Sonny James Does; Country Music Legend Was 87
Sonny James, a legend in the world of country music, passed away on Monday at a hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.
He was 87 years old.
According a statement on the artist’s official website, the first country singer to earn a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame died from natural causes while surrounded by family members and friends.
James was member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
He was famously known as the “Southern Gentleman” around the music industry, earning iconic status in this world by garnering an incredible 26 chart-topping hit singles.
The singer still holds the record for having the most consecutive number-one songs by any artist in any musical genre.
“Throughout his life he has stood always at the ready to share a funny story,” wrote Sonny’s family in a statement after his death.
They added:
“Accompanied by his boyish smile, this man of deep faith never failed to cultivate his unique gift of making every friend feel as if they were his greatest friend every step of the way. With immense admiration we say thanks to this dear and beloved friend to so many.
“No words exist to express our loss and sorrow at this time.”
