Scott Weiland Dies; Stone Temple Pilots Singer Was 48

Scott Weiland – the rock star best known as the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver – has reportedly passed away at the age of 48.

Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro broke the news moments ago in a series of social media posts:

“Just learned our friend Scott Weiland has died,” Navarro tweeted. “So gutted, I am thinking of his family tonight.”

The Los Angeles radio station KNAC  confirmed the news shortly thereafter.

Weiland’s cause of death of is unknown, but the singer struggled with drug and alcohol abuse throughout his career, and many fans are speculating that his addictions may have contributed to his early demise.

Best known for his work with STP, Weiland wrote and recorded such hits as “Interstate Love Song,” “Plush,” and “Creep.”

Weiland was fired from Stone Temple Pilots in 2013 and went on to front the supergroup Velvet Revolver along with former members of Guns N’ Roses.

In the later stages of his career, Weiland made more headlines for his legal troubles than for his music.

The singer was arrested multiple times for drug and alcohol related offenses over the past decade.

He was reportedly found dead on his tour bus by his personal manager earlier tonight.

We’ll have updates on this story as more information becomes available.

Game of Thrones Season 6: First Trailer!

They have no idea what is going to happen.

So intones the first official trailer for Game of Thrones Season 6, just released by HBO and, no, it"s not referencing the hit drama"s showrunners with the above quote.

It"s talking instead about the characters themselves (and perhaps even the viewers), who simply cannot predict what is about to go down this spring.

Then again, the worst kept secret in television appear to be out now that HBO has also unveiled the first poster for Season 6.

It features a supposedly dead Jon Snow, seemingly confirming the return of that beloved character.

Jon Snow is also featured prominently in the following trailer, as we relive his death to close out Game of Thrones Season 5 and we even go way back in time to the death of Ned Stark.

There is no new footage depicted in the promo, just a reminder of all the death and violence that has befallen Westeros over the years.

Why do we have a feeling that even more is on tap throughout Season 6?

We also get a look at Bran Stark, who was absent from Season 5, but who will come back and play a key role in 2016.

In what capacity? We"ll find out in a few months.

Look for new Game of Thrones episodes to kick off in April of next year and get yourself excited for all to come now. Check out the teaser now:

Kim Kardashian: I Feel "Fat as F-ck!"

This (not) just in: Kim Kardashian is not a fan of this whole pregnancy thing.

In her latest official website blog entry, the 35-year old reality star laments how she’s grown to be “the size of a pumpkin,” going on to throw herself one heck of a pity party.

“I’m feeling fat as f—. My cankles are out of control,” Kardashian writes, adding that she’s “craving Lay’s Barbecue potato chips.”

Kim and Kanye West, of course, are expecting a boy.

He was originally due on Christmas Day, but Kim has suffered through a few complications (including the fetus being breach until a painful procedure recently corrected him) and Kanye now says his son will be born any day in the near future.

Kardashian has also been very open of late regarding just how over being pregnant she is.

She’s whined about her swollen feet and how hard she’s trying to work while knocked up and, in general, how expecting a child is just awful.

Some critics out there are hating on Kardashian for complaining about the miracle of life and the small price one must pay of gaining some weight for a few months in order to create a person.

They’re also already groaning over all the times going forward that she’ll talk about getting her bikini body back. Barf!

Some fans out there, conversely, are applauding Kim for her honest approach to life and pregnancy.

At The Hollywood Gossip, meanwhile? We just want to know one thing and one thing only:

WHAT WILL KIM AND KANYE NAME THEIR BABY?!?!?

Melvin Williams Dies; The Wire Actor Was 73

In his youth, Melvin Williams was a West Baltimore drug lord who served many years in prison after being arrested by a police officer named Ed Burns in 1984.

Decades later, when Burns was co-creating the acclaimed HBO series The Wire, he used Williams as the inspiration for the ruthless Avon Barksdale – and he showed his gratitude to Williams by casting him as one of the show’s most sympathetic characters:

Williams appeared as The Deacon on several episodes of The Wire during the series’ third and fourth seasons. Though he’d never acted before, his genuine, compassionate performance drew raves from critics.

Interestingly, Williams crossed paths with both of the show’s creators in his days as a dealer-turned-convict.

Former journalist and The Wire executive producer David Simon wrote a revealing profile of Williams during his time with The Baltimore Sun:

“He was West Baltimore’s man child,” Simon wrote, “quick witted and calculating, a prodigy from Pennsylvania Avenue’s pool halls and juke joints, where the hustler’s game was played night after night.”

At the peak of his power, Williams was such a feared and respected figure that city officials called upon him to help quell the riots that followed the 1968 assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Of course, ironically, Williams greatest legacy will always be his role in the wiretap investigation that led to his arrest  – and inspired a cop and a newspaperman to create one of TV’s greatest dramas.
