The celebrities listed below have all lived through one of the biggest nightmares anyone can ever experience: They have tragically lost a spouse.

1. Liam Neeson
Liam Neeson was married to a celebrity in actress Natasha Richardson. She died after suffering a serious brain injury in 2009 as the result of a fall while skiing.
2. Katie Couric
Katie Couric lost her husband of nearly a decade, Jay Monahan, to a long and tragic battle with colon cancer in 1998. She remarried in 2014, but continues to fight to raise awareness for colon cancer.
3. Stanley Tucci
Stanley Tucci lost his wife of 14 years to breast cancer in 2009. He remarried two years later, but admitted in 2015 that he felt “guilty” and “horrible” about going on vacations with her at first.
4. Joan Rivers
Joan Rivers herself passed away in 2014 after complications from surgery. Her first husband committed suicide in 1987.
5. Martin Short
Martin Short was married to actress Nancy Dolma for 30 years. She died of ovarian cancer in 2010. He wrote lovingly about her in his 2014 memoir: “In our thirty-six years together we became so intimately familiar with the workings of each other’s minds that I can convincingly play out the conversations we would be having today.”
6. Pierce Brosnan
Pierce Brosnan’s first wife, Cassandra, died from a long and difficult battle with ovarian cancer in 1991: “To watch someone you love have his or her life eaten away bit by bit by this insidious disease, that kind of sorrow becomes an indelible part of your psyche.” The actor remarried in 2001 and has two sons with his second wife.
