Alicia Vikander Cast as the New Lara Croft

Alicia Vikander is the new Angelina Jolie.

No, the gorgeous actress is not about to break up any marriages between former Friends cast members and Brad Pitt.

But she is about to take over a role partially made famous by the aforementioned star.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Vikander has landed the role of Lara Croft in a planned reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, giving the Swedish beauty yet another line in her ever-growing, impressive movie resume.

Vikander broke out in a big way last year.

She won the Academy Award for Best Supporting actress due to her role in The Danish Girl and she also blew viewers away as Eva in Ex Machina.

This summer, meanwhile, Vikander will appear opposite Matt Damon in the latest Jason Bourne movie.

Vikander’s upcoming turn as the badass British archaeologist will be the first version of the franchise since Jolie memorably graced the big screen in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in 2001.

She also starred in its sequel, Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, in 2003.

Here’s a look at Jolie in the role because… well… we don’t need to explain why, do we, fellas?

According to various outlets, the MGM and GK Films’ reboot will feature Vikander as a young Lara Croft, depicting the video game character on her very first adventure in a prequel to the other two blockbusters.

In her personal life, Vikander has been dating Michael Fassbender on and off for the past several months.

She allegedly beat out Daisy Ridley – who made a major splash on screen in the Star Wars: The Force Awakens late last year – for the role, although Variety writes that Vikander was always the first choice of producers.

She is yet to comment on the role, but we’ll go ahead and leave our thoughts:

THIS IS FRICKIN AWESOME AND WE CAN’T WAIT TO SEE ALICIA VIKANDER AS LARA CROFT.

Does anyone dare disagree?

We’ve outlined a few reasons why we feel this way below:
