The Voice Recap: It"s Back!

Who will be crowned the next winner of The Voice?

We may be getting a bit ahead of ourselves, but there were a string of solid singers who took to the stage on Monday night’s Season 13 premiere of the show.

The revised judging panel consisted of Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson, and they were ready to find the next winning voice.

Jennifer Hudson already proved she had what it took to be an awesome coach on The Voice: UK, so we’re glad she has taken up residence on the stateside panel.

Let’s run down the people who made it from the Blind Auditions to the Battles.

Chris Weaver – “Try a Little Tenderness

The coaches were taken with Chris from the very first note. It was clear Adam wanted to go in for the kill straight off the bat, and it’s hardly surprising.

Jennifer was the lucky coach who got to add Chris to her team.

Mitchell Lee – “Hold My Hand”

Mitchell has a great story to tell, and he also has a solid voice. However, there were parts that could have been better, but Blake decided he was worth taking the risk on.

Will it pay off? We sure hope so!

Janice Freeman – “Radioactive”

Here’s the thing: Janice comes off as a nice enough individual, but the song choice was atrocious. Thankfully, she managed to right the ship before it was too late and secured a spot with Team Miley.

Shi’Ann Jones – “Drown in My Own Tears”

Jennifer Hudson wasted no time in turning around for Shi’Ann, and we cannot blame her. The vocals from this kid were just outstanding. She’s most definitely one to watch this season.

Dave Crosby – “I Will Follow You Into the Dark”

Dave’s voice was just not cutting it, so it was a shock to see that coaches actually turned around when some better vocalists were let go. He joined Team Adam in the end.

Esera Tuaolo- “Rise Up”

Esara was the biggest surprise of the opening episode. He had the charm, charisma and everything he needed to become a star. His voice was in fine form, and his talent will be nurtured on Team Blake.

Brandon Showell – “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”

Brandon turned in a solid performance, but it was a bit all over the place because of his nerves. That’s something that will need to be rectified quickly to stay in the process. He joined Team Adam.

Lucas Holliday – “This Woman’s Work”

Lucas was once a viral sensation across the internet, and he proved in his first performance that it was no fluke. His performance was breathtaking, and it was quite the surprise. He joined team Jennifer.

Brooke Simpson – “Stone Cold”

Jennifer was very positive about Brooke, and it was because of her vocals. “I thought I knew singing,” said Jennifer, “until you just came out here and did that.” Yes, Jennifer snapped her up.

What do you think of the new season?
