Verne Troyer is Hopefully in a "Better Place," Mike Myers Says

Over the past few hours, many people who knew Verne Troyer well have reacted to the sad news of his passing.

As previously reported, Troyer died on Saturday at the age of 49.

The tragic development came mere days after many outlets also reported that Troyer had been hospitalized due to excessive drinking and what many believe had been a suicide attempt.

No cause of death had been revealed at the time of this writing.

Of all the tributes posted on Troyer’s honor, however, the most noteworthy and heartbreaking comes from Mike Myers.

The 54-year old co-starred with Troyer in the Austin Powers franchise, portraying Dr. Evil to Troyer’s Mini-Me. It was the role for which Troyer would forever be best known.

“Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him,” Myers said in a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly on Saturday.

He added:

“It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.

Troyer’s major acting break came in 1999 due to the role of Mini-Me in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

He reprised this role in the 2002 sequel, Austin Powers in Goldmember.

The actor had reportedly battled alcoholism for years and had checked into rehab on several occasions.

Alas, he never received the help he so badly needed.

Said Troyer’s family in a statement on Saturday afternoon:

“It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today. Verne was an extremely caring individual.

“He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible.”

On April 2, Troyer – who was born with achondroplasia dwarfism and listed at 2’8″ – was rushed to the hospital for a “reported poisoning.”

The Los Angeles City Fire Department confirmed to People Magazine that they were called to the actor’s North Hollywood home and that Troyer was “extremely upset, drunk and suicidal” at the scene.

We expect more to be revealed about his cause of death in the days ahead.

For now, a statement on Troyer’s Instagram page concludes as follows:

During this recent time of adversity he was baptized while surrounded by his family. The family appreciates that they have this time to grieve privately.

Depression and Suicide are very serious issues.

You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.

Over the past few years, Troyer became known for his appearances in reality television.

The troubled actor had stints on Celebrity Juice, Celebrity Wife Swap, and The Surreal Life.

May he rest in peace.

Leonard Myers Dies; Former New England Patriot Was 38

Sad news out of the sports world today, as former NFL cornerback Leonard Myers has passed away at the age of 38.

Reports of Myers’ death were confirmed by TMZ just moments ago.

Myers played his rookie season with the New England Patriots in 2001, the year that a young Tom Brady led the team to a Super Bowl victory over the St. Louis Rams.

Myers went on to play for the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets, and Detroit Lions, but he would never again experience the sort of on-field success he enjoyed in that first year in New England.

Myers experienced a string of bad luck after leaving football in 2005, following a brief sojourn in the CFL.

That same year, he made headlines for selling his Super Bowl ring on eBay for $ 32,600.

Myers had reportedly been battling cancer for several years at the time of his death.

Before being drafter by the Patriots, Myers made a name for himself at the Univesrity of Miami as the team’s standout defensive back.

A three-year starter for the Canes, Myers aided in the program’s historic rebound.

The team went 5-6 his freshman year and 11-1 his senior year.

Sadly, Myers would not experience the same level of success in the pros.

In interviews, he often expressed his frustration with the Patriots coaching staff, who decided at the last minute to deactivate him prior to Super Bowl XXXVI.

Myers says he was told he would start in the game, and it wasn’t until pregame warm-ups that Bill Belichick and company decided to remove him from the roster in favor of activating another offensive lineman.

Those who knew Myers best say his disappointment at not realizing his boyhood dream of being able to take the field at the Super Bowl lingered for the rest of his days.

Most recently, Myers worked as he wide receivers coach at New Mexico Highlands University in 2015.

Today, both Patriots and Hurricanes football fans are mourning Myers on social media.

Though he may not have distinguished himself in the highly competitive world of the NFL, fans and teammates say his spirit and cn-do attitude made him a player they’ll never forget.

Fort Myers Nightclub Shooting Leaves 2 Dead, Many Wounded

A shooting at a nightclub in Fort Myers, Florida has taken the lives of at least two people.

According to various news outlets, a minimum of 16 other patrons were wounded in the attack.

shooting report

The New York Times has confirmed that authorities responded to the incident at Club Blu around 12:30 a.m.

Once they arrived on the scene, police found several victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

The club was reportedly hosting a “swimsuit glow party” indoors with live performances on Sunday night when the tragedy took place.

“[At] this time, the scene is still very active as investigators and crime scene personnel attempt to determine what had occurred,” Captain Jim Mulligan of the Fort Myers Police Department said in a statement.

“The Police Department is attempting to determine a motive for this incident.”

About an hour after police cars and ambulances arrived at the club, many of those injured were taken Lee Memorial Health System for treatment.

The victims ranged from 12 to 27 years old because the party was actually aimed at a young demographic.

“Sixteen people were treated in the trauma center and emergency department,” Cheryl Garn, a hospital spokesperson, told the aforementioned newspaper.

more on shooting

Club Blu bills itself as a New Orleans-style restaurant and lounge, according to its Facebook page.

“We are deeply sorry for all involved. We tried to give the teens WHAT WE THOUGHT WAS A SAFE PLACE TO HAVE A GOOD TIME. Ages 12-17,” the establishment has said via statement.

“There was armed security as well as full security, inside and out.

“As the club was closing and parents were picking their children up…..that’s when all this took place. There was nothing more we could of done [as] you see it was not kids at the party that did this despicable act.”

Authorities have detained three adults in relation to the shooting.

However, the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

“It was chaos. I saw a bunch of people running across the street,” nearby resident Jermaine Wilson told CNN. “It’s incredible that this can happen at a teenage [event].”

This tragedy comes a mere six weeks after gunman Omar Seddique Mateen killed 49 people and injured 53 others at gay nightclub Pulse in Orland on Junoe 12.

The incident was the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.
