12 of the Most Influential Celebrities on the Internet

Time magazine compiled its annual list of "The 30 Most Influential People on the Internet," and some of the names may surprise you (or throw you into a deep depression).

While the full list contains many self-made social media stars, a number of traditional celebrities made the list. However, what may be more shocking is who didn"t make the list (we imagine Kylie Jenner"s throwing a fit).

We"ve included some of the more recognizable names here for your scoffing pleasure.

1. Kanye West

One thing’s for certain, as infuriating as he might be, Kanye West has dominated Twitter during the first few months of 2016 with his insane rants and declarations of genius. We shudder to think he’s actually “influential,” but he’s definitely been commanding attention.

2. Kim Kardashian

No surprise here. With nearly 64 million followers on Instagram, Kim makes headlines with a single post. Her nude selfie earlier this month sparked an internet-wide debate over naked photos and slut-shaming.

3. Donald Trump

Donald Trump uses Twitter to campaign for the presidency by flinging immature insults at his political opponents – or anyone who isn’t totally Team Donald. Some have called him the Kanye West of politics.

4. Drake

With “Hotline Bling” topping the charts last year, Drake’s music video for the song inspired numerous parodies, memes and gifs that circulated around the interwebs. His public feud with Meek Mill also kept many eyes on his social media feeds.

5. Caitlyn Jenner

Caitlyn Jenner had all eyes on her when she publicly transitioned from male to female last year. When she joined Twitter, she racked up more than one million followers in less than four hours, beating President Obama’s record.

6. Joshua Holz and Daniel Lara

Damn, Daniel! Many folks just don’t understand how these high schoolers got famous on Snapchat for posting run-of-the-mill videos of a regular teen accompanied by the exclamation “Damn, Daniel.” Nevertheless, they are now an internet sensation and were featured on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. (Even Ellen herself didn’t make the list, so that’s saying something.)

Kylie and Kendall Jenner Land on Time"s List of Most Influential teens AGAIN!

Say what you will about Kylie and Kendall Jenner  – there’s no denying that for better or worse, the youngest Kardashian-Jenner siblings have had a tremendous amount of impact on an entire generation of young people.

So it’s not surprising that for the second year in a row, Kylie and Kendall have landed on Time’s list of the most influential teens, alongside such social media nobodies as Malala Yousafzai and Malia Obama, who, like, totally don’t even have Instagram pages.

“Everything I do, I always start these huge trends,” Kylie told Time. “I just want to inspire my fans to be whoever they want to be, because that’s what I’ve always done.”

It helps if whoever you want to be is someone with gigantic lips. That’s an easy ideal to achieve to when you’ve got Kylie’s cash.

In their profile of Kylie’s older sis, the magazine talked about how Kendall has the most-liked pic on Instagram, with an astonishing 3.1 million people tapping the heart on a single photo.

We’re not sure how that makes her influential exactly, but you know how obsessed teens are with popularity.

It remains to be seen what sort of lasting impact Kylie and Kendall will have on our culture or what they’ll do with their tremendous influence, but if the alarming success of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign has taught us anything, it’s that it no longer matters what you say, so long as a large enough audience likes to hear you say it.
