Season six of Vanderpump Rules is filming now, but before we dive back into the endless drama at SUR, we’ll be invited to take a closer look at one of the show’s most amusing couples.
As you may have heard, a Jax Taylor-Brittany Cartwright spinoff is set to debut on Bravo next month, and sources close to production say things got unexpectedly dark on set.
What was supposed to be a lighthearted, fish-out-of-water reality sitcom (think Green Acres meets Jessica Simpson’s Newlyweds), apparently got real as a result of Jax and Brittany’s relationship issues.
Rumors about Taylor and Cartwright breaking up have been circulating pretty much from the time they first got together, and yet the couple has always persevered.
But insiders say Cartwright’s family has been putting constant pressure on Jax to propose, and the result has been a strain on their relationship that appears to have been the final straw.
The couple was able to stick out during their time filming at her family’s home in Kentucky, but reportedly only because Jax got Brittany’s concerned parents off his back with a series of empty promises.
“He said he wants to marry her, but he’s not ready,” a source close to the situation tells Radar Online.
The insider adds that Taylor and Cartwright returned to LA in “rocky territory” and effectively decided to call it quits shortly thereafter.
But since the split happened while Vanderpump wasn’t shooting, we may see Jax and Brittany reenact the last gasps of their relationship in front of the cameras.
“Brittany and Jax are being forced to work on their issues for the show from producers,” says the insider.
It’s unclear if that means producers want them to try and fix the relationship because it’s good for ratings, or if they simply want to capture the drama of the couple’s final days.
Either way, it seems that Jax and Brittany will soon replace Tom and Katie – or perhaps Kristen and … everyone she’s ever dated – as the show’s resident dysfunctional couple.
