Montrell Jackson: Slain Baton Rouge Cop Posts Emotional Message Prior To Shootings

He was a ten-year veteran on the police force, and just welcomed a baby boy.

Montrell Jackson, 32, was one of the three officers killed in a July 18th Baton Rouge shooting.

Jackson’s former colleague Marcus Tillman told NBC News that he had spoken to Jackson after the shooting of Alton Sterling earlier this month.

Jackson was so distraught over the ordeal that he took to his Facebook page to vent.

“I swear to God I love this city but I wonder if this city loves me,” he wrote.

“In uniform I get nasty hateful looks and out of uniform some consider me a threat. I’ve experienced so much in my short life and these last 3 days have tested me to the core.

“When people you know begin to question your integrity you realize they don’t really know you at all. Look at my actions they speak LOUD and CLEAR.

“Finally I personally want to send prayers out to everyone directly affected by this tragedy. These are trying times. Please don’t let hate infect your heart.

“This city MUST and WILL get better. I’m working in these streets so any protesters, officers, friends, family, or whoever, if you see me and need a hug or want to say a prayer. I got you.”

Every single person who was interviewed by a media outlet had only positive things to say about Jackson.

Jackson’s next door neighbor, Kristi Vick Godal described him as a “big man” but a gentle one.  He also served as their neighborhood’s homeowner’s association president.

“We’ve all just been devastated,” Godal said. “An extremely special human being was stolen from the earth.”

The two other victims, Matthew Gerald, 41, and Brad Garafola, 45 were also fathers.

The suspect, Gavin Long of Kansas City, Missouri, was shot dead by police.

Baton Rouge Shooting: 3 Cops Dead, 3 Other Officers Wounded

Tragedy has once again struck Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

A trio of police officers are dead and a handful more injured after a gunman opened fire at a shopping center in the southern city, according to the Baton Rouge mayor’s office and many other outlets.

CNN confirms that cops have shot one suspect, but an investigation is underway to determine whether others were involved.

“This is still an active scene,” Kip Holden, the mayor of East Baton Rouge Parish, told network, adding:

“They are investigating. Right now we are trying to get our arms around everything. It’s just been one thing after another.”

Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola says three officers are injured, though it’s unknown at this time whether those injuries are life-threatening.

The shooting took place around 9 a.m.

Sunday’s horrific event took place fewer than two weeks after the shooting death of Alton Sterling.

The 37-year-old father was killed by Baton Rouge cops outside a store where he was selling homemade CDs and DVDs.

As depicted above, Sterling’s death was captured on video, with the clip stirring up feelings of outrage and sadness around the country and Internet.

In the disturbing piece of footage, Sterling is tackled to the ground by two officers and later held down while one of these officers shoots him multiple times, killing him on the spot.

Just one day later, 32-year-old Philando Castile was pulled over for a seemingly routine traffic stop in Falcon Heights, Minnesota.

However, he was also shot and killed in the car while his girlfriend filmed the tragedy on camera; the couple’s young daughter sat in the backseat.

These controversial deaths were followed by a shooting in Dallas last week that left five police officers dead and seven officers and two civilians wounded.

It took place on Thursday, July 7 at a gathering of Black Lives Matter protesters.

The victims in today’s awful case were from Baton Rouge Police Department, as well as East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.

“This is an unspeakable and unjustified attack on all of us at a time when we need unity and healing,” Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards says.
