For better, worse or the end of a reality TV show season?
That was the question posed on last night’s finale of Married at First Sight, as Anthony D’Amico and Ashley Petta; Cody Knapek and Danielle DeGroot; and Nate Duhon and Sheila Downs all sat down and had to decide if they wanted to stay hitched…
… or file for divorce from their partner.
Let’s start with Cody and Danielle, shall we?
The issue between these two, as always, boiled down to their sex life. Or their lack of any real action between the sheets.
Danielle expressed irritation to her friend Angie that Cody continually brought up the lack of a spark in their relationship, with Angie keeping it real and telling her pal that eight weeks is actually a pretty long time.
It may say something if Danielle is STILL uncomfortable just giving her husband a kiss or holding his hand.
“I’m going to hold on for as long as I can,” Cody told his own friend, adding that he didn’t know how much longer he could take it.
Later on, the couple exchanged a pair of gifts; a glassware set for Cody and a necklace for Danielle, which she adored.
When it came time to meet with the experts and decide their fate, with basically admitted that they didn’t have feelings of true love. HOWEVER…
“I’ve thought a lot about this,” Danielle said. “We aren’t in a perfect place. It’s been tough at times, [but] “I would like to stay married and keep working.”
Cody smiled upon hearing these words. He agreed. He even got a peck out of Danielle in the end.
“The main thing is that I want both of us to be happier people because we’re in the marriage,” Cody concluded.
What about Ashley and Anthony?
Unlike with Cody and Danielle, there didn’t initially appear to be much drama for these two heading into their meeting with the experts.
Ashley was in a great place, saying the main problem for the couple was “communication,” while Anthony believed their most significant challenge as Ashley’s lack of an open mind.
As for having kids within a year?
Anthony thought that was a crazy idea.
Did this impact Ashley’s decision? Nope! She wanted to stay married!
“Ashley, we’ve had a lot of ups and downs,” Anthony replied, building suspense and adding:
“I couldn’t think of anyone else I would rather spend the rest of my life with. I want to stay married to you. I’m usually not missing words, but right now I am.
“Ashley, I love you.”
Cue the kisses! And the tears! Even from Rachel DeAlto!
Et tu, Sheila and Nate?
Let’s get right to it with this couple:
“This experience was a huge leap of faith and the thing about taking a leap is that you don’t know where you will land,” Sheila said to Nate during their big meeting, concluding:
“I want to be your wife until the day I die.”
Did Nate feel the same way?
He took his wife’s hand in his and replied:
“Eight weeks have been amazing and today is decision day technically, but decision day was when I said, ‘I do.’
“I love you a lot, a lot a lot.”
To the camera, he said their first two months or so together “surpassed” his expectations and then vows to never stop trying with her.
Sheila could only break down in response.
“Crying is what I do,” she said. “You taught me what it means to be loved and you love me so purely and unconditionally and for that I will forever be grateful.”
And that’s a wrap!
Three couples, three happy endings!
Did any of these decisions surprise you?
