time of his death.

Many are comparing the situation to the events leading up to the death of David Bowie, another music legend who passed unexpectedly and was later found to have been suffering from an illness that he concealed from the public.

No official cause of death has been released in the case of Prince, but a toxicology report and the the results of an autopsy are expected next week.

We will have updates on this tragic passing as more information becomes available.
