LCD Soundsystem"s Gavin Russom Comes Out as Transgender
Gavin Russom has an announcement to make.
The LCD Soundsystem’s synth player and keyboardist came out as transgender in a new interview.
“Over the last year and a half, I went from my trans identity being something I was in touch with and worked through in one way or another, to suddenly this shift where it’s on the front burner,” Russom, 43, told Grindr.
“Now it’s time to become a whole person.”
The musician revealed that she was “on [her] way to coming out into transitioning” in her earlier years, but came up against “a lot of violence and harassment” and didn’t decided against it.
“Sometimes, if [people] happened to be walking behind me at enough distance where they would read me as feminine, they would catcall me,” she told the publication.
“Getting closer to me, they would see me as masculine and then become very angry. I was assaulted on a number of occasions.”
The artist then opened up about difficulties she faced in the past dealing with her transition.
“[They] led me into some self-destructive behaviors, particularly around addiction and substance abuse. In the past, it consistently clouded or interrupted my ability to get into the kind of relationship with myself I needed to.”
Added the rocker, “I had to really work on that stuff and get it out of the picture.
Ultimately, she took time out last year after touring and recording and found comfort in support groups in New York City.
“I feel a tremendous gratitude to know there are people out there — many of whom have much less of a degree of privilege than I do — who have been fearless enough to do the work,” she said.
“I think the most helpful thing was talking to people with different transgender experiences, especially those with upbringings, economic circumstances and ethnic backgrounds different than my own.”
“It allowed me to hear all these different perspectives and see the ways in which the trans experience is so varied and so individual.”
Russom is set to DJ for the first time as a trans woman at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago on Thursday, July 13.

Billie Lourd and Taylor Lautner Broke Up!
Billie Lourd went through what we hope will be the hardest experience of her life last December, and boyfriend Taylor Lautner was there by her side for that. Even as recently as May, the two still seemed joined at the hip, attending a Britney Spears concert together and posting about it.
But for over a month now, they’ve both seemed to ignore each other on social media, declining even to “like” each other’s photos. People noticed and wondered if something was up.
Well, it looks like this young, unspeakably beautiful couple has called it quits.
Billie Lourd is one of the stars of Ryan Murphy’s Scream Queens and she appeared in Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, but the world knows her best as Carrie Fisher’s daughter.
And, of course, as Debbie Reynolds’ granddaughter.
Fans knew who she was, but she became impossible to miss after Carrie Fisher’s tragic death.
That’s no insult to her budding career.
Taylor Lautner might not have such famous relatives, but he’s extremely well-known.
Mostly, even now, for his role in the Twilight series that made no shortage of grown women tweet all sorts of things before finding out that he was only 17 when New Moon came out.
The guy’s got abs for days.
Together, they were a lovely couple.
This is no longer just speculation based on who does and doesn’t double-tap photos on Instagram.
Billie Lourd and Taylor Lautner have broken up for realsies, according to People.
“They aren’t together anymore but they are still friendly,” their source says.
“She’s really focused on her work right now.”
That’s more than understandable.
We’re not going to make this about Carrie Fisher’s death and Billie throwing herself into her work to cope.
(Though that could be a factor)
Billie is only at the start of what could be a long and epic career, and she surely wants to be taken seriously as an actress.
But we really don’t know what brought about this split.
And though Billie Lourd included the term “Eiffel Tower” in the captions of this photo of herself with Taylor Lautner and John Stamos a while back … we don’t think that this breakup was caused by post-threesome fallout.

She might not even know that Eiffel Tower is a sex position … even though that level of naivete would be hard to imagine in anyone her age, especially Carrie Fisher’s daughter.
Whatever the cause, gone are the days when Billie Lourd appears to post about wanting a threesome with John Stamos.

But you know what?
We’re not going to fall into that trap of bemoaning a couple breaking up just because we got used to the idea of them as a couple.
They’re both young and talented and beautiful.
(Yes, even Taylor Lautner, who we swear wasn’t just hired for his almost comically perfect body … probably)
They have their whole lives ahead of them.
Billie and Taylor will always have their memories, but life usually involves a whole bunch of different lovers before you find your perfect match.
If you ever do.
We hope that they’re both doing okay, emotionally.
Breakups are hard.
And we especially hope for the best for Billie, because let’s not pretend that seven months is enough time to get over losing two of the most important people in your life.
Honestly, I’m still not over Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.
It’s impossible to imagine that she is.
But Billie Lourd is well-spoken and a skilled actress.
She’s amazing and she can do anything.
