Alice Eve Criticized For Transphobic Bruce Jenner Comments

In the wake of Bruce Jenner’s historic interview with Diane Sawyer, hundreds of celebrities have spoken out in support of the Olympian-turned-reality-star.

Naturally, there were some transphobic haters, but most of the criticism came from ignorant Twitter trolls who are easily ignored, as in most cases, their severely limited understanding of the English language makes it difficult to know what the hell they're even trying to say.

Unfortunately, even well-educated, media-trained, successful individuals have been known to stick their feet in their mouths, and the award for First Dumb Bruce Comment From a Celebrity goes to Australian actress Alice Eve.

Eve's not exactly an A-lister, and if you know her at all, it's probably from her semi-nude scene in Star Trek Into Darkness. Unfortunately, after today, most of the world will know her for her ill-advised comments on the topic of gender dysphoria.

"If you were a woman no one would have heard of you because women can't compete in the decathlon, Eve said, in an Instagram post addressing Jenner. "You would be a frustrated young athlete who wasn't given a chance.

"Until women are paid the same as men, then playing at being a 'woman' while retaining the benefits of being a man is unfair. Do you have a vagina? Are you paid less than men? Then, my friend, you are a woman."

Needless to say, Eve's remark that Bruce is "playing" at being a woman attracted a good deal of seriously harsh criticism.

She later deleted the original post and thanked commenters for "engaging with [her] on this subject."

Clearly, transgender individuals are a long way away from receiving the sort of empathy and acceptance they deserve, but hey, 17 million people watched Bruce's interview, and Alice Eve and Kris Jenner are the only celebs being dumbasses about it. We'd call that progress!
