Justin Timberlake Halftime Performance: Grade It!

Justin Timberlake rocked our bodies, cried us a river and made sure the feelings didn"t stop at halftime of Super Bowl 52.

The beloved pop star was the featured act at the mid-point of the game between the Patriots and Eagles on Sunday night, as he was introduced by good friend Jimmy Fallon and started his act underneath the field.

"Haters gonna say it"s fake," he then said many times, starting his performance with a brief rendition of "Filthy."

From there, Timberlake danced his way on to the field, rocking a red handkerchief around his neck that became the talk of Twitter.

He sang "Rock Your Body." He broke into "SexyBack." He sampled "Gone." He played all the hits, basically.

Then, at one point, he sat at a piano and covered Prince, who tragically passed away last year from a drug overdose and who made his home in Minnesota.

(The Super Bowl was played in Minnesota, it"s worth noting.)

"Minneapolis, this one"s for you," he said, prior to a few images of Prince being projected on a giant screen.

Impressively, lights across Minnesota then lit up in Prince"s trademark color of purple. It was pretty cool.

The performance culminated in a rendition of "Rock Your Body," which found Timberlake jumping into the crowd and telling a young fan to snap a selfie of him and the superstar.

Overall, there was a whole lot of dancing, which is what Timberlake does as well as anyone, of course.

The sound was off nearly throughout the entire act, but it"s possible this was even done on purpose… lest millions of viewers hear Timberlake wheezing for 20 minutes after essentially running a 5K or so.

There was no Janet Jackson, as had been rumored.

Much to the chagrin of NSync fans everywhere, Timberlake’s halftime show did not include a reunion with his former bandmates, either.

We didn"t see Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, Lance Bass or JC Chasez.

How did JT stack up against Beyonce, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and past halftime acts?

Pink Sings National Anthem: Grade It!

Super Bowl 52 pitted the New England Patriots against the Philadelphia Eagles.

But music fans went into Sunday night less focused on the battle on the field and more focused on the battle within Pink"s immune system.

That"s because the beloved singer fell ill the week prior to the biggest performance of her life, taking to midfield prior to the big game in order to belt out the Star-Spangled Banner.

It was unclear at times whether Pink would even be able to go through with the performance.

But go through with it she did, alright!

The Grammy-winner didn"t ascend into the air, as she so often does while singing a song in front of a major audience.

Instead, she donned star-shaped earrings, a silver outfit and did the country"s theme song proud.

Odds in Las Vegas set the over/under on the time of Pink"s rendition at two minutes, with many assuming she would be unable to last that long due to the aforementioned sickness.

"Ummm. I’m singing the national anthem and the EAGLES ARE PLAYING?!?!?! IS THIS FOR REAL?!?!?!THATS WHASSUP!!!!!!!!" Tweeted the Philadelphia fan prior to the game, hilariously adding:

"Shtjtkd widnamc ckamcnsnzncbx!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wooohooooooooooooioooooooooooooooooooooooooiiiiiiooooooooooo."

So… how did she do?

How did this national anthem stack up to past Super Bowl performances?

Lady Gaga Halftime Performance: GRADE IT!

She didn’t wear a meat dress.

But Lady Gaga still made quite the statement during halftime of Super Bowl LI on Sunday night.

She performed all 13 minutes of her act solo, dedicating the show to “love, diversity and compassion,” based on a Tweet the artist sent not long before taking the field:

gaga tweets

But… wait! She didn’t actually take the field.

At least not at the outset of her performance.

We opened with Gaga standing on top of the NRG Stadium’s roof, singing a few verses of“God Bless America” and “This Land is Your Land.”

She then recited the Pledge of Allegiance prior to dropping down off the roof and on to the field while suspended by wires in mid-air.

It was quite the spectacle (and, really, quite the advertisement for whichever company made those cables.)

Gaga was then lowered to the stage for a gravity-defying performance of “Poker Face,” flipping and turning in the air while singing.

(Yes, singing. Gaga most definitely did not lip-synch.)

From there, it was on to a smoke-and-lights rendition of “Born This Way,” with a bevy of backup dancers supporting the artist, who was front and center and doing her talented thing

Viewers were also treated to a rendition of “Telephone,” which led into another classic Gaga jam, “Just Dance,” along with the emotional “Million Reasons.”

The latter song included Gaga just sitting at a piano and giving a shout-out at one point to her mom and dad.

She also asked America how it was doing (HA! What a loaded question!) and said she was on hand to make us feel “good.”

To close out the impressive performance, which was very well received on Twitter, the star ditched her sparkle-laden outfit for a white football-inspired look, putting a unique and sexy twist on the concept of a shoulder pad.

This look complemented a full-length version of the singer’s massive 2009 hit “Bad Romance.”

While she belted out the lyrics, Gaga was flanked by dozens of dancers and massive stage explosives, bringing the show to a frenzied peak.

Oh, and she ended things by hurling her microphone to the ground… catching a football… and leaping off the bleachers.

Never one to be shy about speaking her mind, Gaga told a Las Vegas radio show last week that she did not plan on making a pointed political references on stage.

We knew going in that she would not bring up Donald Trump or any of his policies.

“No, that’s not what the show is about,” she said, explaining:

“The show is something that is coming from my heart to everyone in America that I love so much. This is my country and I’m proud to be a pop star from this country. …

“I want people that watch the Halftime show that Pepsi Zero Sugar is putting on with us to feel the greatness of the USA.”

Did you feel the greatness of the USA while watching?

Super Bowl 50 Halftime Show: Grade It!

Say this about Super Bowl 50: it successfully lowered the bar on our expectations for its halftime show.

Unlike past halftime performers such as Madonna, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars, Coldplay isn’t exactly known for bringing the house down with any loud, raucous, dance-filled anthems.

So… did Chris Martin and company surprise viewers with their set of Super Bowl songs?

Or was this halftime performance more boring than the wishbone offense?

Well… Coldplay didn’t exactly blow us away. They’re a perfectly acceptable band that plays perfectly chill music. But that isn’t exactly what the Super Bowl stage is for.

But then Bruno Mars showed up! And he sang Uptown Funk! And of course it was amazing!

And then Beyonce showed up! And she sang her new song Formation!

And then she stared down Mars and the two danced together to Uptown Funk! And it was awesome!

Martin was then brought back in to sing a tribute to the previous 49 Super Bowl halftime performers, belting out a medley of their tracks while viewers watched highlights from those performances.

And that was pretty darn cool.

So this wasn’t really a Coldplay halftime show.

It was a Chris Martin, Beyonce, and Bruno Mars halftime show, with the latter two artists doing their crazy talented and entertaining thing and Martin chiming in on the piano to honor those who came before him.

And it all worked out pretty well in the end.

Do you agree? Did it seem sort of like Chris Martin had been given a wish by the Make-A-Wish Foundation to join two of the world’s best performers on the world’s grandest stage?

Chime in below.

GRADE THE SUPER BOWL 50 HALFTIME SHOW:

Lady Gaga National Anthem Performance: Grade It!

Who would have thought that a woman who once wore a meat dress to the MTV Video Music Awards would be singing our country’s theme song just five and a half year later.

Only in America, huh?

That’s exactly what took place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday night, as Lady Gaga took to the field prior to the Carolina Panthers taking on the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 50.

Did she equal the inspirational performance of Whitney Houston when belting out the Star-Spangled Banner?

No, but that’s an impossible bar to set for any performer.

Lady Gaga did prove, however, that she is far more than just someone who dresses up in weird outfits on stage.

(Even though she did rock a glittery red outfit, replete with bright red eye shadow and blue nails.)

She’s a true artist with a real voice and she showed it off in memorable fashion in front of the biggest audience any singer will ever face.

If you’ll forgive our mixing of sports metaphors, we think she hit a home run.

Do you agree? Where do you stand on Gaga’s rendition?

Did Gaga live up to expectations? Where do you rank her performance on the list of all-time Super Bowl national anthem performances?

Fifth Grade Teacher Dons Blackface, Dresses Like Kanye West

A fifth grade teacher from Alabama named Heath Morrow has found himself in viral hot water after sharing a photo on Facebook of his 2015 Halloween costume.

It features Morrow dressed up like Kanye West, wearing a gold chain, a backward baseball cap and holding up a sign that touts Kanye’s Presidential run in 2020.

Oh, and did we mention Morrow is rocking blackface to complete his ensemble?

“Haha some people thought Heath was really a black man,” wrote Heath’s wife, Shannon, as a caption to the picture.

She’s dressed up like Kim Kardashian, of course, as you can tell by the extra padding added to her rear end.

Heath is a teacher at Chestnut Grove Elementary School in Decatur and he received so much backlash for this costume that Shannon took the image off Facebook.

A few celebrities out there can relate to Heath, most notably Julianne Hough.

She dressed up as a character from Orange is the New Black last year, having to eventually apologize for painting her face black as part of the outfit.

The blackface on its own is offensive, of course.

But so is the mere notion of anyone wanting to be Kanye and Kim for Halloween.

Come on, people. Can’t we do better than this?!?
