When does an adorable video of a toddler eating Nutella become a source for national controversy?
When that video gets posted to the Internet and people with no lives whatsoever decide they should pass judgment on its content.
On Sunday, Kelly Clarkson posted footage to Instagram of her two-year-old daughter, River Rose, taking her very first bite of Nutella.
How cute, right? How totally and completely harmless and precious and worth sharing, no?
”River’s first Nutella experience,” the original American Idol wrote as the caption to the video below, being sure to clarify:
“It should have been via crepe but toast was easier.”
Fair enough. Take a look at River’s perfect reaction to her initial taste of this sweet substance:
The little girl smiles and breaks into a happy dance and that’s really all one needs to say about the video.
We can all just move on with our lives and be grateful that Clarkson gave us this funny peek into hers, okay?
Nope, apparently that’s not okay; not when the Parenthood Police are out in first on the World Wide Web.
“There’s a lot of sugar in that,” one idiot Internet user wrote as a critique to River’s snack, whole another added:
“Nutella is hella bad for you.”
Based on these comments, you’d think Clarkson would have just penned a manifesto in which she decreed she would only feed her child Nutella.
Incredibly/depressingly, the comments got even more harsh from here.
“Make your own @kellyclarkson Nutella is PACKED with sugars don’t make your kids blow up too,” wrote a critic, managing to insult Clarkson as both a parent and an overweight person.
Another individual implored Clarkson to check the ingredients list and not feed such “poison” to her child, as reports suggest that palm oil (an ingredient in Nutella) can cause cancer.
The hazelnut spread maker, however, states that its product is safe because the industrial process involves controlled temperatures to minimize carcinogenic contaminants.
THIS IS ALSO ONE PIECE OF TOAST WITH SOME NUTELLA ON IT! PEOPLE NEED TO CALM THE EFF DOWN!!!!
“Yep. Start them out with cancer at an early age,” some huge loser wrote, while others echoed passed along the non-fact that “Nutella is cancerous u know” and pushed for Clarkson to “Stop eating Nutella” because “it’s been confirmed to give cancer.”
No, it hasn’t.
But that isn’t the point here.
The point is that a mother can’t even give her daughter a treat without the Internet reminding us why it’s such an awful place.
In addition to River Rose, Clarkson is mother to 11-month-old Remington and stepmother to Seth and Savannah, her husband Brandon Blackstock’s children from a previous marriage.
We think she’s doing a terrific job.
If random folks out there want to criticize strangers for how they are parenting, take a look at the photo gallery above.
And then go nuts, okay?
Just leave Kelly alone.
