Mary Lambert Admits to Suicide Attempt, Gang Rape

Mary Lambert has opened up to Cosmopolitan about the most personal subjects possible.

In an emotional interview with the publication, the singer and spoken-word artist runs through a “laundry list” of trauma that explains why she tried to kill herself as a teenager.

The 28-year-old is likely best known to music fans for her single “Secrets” and also for her featured verse on Macklemore & Ryan Lewis‘ LGBTQ anthem “Same Love.”

And she reveals to Cosmo that music helped turn her life around after an unimaginable series of events that affected her as a child growing up in Washington state.

“Music is beautiful and cathartic but there is something very healing about saying exactly what happened to you and speaking your truth,” Lambert says in the video below, adding:

“I’m still in my own journey of body love and self-love.”

This journey tragically started with the heinous betrayal of a parent.

“I was molested by my father at a really young age,” the singer says.

The ordeal confused Lambert as she struggled to fully understand what had been done to her, what it meant and how she could move forward.

“You don’t know what’s happening, especially when you’re raised in that environment and your brain is forming,” she explains. “There’s no sense of what normal is.”

This is the sort of statement to which we’re guessing nearly all victims of molestation can relate.

As she grew older, Lambert suffered through signs of a then-undiagnosed bipolar disorder, once again unsure how to react to her surroundings and situation.

“I was really living in extremes. I would have the best day ever and then I would come home and I would want to die,” she says.

Horribly, the abuse at the hands of her father would not be the only time Lambert was a victim of sexual assault.

“When I was 16, I snuck into an Army barracks and I was gang-raped,” Lambert says, expounding on how she endured this pain with a traumatized detachment as a result of her past.

“You go into survival mode and go, ‘OK, how do I navigate this situation."”

About a year later, she came out as a lesbian to her evangelical Christian church. She did not receive a positive response from those around her at the time.

By age 18, she had tried to kill herself.

“Everything hurt so much,” Lambert says of the time, adding:

“The fact that I was abused by my dad. Was raped. Was gay. Was bipolar. Not to mention always being a big girl in the world.

“Just existing in those spaces, of like, I don’t feel at home in my body, I don’t feel at home in this world. What options do I have left?”

Fortunately, Lambert failed – and she also fell involve with music, which she describes now as a “form of healing, almost like self-therapy.”

“I’m so glad I didn’t die – I’m so glad that I’m alive, that I didn’t give in – but it wasn’t easy,” Lambert concludes.

“I feel like there is this canned way we talk about trauma, this canned way we talk about suicide. Like, you just go to Spain and you eat tapas – there’s your healing.

“Real healing is s—ty. It’s dirty and ugly and not easy.”

Thankfully, though, Lambert has come out the other side of this very hard process.

And she’s developed a mantra to guide her through the challenging times.

“It all works out in the end, and if it hasn’t worked out then it’s not the end.”

Amy Schumer and Ben Hanisch: It"s Shockingly Over!

Amy Schumer likes to joke about sex.

But there’s nothing funny about the following piece of news regarding her sex life:

The comedian has split from long-time boyfriend Ben Hanisch.

A rep for the actress confirmed the break-up to People Magazine, saying in a very simply statement:

“Amy and Ben have ended their relationship after thoughtful consideration and remain friends.”

Schumer and the Chicago furniture maker had been an item for about a year-and-a-half, although they hadn’t made any public appearances together since January.

Moreover, Schumer hasn’t shared a photo of Hanisch on her Instagram page for several weeks.

Hanisch did not accompany Schumer to the premiere of her latest comedy, Snatched, either.

So an observant fan of the star’s may have seen this split coming.

It’s unclear just when Schumer and her very handsome ex-lover went their separate ways, but the actress told Howard Stern in May 3 interview that they were still getting it on.

She was even asked about the possibility of marriage and responded as follows:

“We are talking about today. I love the idea of committing to someone and making that choice and I want to have a family but right now, we are not in talks.”

Schumer acknowledged at the time that her busy schedule made it difficult to spend a ton of time together as a couple, but tried to spin that situation in a positive way.

“It’s good to have a lot of space,” she told the radio host just two weeks ago.

The comedian and Hanisch met on a dating app around November 2015.

They went public with their relationship in January of the following year when Schumer called Hanisch her “man” after a visit to the White House.

“[He] is the first guy who’s really been my boyfriend,” Schumer went on to tell Marie Claire in August.

She was clearly excited about the relationship for a long time, often discussing it in public and even using the word “love” very often while doing so.

“Things were just really easy with him,” Schumer told People Magazine last summer, adding:

“There were no games, no waiting three days. It was clear and easy. He was so sweet. He didn’t know who I was. He’d heard my name.”

The star also shared at least one story of giving Hanisch a blow job because, come on, this is Amy Schumer.

On their year anniversary last November, both Schumer and Hanisch took to social media to celebrate the occasion.

“We both weren’t looking for a relationship at the time, but something felt right from the very first night we met,” Hanisch wrote on Instagram, adding:

“We both weren’t looking for a relationship at the time, but something felt right from the very first night we met. We ended up spending 6 days in a row together.”

Schumer, meanwhile, went a step further in her Instagram message.

“A year ago today I met the love of my life. Happy anniversary f— face,” she wrote, adding: “#Iwantoseeotherpeople.”

It was a funny joke at the time.

But it’s the painful truth now.

Both Schumer and Hanisch are free to see other people.

The Voice Results: Who Survived the Bloodbath?

Monday night, The Voice top eight performances showed America everything the remaining contenders have left in the tank on NBC.

Only four would survive … making this the mother of all results shows. So who would outlast the rest and who would fall by the wayside?

In The Voice’s ever-changing, never-uninteresting format:

Three artists of the final eight automatically advanced to the finale, while the bottom two were eliminated right off the bat Tuesday night.

That left the remaining three artists had to battle it out for the instant save, so in that way it ended on the same note as previous weeks.

The first artist to advance to the Season 12 finale, as per The Voice results unveiled last night, was … Team Alicia’s Chris Blue!

Chris secured his second consecutive four-coach standing ovation the previous night, so that was hardly a surprise, or a fluke.

Next up and on her way to the final episode of the season was Team Blake’s Lauren Duski. A job very well done by the singer.

Carson Daly then announced the results that sent a third artist straight through to next week … Team Blake’s Aliyah Moulden.

And then there were six … after Team Blake’s TSoul and Team Alicia’s Vanessa Ferguson were both eliminated just like that.

That left the fans with the following three:

1. Team Adam’s Jesse Larson

2. Team Gwen’s Hunter Plake

3. Team Gwen’s Brennley Brown

Three singers, one spot and one song.

Brown performed Demi Lovato’s ‘Warrior,” putting her own stamp on it and showcasing the range of talent that got her to this point.

Plake performed “Love Runs Out” by OneRepublic, with some creativity that many felt was lacking from his performance Monday.

Larson performed “Tennessee Whiskey” by Chris Stapleton, and his impressive vocals were enough to earn those coveted tweets.

Jesse advanced to the finale, keeping Team Adam’s hopes alive and eliminating Team Gwen in one fell swoop. So the field is set.

The top four artists will compete in next week’s The Voice finale. What did you think of The Voice results? Did America get it right?

Joe Alwyn: Oh, Yes, He"s Dating Taylor Swift!

Taylor Swift has been out of the spotlight for several months.

And we may now know why:

The singer is in love! Again! Maybe!

According to numerous celebrity gossip outlets, Swift is dating a British film and theater actor named Joe Alwyn.

The Sun was the first newspaper or magazine to report this news… and it has us SO excited!

Swift is allegedly renting a home in North London in order to be close to her new man, while a source tells the U.K. publication that Taylor is taking extreme measures to go unnoticed while spending time with Alwyn.

She supposedly uses wigs and other disguises to go unnoticed while hanging out with Alwyn overseas.

E! News even writes that Swift is making a “military-like” effort to keep this relationship on the Down Low, which would mean she’s learned a lesson or two from her past failures with the opposite sex.

The singer, of course, has often been criticized for flaunting romances with such fellow celebrities as Calvin Harris and Tom Hiddleston.

In a recent interview, Harry Styles didn’t seem too excited to talk about Swift, either.

The suddenly elusive artist has scarcely been heard from since last summer, taking a hiatus from the spotlight after Kim Kardashian exposed Taylor as a liar by playing for the world a phone conversation she had with Kanye West.

In the damning conversation, Swift and West talked about the rapper’s track “Famous,” proof that Taylor actually was aware Kanye planned to slam her in one of the song’s verses.

She had previously played ignorant and annoyed when asked about the single.

However, Swift did resurface over Mother’s Day weekend, marking the first time photographers snapped her since January.

The superstar spent the holiday in Nashville, Tennessee at her mom Andrea Swift’s residence, not long after she also made her return to Instagram.

As for Joe Alwyn? We don’t know how the two met.

But one insider says the following to The Sun:

“Taylor and Joe are the real deal, this is a very serious relationship. But after what happened with Tom Hiddleston, they were determined to keep it quiet.”

As for who Joe Alwyn actually is?!?

Allow us to rundown some facts about the 26-year old:

He lives with his parents.

He made his feature film debut opposite Kristen Stewart, Vin Diesel, Garret Hedlund and Steve Martin in 2016’s Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk.

He recently wrapped production on upcoming flick, The Favourite, and will star as Emma Stone’s love interest.

He loves… The Twilight Saga?!?

“I’ve seen one of them twice,” Alwyn admitted of the vampire film franchise while doing press with Stewart for the aforementioned movie.

Alwyn also studied at the National Youth Theatre in London until moving on to study drama at the University of Bristol.

“I went to university and I read English and Drama there and I did as much stuff beyond the course as I could,” he once said in an interview, adding:

“At the end of the three years, I applied to drama school and I got into one in London and I was there for three years until last year. I left early last year when I got [my first role].”

Alwyn’s father is a documentary filmmaker and both his parents have influenced his passion for acting.

“I’ve always grown up with [my father] showing me films and I’ve always loved going to the cinema,” he told People Magazine last year.

“And my mum had taken me to the theater a lot, so I always wanted to be a part of that world in some way but didn’t quite know how or how to go about it.”

Oh, and one more fact about Joe Alwyn:

He will soon be the subject of a Taylor Swift breakup song.

We’re going out on a limb with this one.

But not a very fragile limb, we don’t think.
