Back in June, Sofia Richie and Scott Disick broke up after roughly a year of dating.
The news didn’t really shock anyone, as no one expected this couple to last.
But to the surprise of many, Scott and Sofia got back together after just a few weeks apart.
Even more unexpected is the fact that two months later, Disick and Richie are still going strong.
It’s not just the 15-year age difference that made these two seem like such a longshot.
At the time they got together, Disick was in the throes of a bender that threatened to claim his life.
Many feared that he was turning to Sofia to be his savior.
That would be a lot of pressure for any new relationship, and considering Richie was still in her teens at the time, it was widely assumed that she would quickly decide she wasn’t up to the task.
Instead, two very unexpected developments occurred:
Sofia and Scott toughed it out through those shaky early days, and Scott made good on his promise to tone down his erratic behavior.
These days, as much as Sofia’s family might prefer otherwise, she and Scott are still going strong.
In fact, for the first time in their relationship, Sofia is speaking publicly about what makes this odd pairing work.
It seems she credits the (relative) longevity of her relationship with Scott to the fact that the 35-year-old father of three is her best friend first, and her boyfriend second:
“We are very happy, very lovey-dovey,” Sofia told Australia’s Sydney Morning Herald this week.
“We are best friends and that is mainly the strongest connection we have,” she added.
“We have always had that best friend connection and from there it has really worked out. I am so happy.”
So there you have it.
Obviously, Scott and Sofia have endured their share of rough patches, but it seems she’s endlessly optimistic about their future together.
Which is good because these two might have more tough times on the way.
As you may already know Kourtney Kardashian is newly single these days, having recently broken up with Younes Bendjima.
Sources close to the situation say Sofia has warned Kourtney to stay away from Scott, but anyone who knows Disick knows that he’s hopelessly drawn to his ex.
Perhaps interviews like this one are Sofia’s way of firing a warning shot over Kourtney’s head.
