In the nearly two years since news of the Josh Duggar sex scandals first came to light, Josh’s wife, Anna Duggar, has continued to play a significant role in her in-laws’ lives, both on and off camera.
The Duggars have gone to great lengths to keep Josh off of Counting On, and they would undoubtedly prefer that fans forget about his horrific crimes.
But they’ve also made a point of including Anna on their show, possibly as an indication that they’re not entirely sweeping the whole thing under the rug.
Anna has made tearful confessions about the tremendous emotional toll of being married to an abusive sex addict, but she’s also taken part in the more lighthearted activities that make up the bulk of the series.
For obvious reasons, the Duggars prefer the latter scenes.
Without ever expressly acknowledging Josh’s crimes, they get to give the impression that all is well and that Anna has recovered from the trauma of learning that her husband molested his sisters and used a website to search for cheating partners.
So it’s not surprising that Anna’s latest appearance on the Duggars’ web series centers around her helping to plan Jinger Duggar’s bridal shower.
Yes, the Duggars are once again mining Jinger’s wedding for fresh material.
It’s an odd choice as Jinger married Jeremy Vuolo back in November, and there have been several major developments in the family since then, but for whatever reason, the family keeps subjecting fans to endless re-hashings of the run-up to the wedding.
As with every other Duggar event, Jinger’s bridal shower was ridiculously well-attended.
“They are expecting about 80 guests, and although that sounds like a lot, it is fairly common for Duggar gatherings,” the family explained in a recent blog post.
For some reason, Anna was tasked with making the arrangements.
“I think it’s just a neat opportunity to have a day for some of her closest friends to come together and just share in the excitement of her upcoming wedding,” Anna says in the “webisode,” staying on message with a signature Duggar smile.
The choice of subject matter is particularly bizarre considering Anna is currently pregnant with her fifth child, but perhaps the Duggars are trying to avoid associating Josh Duggar with children in the minds of their viewers.
That might prove increasingly difficult, as production sources have indicated that Anna will play a larger role in the next season of her in-laws’ reality show.
