Hairspray went live on NBC last night.
The latest small screen musical production starred Maddie Baillio, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, Harvey Fierstein, Martin Short, Kristin Chenoweth, Garrett Clayton, Dove Cameron and Derek Hough, among others.

Ariana Grande: Cast In Hairspray Live!
Ariana Grande is the latest celebrity to board NBC’s Hairspray Live.
The 23-year-old singer-actress took to Twitter to announce the news to her 39 million followers.
Her initial tweet certainly got her her fans intrigued.
“hi i have to tell you something very very exciting today.”
“Most of you know that i’m really just a musical theater geek…. like a really big one… so…. my heart is very full re: this announcement.”
She then let the cat out of the bag.
“I AM NOWWW A CHECKERBOARD CHICK #HairsprayLive #Penny.”
“Penny has been a dream role since Hairspray opened on Broadway. At 9, I was (and still am) in LOVE w @KerryButlerNyc. hope to make u proud,” Grande said.
She continued, “I’M GOING TO BE IN A SHOW WITH @HarveyFierstein AND @KChenoweth IS THIS AN ACTUAL JOKE ……………….” The star added, “Anyway… I’m so honored and beyond excited to be a part of this dream cast…… I will for sure pass out at the table read. #HairsprayLive.”
Ariana started in theater all the way back when she was just 9-years-old, so this is sure to be a very special time for the star.
Even though Grande is currently a very successful singer, she hasn’t let that come between her acting career.
She played one of the Chanels in a recurring role on Fox’s Scream Queens just last year.
Considering her character was killed off, she is not expected to return for the sophomore run of the show.
Hairspray Live is not at a loss for star power.
Jennifer Hudson and Derek Hough are just a few of the big names already attached to the project.
Hairspray Live premieres on NBC this December.
