Tyler Baltierra has a lot on his plate lately.
Which, in this instance, is a nice way of saying that his life is kind of a tragic, upsetting mess right now.
On Friday, his wife, Catelynn Lowell, revealed that she’d be going off to rehab for a while after suffering from some suicidal thoughts.
She said that she spent much of Friday imagining various ways to kill herself before making the decision to get help, and on Saturday morning, Tyler tweeted that he’d dropped her off at a treatment center.
It’s obviously been a very emotional time for them — and for us, too, since they’ve been sharing so much with us.
“We haven’t held each other & just cried like that for a long time,” Tyler wrote after leaving Catelynn’s rehab. “Even after 12 years, I continue to be AMAZED by her strength, vulnerability, & courage to get help.”
He even quoted his own wedding vows, the part where he told her “As long as I am alive, you will never be alone,” and he called those words his “call to arms,” and said that he “will fight this war with her right by my side.”
“We will not surrender to this… I will go to battle EVERY TIME for her!”
It’s all very touching, right?
It’s a shame Tyler went and made himself look a fool immediately afterwards.
See, Catelynn decided to return to the treatment center that helped her out last time, the one out in Arizona. So it was a bit of a journey for Tyler to drop her off.
They apparently left their daughter, Nova, in Michigan, and very understandably so, because Tyler spent Saturday exploring a bit of the city — we know that because he documented it all on Snapchat.
That night, he ended up seeing some band play at a bar, and he got a little intoxicated.
In the video below, you can see drunk Tyler:
“All I know is that I’m f-cked up as f-ck right now,” he says. “You gotta see the crowd, n—a.”
Yep. Tyler said the N-word. On Snapchat. While wasted. After dropping his wife off at rehab to deal with suicidal thoughts.
It’s bad. Real bad.
The Grace Report, a popular Teen Mom blogger, saw the video and tweeted “Wonder if/when @TylerBaltierra will bring that trifling ass over here to explain.”
He did try to explain it by tweeting back that he is “a complete inconsiderate prick who made a mistake while attempting to take a mental break after dealing with everything.”
“I deserve any hate you all give me, so lay it on me.”
It’s nice that he admitted he did something wrong — he could have easily responded with “other people say that word, why can’t I?!”, so let’s be thankful he’s not quite that dumb.
But the fact remains that he used a racial slur, and his wife’s mental state doesn’t excuse that. At all.
Grace called him out for “playing the victim” in his response, and he said “Oh god no! Absolutely not playing the victim at all or making excuses.”
“I was drunk trying to blow off some steam after a very emotional week & I deserve any hate you throw at me, honestly. I own my mistakes.”
Grace went after him again for “trying to manipulate the issue & victimize yourself,” which is a pretty accurate assessment. He’s definitely trying to avoid a huge scandal by making himself seem pitiful.
“I’m definitely not trying to manipulate the issue at all,” Tyler insisted. “What I said was wrong, period! And I sincerely apologize for it.”
“Like I said before, I am aware & deserve all the backlash/hate/opinions or however you would like to describe it as, that comes my way.”
What do you think — should he be forgiven?
