Game of Thrones Season 7: First Casting Scoop!

The world of Harry Potter is about to meet the world of Game of Thrones.

And forget those Kim Kardashian nude photos from awhile back. THIS information may very well break the Internet.

According to Entertainment Weekly, the first piece of casting news for Game of Thrones Season 7 is here.

And this is it: the HBO epic has signed Oscar winner Jim Broadbent for some kind of recurring role.

Yes, some kind of recurring role is the best we can do or say here. No other details have been released.

The veteran British performer’s credits range from the movies Time Bandits, Brazil and Bridget Jones’s Diary… to his Emmy-nominated title role on the series Longford.

But come on.

He’s best known and most beloved for playing the character of Horace Slughorn in the Harry Potter film franchise.

Broadbent also took home the best supporting actor Oscar for his role in the 2001 film Iris.

Entertainment Weekly confirms that Broadbent’s character will be “significant” when Game of Thrones returns next spring…

… but that’s about it.

Go ahead and share your theories on which character Broadbent’s could be taking on below.

As for what we DO know about Game of Thrones Season 7…

It will film in Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland.

It will only consist of seven episodes.

Maisie Williams (Arya Stark) read a few scripts and Tweeted that “nothing will prepare you for” the new season.

Broadbent, meanwhile, is the latest actor to shift from to make the move from Harry Potter over to Westeros.

Natalia Tena played Tonks in the beloved movies, as well as Osha in the HBO series.

Then there was David Bradley, who played Filch and Walder Frey.

Finally, Ciarán Hinds played Aberforth Dumbledore and Mance Rayder.

Game of Thrones concluded an uneven Season 6 on an insanely awesome note.

The final featured a number of deaths; a new leader of the Seven Kingdoms; and so much more. To wit:

Tragically, HBO has confirmed that the series will come to an end after Season 8.

What the heck are we gonna do then?!?

Game of Thrones Season 7: New Characters Revealed!

The penultimate go-round of one of the most beloved series in television history may still be several months away, but if you think we’re gonna wait that long to start talking about Game of Thrones Season 7, you’re crazier than a grieving Lannister.

Speaking of families who always pay their debts and always get their revenge, there will be spoilers ahead, so if you’re not caught up,  run in a straight line like Rickon Stark in the opposite direction of this article.

Or just watch Game of Thrones online at TV Fanatic and then come back to us. We’ll wait.

Anyway, as usual D.B. Weiss, David Benioff and the folks at HBO have kept a tight lid on production details and news about the forthcoming slate of episodes has been scant.

In fact, until today, only two concrete details had emerged:

  • Season 7 will be shorter than its predecessors, as the show concludes with two truncated outings, and

  • Production has already been delayed due to the fact that winter has finally come to Westeros, and well, most parts of the world just aren’t that wintry this time of year, and shooting at the South Pole would probably create budget issues.

In this post-book world we’re living in, no one who hasn’t seen the scripts really knows what will happen next. (though it’s safe to say Jon’s reign as King in the North won’t go smoothly. Nothing does on GoT.)

But thanks to the show’s most recent casting calls, we do know that

The show advertised requests for nine new characters.

Some of them don’t reveal a whole seven hells of a lot about what’s to come (A “Lovely Lady” with a British accent? Do go on…), but others may give us some idea about where the action is headed.

Producers are looking for actors to play a “general” and a “priest,” both to shoot for one full week in September.

Obviously, they won’t be on the show very long, but their presence suggests Cersei’s conflict with the Faith Militant will come back to haunt her (as we pretty much knew it would).

There are also requests for a “warrior” and “gate guard” who will be on set slightly longer.

Fans believe the latter will be featured in one of Bran’s “warging” scenes.

GoT obsessives have taken a particular interest in a “city guard” role, not because of the character, but because of “suspicious person” that he “intercepts” (and is probably killed by) according to the description.

So that’s it.

Like we said, not a whole lot to hold us over through the long winter ahead.

(You better live up to the hype, Westworld!)

But hey, if you thought the show’s production team would offer us anything as substantial as character names this early on, then you have a lot in common with Jon Snow, and we’re not talking about your ability to survive multiple stab wounds.

Game of Thrones Gag Reel: Laughter is Coming!

Game of Thrones is known for many things.

There"s drama.

There"s suspense.

There are dragons.

And there is a lot of nudity.

But humor? No. Game of Thrones is known known for cracking anyone"s funny bone. It rarely even attempts to do so.

You may think a bit differently about the HBO epic after viewing the following video, however.

It aired during the show"s panel discussion at Comic-Con in San Diego and it"s a blooper reel that features, among other gags, Peter Dinklage having a very hard time saying the word "benevolent."

There"s also Kit Harrington covering up his private parts…

… Emilia Clarke making very weird sounds while trying to speak in a different language.

There"s some dancing. There"s some slipping.

And there"s Dinklage again, still trying to say that same pesky word.

That scene where Jon Snow was brought back to life toward the beginning of Game of Thrones Season 6?

You may never look at it the same way after this.

Check out the blooper reel now:

Game of Thrones Season 7: When Will It Premiere?

The reign of Queen Cersei will last for longer than we previously imagined on Game of Thrones.

HBO confirmed on Monday that Game of Thrones Season 7 will not premiere until some time in the summer of 2017.

Why the delay? It’s actually weather-related (see statement below) and it is interesting to note for a couple reasons:

FIRST, Game of Thrones has never before premiered later than April 24.

SECOND, this maneuver will take the show out of Emmy consideration next year because the eligibility period concludes on May 31.

That sound you hear? It’s of hundreds of producers from other shows standing up and cheering.

(The epic drama led all other programs in 2016 with a whopping 23 total nominations and it won Best Drama last year.)

“Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing,” said HBO’s president of production, Casey Bloys, in a statement.

“Instead of the show’s traditional spring debut, we’re moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule.”

We know what you’re all thinking in response to this news:

Shame

Oh, there’s one more piece of bad news:

Game of Thrones Season 7 will only be comprised of seven episodes; past seasons have been comprised of 10.

At the conclusion of Game of Thrones Season 6, well… a lot happened.

Cersei blew up her enemies.

Tommen committed suicide.

Cersei took over the Iron Throne.

Arya killed someone on her list.

Jon Snow was named King of the North.

Dany gathered together quite an army and we concluded the season with them sailing toward King’s Landing.

We’ve compiled a list of the most memorable moments from the finale below.

You’ll sadly now have extra time to ponder where each storyline is going, following today’s announcement from HBO.

Samuel L. Jackson Recaps Game of Thrones: F--k Those Dragons!

It might be a full ten months before the seven bless us with new episodes of Game of Thrones.

There was a time when we thought we’d have to rely on our memories of the epic season 6 finale to keep us cool until winter comes again.

Fortunately, now we have a surprisingly-thorough recap of the entire series courtesy of the baddest motherf–ker on the planet, Samuel L. Jackson:

“The seasons in this place last a ridiculously long time,” Jackson notes early on.

“So let’s just say [the characters] ain’t too happy about winter coming.”

It’s a simple observation, but an important one.

In fact, it’s one of the most important facts about the show, but it receives surprisingly little serious attention.

We all know the Stark family’s icy reminder of the importance of constant preparedness, but we bet you’d be surprised by how many of your non-book-reading, casual GoT-watching friends are unaware (or have simply never thought about) the likelihood that winter will last for the remainder of these characters’ lives.

Obviously, the the entire 7-minute clip is hilarious, but it’s also a potent reminder of everythihg that brought us to this point and just how much has happened since viewers were first introduced to the lands of Westeros and Essos back in 2011.

Robert Baratheon, Viserys Targaryen, Ned Stark … These days, sky-high body counts are par for the course on GoT, but back in Season 1, fans were shocked by the show’s willingness to off characters who seemed to be established as series regulars.

“Nice family, right?” Jackson says of the Starks. “Don’t get attached.”

In a way there could be no better recapper than Jackson, as he’s one of the few actors who’s responsible for almost as many onscreen deaths as David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

And if those reports of a production delays on Season 7 of Thrones are true, we may be turning to this video for comfort many times in the coming months.

Fortunately, you can always watch Game of Thrones online if you’re fiending for some midsummer Snow.

Game of Thrones Season 7: Production Delayed Due to Winter Not Coming

It’s been less than two weeks since the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale blew us away like a thousand kegs of wildfire, but fans are already clamoring for reports on what to expect from Season 7.

Well, we recently received a raven from Castle Black – and we regret to inform you that it’s dark and full of terrors:

Season 6 started later than any previous installment, and with grand-scale masterpieces like “Battle of the Bastards” and “The Winds of Winter,” it’s not hard to see why production took a little longer than usual.

Unfortunately, the wait for Season 7 may be longer than winter in Westeros, and it’s not because of (or at least it’s not entirely because of) the show’s ever-increasing budget demands.

“We’re starting a little bit later because, at the end of this season, winter is here, and that means that sunny weather doesn’t really serve our purposes any more,” showrunner D.B. Weiss recently told Entertainment Weekly

“We kind of pushed everything down the line so we could get some grim, gray weather, even in the sunnier places that we shoot.”

Yes, after several seasons of stern warnings from House Stark, winter has finally arrived.

Given how long it took the weather to change (Seasons in Westeros aren’t slaves you calendar, maaaan!), it’s expected to be a long and particularly brutal one.

That means that even the sunnier climes like King’s Landing might be in store for a blast of winter chill.

Better than that last blast, amirite?!

Sorry, is it still too soon for Sept of Baelor jokes?

Fortunately, since this season will likely be shorter than the previous 6 (Weiss and partner David Benioff say there’s likely only 13 episodes remaining), the delay in production doesn’t necessarily mean a later season premiere.

Watch Game of Thrones online at TV Fanatic to reminiscence on the awesomeness that was Season 6.

Then weep for the fact that you’ll be waiting at least 10 months for new GoT.

Game of Thrones Season 7: How Many Episodes Are Left? What"s Jon Snow"s Real Name? And Other Questions

The bad news: another season of Game of Thrones has come and gone.

The good news? The Season 6 finale delivered in a huuuuuge way. (Apologies to the real life Bran the Builder, Donald Trump, for stealing his favorite word.)

Not only did the episode bring in record ratings for HBO, it also delivered one of the show"s highest body counts to date.

Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss answered plenty of long-lingering questions (Take a bow, R + L = J theorists!), but they may have raised just as many new ones in the process.

So like the Maesters at the Citadel in Oldtown, we"ve taken it upon ourselves to solve Westeros" mysteries.

Obviously, this post is dark and full of spoilers, so go watch Game of Thrones online if you"re not caught up.

If you"ve already seen the wildfire-fueled finale jump right into the gallery below. (RIP Tommen, the Swan Dive King):

1. Jon Snow: Who’s Your Daddy?

Jon snow ready for battle

The Tower of Joy confirmed the long-held fan theory that Jon Snow is the son of Ned Stark’s sister, Lyanna. They didn’t mention the father by name, but fans know Lyanna disappeared with Rhaegar Targaryen not long before she got knocked up. Yes, that makes him a relative to the Khaleesi. More on that later…

2. Is the End Near For Mad Queen Cersei?

Queen cersei

In the season finale, we saw Cersei take the Iron Throne after her massacre at the Sept of Baelor drove her son, King Tommen, to suicide. We didn’t see how Jaime took the news, but there’s a prophecy that Cersei will be killed by her brother (Most assumed it would be Tyrion.) and Jaime has a history of slaying monarchs. Make of that what you will.

3. Where is Daenerys Headed?

Tyrion and daenerys

The last we saw of Dany, she was setting sail in the company of Tyrion, the Greyjoys, three dragons, and a bajillion ships. Obviously she’s headed to Westeros, but where exactly? We can’t imagine the writers will have her storm King’s Landing and clash with Cersei right off the bat.

4. What Happened to the Night’s King?

Bran and the nights king

The Night’s King gave us one of this season’s most talked-about scenes (RIP, Hodor), then disappeared. Many fans have pointed out that Bran’s uncle Benjen said he can’t go south of the Wall, as he’s not among the living. So it’s safe to assume that the King and his Walkers are limited in their movements. Presumably they were able to attack the Three-Eyed Raven’s home only because Bran allowed one to touch him.

5. A Civil War in House Stark?

Sansa and jon

Jon is officially the King in the North (and the White Wolf, badass nickname). But Sansa played a huge role in helping him reclaim Winterfell, and he has yet to acknowledge his debt to her. With Littlefinger influencing her at every turn, expect Mrs. Baratheon-Bolton to make a bid for what’s hers.

6. Sam at the Citadel: What’s the Big Deal?

Sam at the citadel whats the big deal

In the Season 6 finale, Sam and Gilly arrived at the Citadel, and Sam got to ckeck out its epic library. It was a strange tonal shift from the rest of the episode, and many fans are no doubt wondering what it was doing in such an eventful episode. Well, as you can see, the globe-y thing hanging from the scene is similar to the sun sphere featured in the opening credits. We don’t know what this means yet, but we can be sure it’s no coincidence.

Game of Thrones Season 6 Finale SHATTERS Ratings Records!

SPOILER ALERT:

King’s Landing wasn’t the only thing that blew up on Sunday night!

According to numbers released today, ratings for the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale are the highest in the show’s history by a good margin.

An estimated 8.9 million viewers watched the live broadcast of Cersei’s massacre at the Sept of Baelor.

The record was previously held by the Season 5 finale, which pulled in 8.1 million.

In the all-important 18-49 demo, the series also beat its previous personal best.

“The Winds of Winter” notched an impressive 4.4 million viewers in that category.

The high water-mark prior to Sunday night was 4.1 million.

Of course, these days, the real measure of a show’s popularity is the live + 3 and live + 7 ratings. (Watching shows when they’re scheduled to air is totes for old people.)

Those numbers aren’t out yet for the finale, but Thrones has been killing it in said departments all season.

In fact, the show averaged 23.3 million viewers per episode across all platforms in Season 6.

Bolstered by strong word of mouth, the series’ ratings have been steadily climbing for the past three seasons.

HBO still spends a fortune on marketing, but it almost seems unnecessary at this point.

After the insane amount of online buzz that followed the penultimate episode, “Battle of the Bastards“, there was no way the Season 6 swan song was not going to deliver huge numbers.

Social media was abuzz with predictions, and fans know that once the show airs, avoiding spoilers becomes more and more difficult with each passing day.

Watch Game of Thrones online if you still need to catch up.

Just make sure you’re quick about it: Facebook is dark and full of spoilers.

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 10 Recap: Winter is Here!

It’s hard to believe, but yet another season of Game of Thrones has come to a bloody, brutal end.

In the past, GoT finales have been more about tying up loose ends than advancing the plot, but now that the show has (according to some reports) just 13 episodes remaining, the old formula has clearly gone out the window.

We begin with the trial of Loras Tyrell – and an ominous, unsettling tone that the show has never attempted before.

Margaery’s brother confesses to his crimes as anticipated, but we don’t think anyone expected what occurred after his trial.

In one of the most thrillingly bizarre sequences the series has ever executed, Loras gets the star of the Faith Militant carved into his forehead, Maester Pycelle is assassinated by a gang of children, Lancel gets cut down by one of said badass kids …

And Cersei gets her revenge as only she could.

With some well-placed kegs of wildfire – the same substance her brother Tyrion used to save King’s Landing in Season 2 – Cersei sends the High Sparrow and his flock to the big aviary in the sky.

As a bonus, she gets to torture Septa Unella with the help of the zombified Mountain.

As an unfortunate consequence, her last remaining child, King Tommen, decides to plummet to his kingly death.

Speaking of tragedies, Walder Frey is still reveling in his family’s role in the Red Wedding.

From there, we cut to his twin and lifelong love reaching the difficult episode to cremate their son.

Perhaps sensing that this episode is already almost unbearably bleak, the showrunners decide to cut us break by revisiting the more lighthearted adventures of Sam and Gilly.

Sam gets his first look at the Citadel’s library in a scene that brings to mind Belle getting her look at the Beast’s book collection.

From there, we cut to his buddy Jon Snow griping about sitting at the kids’ table at family feasts.

Davos busts in with the revelation that Melisandre suggested burning Shireen at the stake before her previous master’s battle with the Boltons.

Jon exiles her, which is better than an execution, but still kinda harsh for the woman that brought him back to life.

The Winterfell action concludes with Jon and Sansa having a tender moment and discussing the change of season in a way that’s poignant to longtime fans. (Couldn’t we have SEEN the white raven to make things more climactic?)

Then it’s down to Dorne where a grieving Olenna Tyrell makes an alliance with the Martells and Varys.

In keeping with the breakneck pace of this episode (and the season, really) Daenerys then breaks the news to Daario that he won’t be joining her in Westeros.

She confesses to Tyrion that she cares about power more than men in what we imagine was an awkward scene to watch in the Clinton household. (We kid, Hillary!)

Fortunately, the Khaleesi makes a more important alliance moments later naming Tyrion Hand of the Queen.

Really starting to feel like we’re ramping up to the endgame, isn’t it?

Speaking of endings, Arya cuts Walder’s throat (Nice to see she hasn’t lost those powers of disguise!)

Littlefinger proposes to Sansa (as so many believed he would) but she’s having none of it.

Hey, at least he offered some totes motivational word before getting shot down.

We cut back to Bran and Meera for the first time in weeks as they bid farewell to their savior, Benjen.

Then we get the moment so many fans have waited for since this season’s first previews – the first official confirmation of R + L = J.

Jon is confirmed not only as Lyanna Stark’s son, but also as the King in the North, in what’s been a pretty eventful season for the Bastard of Winterfell (what with being brought back to life and all).

Then, in a twist that we doubt anyone saw coming, Cersei climbs the Iron Throne.

Jaime should really just stop leaving King’s Landing. Dude always comes back to some harsh news.

From there, we cut to Dany, setting sail for the Seven Kingdoms with Tyrion, Varys, the Greyjoys, three dragons, and a whole crapload of ships.

Is there anyway we can be put into a coma until next season?

Sigh. Sadly, HBO has yet to offer us that technology.

Watch Game of Thrones online to get your fix in the long, Thrones-less days to come and remember that even in the midst of summer – winter is coming.

12 Holy $hit Moments from the Game of Thrones Finale

Wait… what happened?!? Who died?!?

Who is the King? Who is the Queen?

The Game of Thrones Season 6 finale answered a number of questions, posed many more and left viewers absolutely reeling.

Here is a look back at the most memorable moments:

1. BOOM Goes Cersei’s Dynamite

Boom goes cerseis dynamite

Well, not dynamite. Wildfire. But the concept and result were the same: instead of attending her trial, Cersei BLEW UP the Sept, killing everyone inside. This include the High Sparrow and Margaery.

2. This Will Hurt

This will hurt

But that wasn’t enough for Cersei. She also had Septa Unella imprisoned in the Red Keep, giving the Mountain full reign to torture her previous tormenter with the only caveat being that Unella’s death be drawn out a long, long, long time.

3. A Problem with her Plan

A problem with her plan

After witnessing the carnage created by his mother, Tommen jumped out a window and committed suicide. Cersei has now lost all her children.

4. But Now She’s The Queen of the Seven Kingdoms!

But now shes the queen of the seven kingdoms

So she has that going for her at least.

5. R+L = FINALLY!

R plus l equals finally

Yes, Jon Snow is the child of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. He has both bloodlines running through him, he has a claim to the throne… and maybe he can even control some dragons.

6. The King of the North!

The king of the north

By the end of the episode, Jon Snow has been properly dubbed the King of the North. (But he best beware of Littlefinger.)

Game of Thrones Season 6 Episode 10 Photos: A Clash at King"s Landing!

Well, it"s hard to believe, but another season of Game of Thrones is drawing to an end.

Despite – or perhaps because of – how wildly eventful this season was it seemed to fly by us faster than Rickon Stark racing across a battlefield. (Too soon?)

As usual, the body count was through the roof this season.

We"re still grieving for some good guys (The phrase "hold the door" might bring us to tears from now on.) and rejoicing over the demise over some very, very bad guys. (Here"s hoping Ramsay"s dogs took time to really enjoy their meal.)

On Sunday night, the show will conclude its epic (if somewhat uneven) sixth outing with the longest GoT episode to date at nearly 70 minutes.

Can "The Winds of Winter" up the ante on last week"s "Battle of the Bastards"?

That"s no easy feat but we"re sure to enjoy the effort.

Watch Game of Thrones online to get caught up in time for the season finale, and check out some production stills in the gallery below:

1. Cersei at King’s Landing

Cersei at kings landing

It’s going down at King’s Landing in the Game of Thrones Season 6 finale. Will Cersei triumph over the High Sparrow and the Faith Militant?

2. The Trial of Loras Tyrell

The trial of loras tyrell

Loras has has a rough couple of seasons. Though she seems to have fallen under the High Sparrow’s spell, we expect Queen Margaery will spring to her brother’s defense.

3. Tyrion & Daenerys

Tyrion and daenerys

It seemed to take forever for these fan favorites’ storylines to intersect, and then they spent most of this season in separate parts of the world. Okay, now we’re nit-picking. We’re just glad their bond remains unbroken.

4. Bran Stark: Chillin’

Bran stark chillin

The phrase has never been more literal. Bran looks relaxed here – but he also looks damn cold.

5. Flying the Lannister Flag

Flying the lannister flag

Bronn and Jaime Lannister are on the march. Here’s hoping we’ll see some badassery from the sellsword before this season is out.

6. Dour Davos

Dour davos

Davos Seaworth looks angry here. The trailer for the season finale seems to indicate that he has some beef with Melisandre.

Game of Thrones Season 6 Finale Predictions: Will Winter Finally Come to Westeros?

For six seasons now, we"ve been hearing the words of House Stark so often that they"ve become an unofficial tagline for the show:

Winter is coming.

Ned Stark promised the change of seasons before he lost his head, and Catelyn Stark warned of a snowy future before she was cut down at the Red Wedding.

As Game of Thrones Season 6 has taught us time and again, anything goes in post-book Westeros, and trying to predict what will happen next on the show is an exercise in futility.

That said, Sunday night"s season finale is entitled "The Winds of Winter," so it"s a safe bet that temps will start dropping from King"s Landing up to the Wall (where it"s already pretty damn cold).

As the episode is the longest in the show"s history (69 minutes), and it shares a title with the forthcoming novel in George R.R. Martin"s A Song of Ice and Fire series, you can bet that it"ll be an eventful one.

Will it top last week"s Battle of the Bastards?

We"re not sure any show could accomplish that – but here"s a roundup of what folks on the web think will happen.

Check out the full list below and watch Game of Thrones online to get caught up in time for the Season 6 finale.

You"ll want to be able watch it live. After all, spoilers are coming.

1. Satisfaction From the Tower of Joy

Bran stark all grown up

Following the death of Hodor (Sorry, the moratorium on spoilers for that one is long expired.), the show abandoned Bran and Meera’s storyline. Expect a return to warging this week, along with some closure on Bran’s Tower of Joy flashback.

2. The Death of a Major Character

Varys and tyrion look confused

In the past, the GoT season finale has often been devoted to tying up loose ends, but several insiders have stated that won’t be the case this year. In fact, it’s been reported that the show has at least one more big surprise up its sleeve in the form of the death of a major character. It probably won’t be Tyrion or Varys. In fact, it DEFINITELY won’t be Tyrion, as the writers probably aren’t looking to start riots.

3. The North Will Rally Around Jon

Jon snow ready for battle

Kind of a foregone conclusion following last week’s decisive victory in battle. But an interesting development nonetheless, as it brings Jon one step closer to joining forces with Daenerys to fight for the Iron Throne. Of course, her new alliance with the Greyjoys may complicate that.

4. A Return to Dorne

Sand snake showdown

The episode’s promotional material promises a return to down south to Dorne. Not a favorite storyline for most fans, but maybe something interesting will FINALLY develop there.

5. King’s Landing Will Burn

Cersei and the mountain

The tension between Cersei and the High Sparrow has been building all season. Expect the Faith Militant situation to come to a head this week – with deadly consequences…

6. A Fallen King?

Tommen on the iron throne

We’re not sure why everyone wants the Iron Throne so badly. King of Westeros is one hell of a dangerous job. Many fans believe this week’s war with the High Sparrow could mean curtains for King Tommen.
