When Empire manages to bring the family together to go through their many issues, it almost always results in some huge reveals.
That was the case on Empire Season 3 Episode 8 and it helped the series turn in an episode that was up there as one of the best of the series.
With Cookie continuing to try and sway Angelo’s mother to her corner, she decided to press on with bolstering Tiana’s reputation. This involved her finally getting what she wanted and singing some songs that she liked as an artist.
However, Andre and Nessa were not far behind them and it quickly emerged that Andre would go to any lengths in order to make his girlfriend happy.
The pair got to work screwing Tiana over by tarnishing her reputation and blackmailing to get Nessa to where she wanted to be. If there was ever any indication that Andre was turning into his father, tonight was the night that showcased it the best.
He went too far. Cutting a young girl’s hair to show her mother he meant business was completely out of order. It was pretty similar to the scene in Empire Season 2 when Lucious did terrible things to all of the board members to secure their votes.
When it was all said and done, Nessa got her time to shine in the limelight, and I’m sorry to say that she turned in a more engaging performance than Tiana ever could have. Tiana’s attitude has always been an issue for me.
She seems to think everything should just fall at her feet, so it was refreshing that Nessa was the better option. This, however rattled Cookie as she realized Andre was not working for her, but against her.
When the Lyons came together to hash out their issues, Lucious dropped the bomb that Cookie was the one who put the hit out on Frank Gathers. This was met with shock from the sons because they didn’t think Cookie could be so treacherous.
If you watch Empire online, you probably already know that Cookie did the deed in order to save her family who were in peril from a multitude of villains.
It should be interesting to see how this affects Jamal’s relationship with Cookie considering her action set off the chain of events that led to him being shot.
That’s also the reason he is suffering from PTSD. Heck, he’s even trying virtual reality to get better. He has a long, tough road ahead of him and I’m not so sure he’s going to be able to forgive his mother in an instant.
Elsewhere, Tariq the freak continued to try and get the goods on Lucious in order to have him arrested. His new ally? Leah Walker.
Leah has been pretty much MIA all season long, so it was great that she actually got some screen time this evening. Tariq seemed to think she was about to dish all the goodies on Lucious, but instead, she threw him right off the scent of her son.
She then returned to the mansion and trashed Lucious and Anika for getting hot and heavy on the dining table, before having a heart-to-heart with Lucious.
It was a great twist and it showed us that maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel for the mother and son.
