Verne Troyer Death Ruled Suicide by Alcohol Consumption

Verne Troyer committed suicide by drinking too much alcohol.

So states the official coroner’s report, which has come out about six months after the diminutive actor died at the age of 49.

On Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office closed its case on Troyer.

It did so by stating that the man best known for playing Mini-Me in the Austin Powers franchise died of “suicide” and the cause listed was “sequelae of alcohol intoxication.”

You don’t see that term or that cause of death listed very often.

(Sequelae translates to “a condition that is the consequence of a previous disease or injury.”)

When the 49-year-old was taken from his North Hollywood home to the hospital this spring, reports at the time indicated that he had three times the legal level of alcohol in his system.

The possiiblity that Troyer essentially drank himself to death on purpose was floated soon afterward by numerous sources and outlets.

But it had not been confirmed until now.

A year before he passed away, Troyer was also hospitalized for alcohol poisoning.

And, again, chatter that he was trying to kill himself at the time surfaced across the Internet.

Troyer even responded to this rumor in an Instagram post from April of 2017.

“I’ve been hearing from some concerned fans, so I’d like to address a very personal situation,” he wrote back then, adding:

“As you know, I’ve battled alcohol addiction in the past and while it’s not always been an easy fight, I’m willing to continue my fight day by day.

Troyer added that he planned to check himself into a treatment center to “get the help that I need.”

Concluded the actor in this April 2016 message:

“I want to thank everyone that’s reached out with their messages of support, it truly means the world to me. With your support, I got this.”

Tragically, just barely over a year later, he was dead.

“Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him,” Austin Power star Mike Myers said in a statement after his friend died.

He added this past April:

“It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.”

After this tragic event, Troyer’s family also released that referred to the small star as “an extremely caring individual” who “wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh.”

They said that for “anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible.”

Troyer was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital on April 3 with a blood alcohol content of more than three times the legal limit, according to this new official report.

The actor dialed 911 himself, repeatedly saying on the call and when he arrived to the emergency room that he wanted to die.

“Based on the history and circumstances as currently known, the manner of death is suicide,” Deputy Medical Examiner Martina Kennedy wrote in the coroner’s report this week.

Verne Troyer: Cause of Death Revealed?

On Saturday, news broke that accomplished actor Verne Troyer had tragically passed away.

The actor had faced serious health struggles since his meteoric rise to fame. He was even recently hospitalized.

Now, we know more. We may even know what finally claimed his life.

TMZ, who also broke the sad news of Verne’s passing, has details from when Verne was admitted to the hospital.

For one thing, Verne had three times the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he was admitted.

When he called 911 in distress, he apparently shared that he was suicidal at the time.

Upon arrival at the hospital, he was unresponsive. And his body functions when down from there as his organs began shutting down.

He was placed on life support and then, as we are all keenly aware, he died.

Though the autopsy has been completed, the toxicology report is still pending. These things take time, no matter how much loved ones — and fans — yearn for answers.

RadarOnline has learned a little more about Verne Troyer’s tragic passing.

They quote a statement from the spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, Ed Winter.

Winter says:

“His case was reported as a possible suicide and that he was admitted with a very high level of alcohol in his system.”

But even the medical examiner isn’t fully prepared to disclose the results.

Not until that toxicology report comes back.

“His case is deferred at this time pending additional tests.”

Like we said, these kinds of tests never come back within a few minutes like they do on crime dramas.

Verne’s family released a statement, saying:

“It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today.”

The news had broken, but this was confirmation for anyone still seeking it.

“Verne was an extremely caring individual. He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible.”

He was a source of joy for his fans.

“Verne hoped he made a positive change with the platform he had and worked towards spreading that message every day.”

If you’ve ever seen a photo of Verne with dogs (note that we included one in this photo), then he probably made your day at least a little better.

“He also touched more peoples hearts than he will ever know.”

That’s certainly true.

“Verne was also a fighter when it came to his own battles. Over the years he’s struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much.”

That is so heartbreaking. And his family hints at what led to his end.

“Depression and Suicide are very serious issues. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.”

They also have a request for grieving fans.

“In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in Verne’s name to either of his two favorite charities; The Starkey Hearing Foundation and Best Buddies.”

Just a couple of weeks before this tragic event, Verne Troyer was hospitalized.

Tragically, some people who struggle with substance abuse issues try to get help through detox programs … during which their bodies then reduce their tolerance for the substance (like alcohol).

This can lead to a person accidentally overdosing on alcohol on what was previously an amount that they could handle drinking.

Some fans had wondered if this is what had happened to Verne.

With the revelation that Verne told the 911 operator that he was suicidal and with what his family mentioned in their statement, it sounds like perhaps, at his lowest moment, Verne became a victim of suicide.

But let’s wait to know more about this terrible loss until there’s an official statement on the matter.

Verne Troyer is Hopefully in a "Better Place," Mike Myers Says

Over the past few hours, many people who knew Verne Troyer well have reacted to the sad news of his passing.

As previously reported, Troyer died on Saturday at the age of 49.

The tragic development came mere days after many outlets also reported that Troyer had been hospitalized due to excessive drinking and what many believe had been a suicide attempt.

No cause of death had been revealed at the time of this writing.

Of all the tributes posted on Troyer’s honor, however, the most noteworthy and heartbreaking comes from Mike Myers.

The 54-year old co-starred with Troyer in the Austin Powers franchise, portraying Dr. Evil to Troyer’s Mini-Me. It was the role for which Troyer would forever be best known.

“Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him,” Myers said in a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly on Saturday.

He added:

“It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed.

Troyer’s major acting break came in 1999 due to the role of Mini-Me in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

He reprised this role in the 2002 sequel, Austin Powers in Goldmember.

The actor had reportedly battled alcoholism for years and had checked into rehab on several occasions.

Alas, he never received the help he so badly needed.

Said Troyer’s family in a statement on Saturday afternoon:

“It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today. Verne was an extremely caring individual.

“He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible.”

On April 2, Troyer – who was born with achondroplasia dwarfism and listed at 2’8″ – was rushed to the hospital for a “reported poisoning.”

The Los Angeles City Fire Department confirmed to People Magazine that they were called to the actor’s North Hollywood home and that Troyer was “extremely upset, drunk and suicidal” at the scene.

We expect more to be revealed about his cause of death in the days ahead.

For now, a statement on Troyer’s Instagram page concludes as follows:

During this recent time of adversity he was baptized while surrounded by his family. The family appreciates that they have this time to grieve privately.

Depression and Suicide are very serious issues.

You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help.

Over the past few years, Troyer became known for his appearances in reality television.

The troubled actor had stints on Celebrity Juice, Celebrity Wife Swap, and The Surreal Life.

May he rest in peace.

Verne Troyer Dies; Beloved Austin Powers Actor Was 49

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as multiple media outlets have now confirmed that actor Verne Troyer has passed away.

He was just 49 years old.

Troyer’s cause of his death is unknown at this time.

Best known for his role as Mini-Me in the Austin Powers series of films, Troyer suffered a number of personal setbacks in the wake of his meteoric rise to fame.

Earlier this month, Troyer was hospitalized after police were told that he was drunk and exhibiting suicidal behavior.

Doctors reportedly treated him for alcohol poisoning upon his arrival.

There’s no word yet on whether Troyer’s death was in any way tied to his most recent struggles.

Beginning his career as a stunt double in the 1994 film Baby’s Day Out, Troyer eventually amassed almost 60 film and television credits over the course of his decades in Hollywood.

But it was his role in 1999’s Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged for which the actor will best be remembered.

Hamming it up as a diminutive clone of Mike Meyers’ Dr. Evil, Troyer became a fan favorite and an overnight sensation.

Troyer went on to work with Meyers on two additional films, including Austin Powers in Goldmember, and he even made a brief cameo in the first Harry Potter film.

Sadly, the 2000s saw a steep decline in both the actor’s career and personal life.

He continued to find work in Hollywood, but now it was mostly bit parts in small-budget comedies and degrading appearances on reality TV shows.

In 2015, Troyer married actress Brittney Powell, with whom he appeared on an episode of ABC’s Celebrity Wife Swap.

Troyer also appeared on such short-lived reality shows as Celebrity Juice and The Surreal Life.

Born with a condition known as achondroplasia dwarfism, Troyer says he was never treated differently as a child, but later revealed that his condition had often made his adult life tremendously difficult.

He is survived by Powell and a stepson named Tyson.

Our thoughts go out to Troyer’s family and friends at this difficult time.

Verne Troyer Hospitalized for Suicidal Behavior, Alcohol Poisoning

Verne Troyer is an actor, stunt performer, and a comedian. Also, he once filmed a guy getting tasered at the airport. He’s a treat to follow on social media.

Unfortunately, he’s now been placed in an involuntary psychiatric hold after his loved ones worried that he might take his own life.

His team has released a statement.

TMZ reports that, on Monday night, police rushed to Verne Troyer’s home upon learning that the actor was allegedly suicidal.

The actor and comedian, who is known for many roles but is perhaps most recognizable for having portrayed Mini Me in Austin Powers, was reportedly also extremely upset and drunk.

His friends were concerned, and placed a call to police at 7:30 in the evening.

Troyer was taken the hospital for possible alcohol poisoning, and is under a 72-hour observation.

His team posted a message on Instagram.

Verne Troyer Message April 2018

They know that many fans keep up with the news and would eventually see the report about Troyer.

“Asking you to keep Verne in your thoughts and prayers.”

Of course.

“He’s getting the best care possible and is resting comfortably.”

That is very good to hear. This is a frightening situation.

“Appreciate the support from family, friends, and fans around the world.”

And they say that they’ll tell people more once they know more.

“We will keep you updated here.”

Sadly, as fans of Verne Troyer are all too aware, this is not the first time that he has had difficulties with his health.

It was almost exactly one year ago — on April 6th, 2017 — when he shared a grim message about his struggles with alcohol.

“I’ve been hearing from some concerned fans,” he wrote on Instagram. “So I’d like to address a very personal situation.”

And he is aware that fans are familiar with his history.

“As you know, I’ve battled alcohol addiction in the past.”

Verne Troyer Message April 2017

“While it’s not always been an easy fight, I’m willing to continue my fight day by day.”

That’s good. A willingness to wrestle with your own inner demons is a sure sign that there’s hope for your recovery.

“I’ve been receiving treatment for the last week and I am voluntarily checking into a treatment center later this week to continue to get the help that I need.”

It’s so good that he’s taking the necessary steps. Also kind of him to update his fans and followers.

“I want to thank everyone that’s reached out with their messages of support.”

Widespread support can mean a lot, even to a celebrity.

“It truly means the world to me.”

“With your support, I got this,” he concluded.

Unfortunately, not quite a year later, it sounds like he’s suffered a serious relapse.

We all wish Verne Troyer a speedy recovery — but we hope that he’s able to take the steps that he needs to make this recovery last, no matter how long it might take.

He is 49 years old, and we hope that he’s around for many more years. For his fans, but also for himself and his loved ones.
