Daft Punk, The Weeknd Grammy Performance Gets Futuristic

Everyone’s favorite robot musicians were back, with an assist from The Weeknd, at the 2017 Grammy Awards on Sunday night in L.A.

It"s not easy to follow an act like the show-opening Adele 2017 Grammy performance, but someone had to, and they were up to the task.

The French producing duo joined the R&B singer onstage to perform a mashup of their collaborations “I Feel It Coming” and “Starboy.”

Both appear on the latest Weeknd album, Starboy.

As you"d expect from the mysterious helmeted duo, the performance was complete with lasers, futuristic scenery and … sci-fi attire.

We didn"t see too many in our rundown of 2017 Grammy fashion from the red carpet, but we hear the cape is making a comeback.

For Daft Punk, it was their first performance was the duo’s first live performance since the 2014 Grammy Awards, a banner night for them.

That evening saw them take home both Album of the Year and Record of the Year for Random Access Memories and its hit, “Get Lucky.”

This year, the Weeknd took the place of Pharrell, and while Daft Punk was not among the "17 Grammy nominees, they stole the show.

After Paris Jackson introduced the performance, the duo emerged in robes along with the singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye.

There were a lot of lights.

There was a ton of fog.

And of course, there were Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, rocking their trademark robot space suits, on stage.

Despite the Grammy-dominating Random Access Memories, they did not tour to support that album, making this a rare live TV appearance.

As for The Weeknd, Starboy was released after the Grammy deadline, so he wasn"t up for any awards pertaining to that record either.

They were only there to entertain us, and while it may not get the buzz of Beyonce"s Grammy performance, they certainly did just that.
