The Connors Premiere: How They Killed Off Roseanne
In May of this year, Roseanne Barr"s outspoken racism got her fired from her own show.
Fortunately, the rest of the cast, crew, and production team were saved when ABC confirmed a Roseanne spinoff, The Connors.
As you can see in this clip from The Connors premiere, they killed off Roseanne"s character. Here"s how:
On Tuesday, October 16, The Connors premiered.
There, viewers learned that Roseanne — the character — has died.
At first, the Connors simply believed that her cause of death had been a heart attack. That is the simplest way to kill off a character of her age.
She fell victim, writers and producers decided, to an opioid overdose.
As the family grieves, they remark on odd things that anyone who"s lost an immediate family member has noted — like the custom of bringing food to those who are in mourning.
(Note that while Roseanne may have died, that cringey laugh track remains)
Obviously, no actual Roseannes were harmed during the filming of this episode.
Dan — John Goodman"s character — was particularly upset to learn that she had died of an overdose.
He had personally flushed her pain pills following her knee surgery, fearing that they might be misused or fall into the wrong hand.
In his quest to find someone to blame, he targeted the woman whose name was on the pill bottle.
But he learned that it wasn"t so simple — Roseanne had stashed pill bottles from multiple sources all over the house.
Beyond this, the episode covered the Connor family trying to figure out how to exist with their new normal.
Part of that simply meant performing tasks that Roseanne herself used to do.
Dan assumed the role of someone to whom people come to talk, so it was to Dan that Mark came out as gay.
(Dan did a good job, saying that he just wished that Mark had felt comfortable telling him sooner)
In the mean time, Jackie spends the entire time trying to fill in for Roseanne around the house, but it"s really because she"s not prepared to say goodbye to her late friend.
The episode ends with the family sitting around the table.
There isn"t the usual laughter, but they"re all happy.
It is also revealed that Dan has been sleeping on the couch since Roseanne"s overdose, but he finally returns to his bed.
Honestly, that"s a very realistic struggle for people who are grieving.
And grappling with an unexpected opioid overdose is an all too real struggle for Americans.
The Connors" premiere ratings were reportedly steady with the finale of Roseanne.
(And that"s an incomplete sample of viewers — think of how many people have yet to watch the episode on their DVRs)
Some reviewers went ahead and wrote that The Connors is exactly the sort of revival that ABC should have aired last year.
This show, many viewers agree, has more of the spirit of the original series.
Too much of that lone revival season of Roseanne felt like a betrayal of what the show had always represented.
In the end, plenty of people who would never have tuned in to the Roseanne revival would happily watch The Connors.
Similarly, plenty of people who watched the Roseanne revival because they wanted to cheer on a fellow Trump supporter are boycotting this series.
So far, it appears that the ratings are evening out. We hope that they remain strong.
When Roseanne was canceled, it left hundreds of people suddenly without jobs — people who hadn"t been looking for a new production job because Season 2 was already a sure thing.
If nothing else, we"re glad that The Connors is keeping those people employed for another television cycle. And perhaps, for many more.

Alaskan Bush People Premiere DESTROYS Kardashian Ratings!
On Sunday, August 19, Alaskan Bush People‘s new season premiered. Fans and viewers got to see the Brown family in Washington for the first time.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians had an episode during the same timeslot. And if Kris got cross on camera, we can only imagine how she feels off camera.
Because Alaskan Bush People‘s ratings absolutely trounced those of KUWTK. They had more than three times as many viewers.
Let’s take a look at Showbuzz Daily‘s Top 150 List and see how ratings went during that August 9 timeslot.
Alaskan Bush People: 3.4 million viewers on Discovery.
90 Day Fiance: 2.2 millon viewers on TLC.
Fear The Walking Dead: 1.9 million viewers on AMC.
Finding Dory: 1.7 million viewers on The Disney Channel.
Keeping Up With The Kardashians did not even bring in 1.1 million for E!
What’s more is that Alaskan Bush People‘s season premiere had nearly double the claim on the coveted 18-49 demographic.
Now, season premiere numbers can give a bit of a bump. That’s normal.
But we’re talking about a difference of more than two million people. That looks like more than a bump, folks.
We’re talking about a family considered to be American royalty getting less than one-third of the market share that the Brown family did.
So, why did viewers tune in?
Well, it wasn’t just to see Bear Brown run through the woods of Washington State.
Viewers are genuinely concerned about Ami Brown’s ongoing cancer battle. They love Ami.
Even though they know that the Brown family spends their off season living large in a Beverly Hills mansion, fans have forged a powerful attachment to the family members.
They want to see how Ami is doing for themselves.
They want to see how the family is adjusting to Washington.
Does this spell doom for the Kardashians?
No, and we don’t mean to suggest that Kris Jenner will see the ratings and start exposing one of her children to carcinogens to attract viewers.
(Insert the obligatory what was really in those doughnuts Kris tried to feed Khloe joke)
First of all, the Kardashian brand is no longer exclusively and inextricably linked to Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
That’s why Kourtney is a millionaire living comfortably and Kylie is on the verge of becoming a billionaire.
Reality television gave the Kardashians a stepping stone that they’ve used to grow their brands and their wealth. It was a means to an end.
We don’t think that this new ratings dynamic means that viewers want totally different things.
If networks respond to this by churning out show after show of families living in unspeakably remote wilderness while one of them battles a terminal illness, it would be a mistake.
This is probably a symptom of overexposure. Everybody knows who the Kardashians are and what they’re up to.
The big surprises that had everyone interested — things like Tristan’s cheating and Kylie’s pregnancy — are old news.
Right now, the Kardashians are focusing on feuding between Kim and Kourtney. They are grown-ass adult mothers of three each and their feuds aren’t as meme-worthy as they once were.
The Brown family might not be more authentic than the Kardashians, but they’re more relatable and they’re way, way less overexposed.
That, we think, is what’s happening here.

Kourtney Kardashian DESTROYS Kim and Khloe on Twitter After KUWTK Premiere!
Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of fights on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Like, remember the time that Kendall and Kylie fought over a dress and then Kendall told one of Kylie’s dogs “I’m sorry your mom is such a c–t”?
Or the time that Kourtney and Khloe were bickering and Kourtney dropped the epic line “F-ck you, you f-cking pregnant whore“?
Or, to take it way back, remember when Kim bought her very first Bentley and her siblings made fun of her for being so braggy about it, so she attacked Khloe with her purse?
There’s been quite a few classic feuds in this family, and what happened on last night’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians premiere is definitely going to end up on the list.
In the episode, Kim was seen doing the planning for the family’s Christmas card photo shoot, and at one point she complained that she had to reschedule the shoot “so that we can all accomodate Miss Queen Kourtney.”
But Kylie, who was very pregnant at the time, couldn’t make it, and Kendall was busy, and Rob didn’t want to be seen, as usual.
“It’s just like craziness,” Kim explained. “So I thought, ‘Why not show the craziness of our family?"”
She decided that they’d all do individual pictures to share throughout the month, and that’s what ended up happening — the edited together the final version with most of the family.
And although Kylie and Rob didn’t do photos for the Christmas card at all, Kim went after Kourtney.
“No one wants you in the f-cking shoot,” she told her. “I’m planning it. I’m planning the shoot, so we don’t want you in the shoot.”
Kourtney replied that she’d already said she’d do the shoot, but Kim still wasn’t having it.
“Maybe if you had a f-cking business that you were passionate about then you would know what it takes to run a f-cking business but you don’t, so don’t even act like you know what I’m talking about,” Kim said.
Kourtney didn’t stick around to hear Kim’s mouth any longer, so instead, Kim continued the chat with Khloe and Kris, telling them that Kourtney is “the least exciting to look at,” so she didn’t have to be on the Christmas card.
“She doesn’t do sh-t,” she complained. “She doesn’t know what it’s like to actually have f-cking work to do.”
And then, because that wasn’t enough drama already, Kourtney called Khloe while she was still with Kim, and Khloe put her on speakerphone.
“I’m not here to f-cking be mistreated by my f-cking bitch family,” Kourtney said through tears. “Kim saying that I’m the least interesting to look at … who even speaks like that?”
Kim didn’t answer that question, but she did tell her big sister “You do whatever the f-ck you want to do and you don’t do sh-t. So be accommodating to the people that actually do sh-t.”
And Kourtney delivered a line that will surely go down as one of the best in KUWTK history:
“You’re a very distraught, evil human being … I don’t agree with who you are as a human being.”
Later, Kim tried to make things right between them by inviting her to her baby shower for precious little Chicago, but Kourtney turned down her invitation.
After that, Kim said that she’d “really hoped Kourtney was gonna get over herself and just show up, but she didn’t. So I don’t think she’s big on family ‘cause if she was, she would be at my shower.”
So it’s clear that the feud is not over yet.
We’re sure to see more sister fighting this season, but as a special treat, we saw quite a bit of it last night on Twitter as the episode aired!
Kourtney, Kim, and Khloe all tweeted during the show, and when her big fight with Kim started, Kourtney wrote “Watching this fight actually gives me chills.”
“It’s not normal to have to relive this stuff,” she added.
Then she tweeted “We all have our own priorities. Mine is being a mother.”
And Kim did not appreciate that one bit.
“And mine is not?” she asked. “The shoot was with our kids!!!!! My #1 priority is being a mother as well and I can work too, so can you!”
Kourtney told her that she does work, “But i wasn’t wanting MORE work, i already felt spread thin. Being a good mother also has different meaning to each of us.”
“You’re an amazing mother,” she added, “I’m not taking that away from you.”
But then Khloe jumped into her own argument with Kourtney … or Kourtney dragged her in, rather.
Someone asked Khloe whose side she was on in the Christmas card feud, and she claimed that she “just wanted peace,” to which Kourtney tweeted “Khloe let’s be honest here.”
“What the f-ck does that mean??” Khloe asked. “I didn’t want peace??”
After stewing for a moment, she asked Kourtney if she was “for real,” and she also asked “Do we want to get into why all of us were frustrated with you? You want to do this on twitter?”
“Please explain when I ever jumped in on that situation. I’m the one who f-cking called you to make sure you were good.”
A little later, when Kourtney hadn’t responded, Khloe tweeted her again and asked “Are you watching the same episode I am??? Do you think I was picking on you?”
“I was genuinely concerned about your happiness. Stop looping me into your drama with Kim! Don’t ever tweet me that sh-t again!”
At one point during that absolute mess of an episode, Kourtney tweeted that she and her sisters are “ride or die,” but “I don’t accept the way we criticize and judge each other anymore. My personal growth doesn’t allow it.”
Kim agreed, writing “Don’t ever get it twisted, me, Kourtney and Khloe are GOOD! ALWAYS!!!! Never question that!”
But then Khloe said that “I was going to ask kourt to workout with me tomorrow but she may throw a dumbbell at my head lol,” so while they obviously still love each other, the fighting may still be happening.
Or, since pretty much all of these tweets ended with a “KUWTK” hashtag, there’s also a very good chance that they’re not fighting at all, they never really were, and Kris Jenner is just going hard for those ratings.
Guess we’ll just have to wait until next week to figure it all out!

The Bachelorette Season Premiere Recap: Let"s Do The Damn Thing!
It’s that time of year again, people!
The Bachelorette is officially back, baby (and The Bachelorette spoilers have already told us who wins, but that’s another story)!
For real, do not follow the above link if you don’t want to know how it plays out for Becca Kufrin and … ooh, that was a close one.
Almost gave it away. Wowza.
Anyway, about Monday night …
Whether you’re a Bachelorette spoilers addicted fiend or opt to remain in suspense as to who Becca picks, this much is 100% clear:
1. She’s smoking hot;
2. The guys love her;
3. It’s gonna be bonkers this season as the runner-up from this winter’s The Bachelor season is already driving the competition crazy.
If you watch The Bachelor online, you will already know that Becca has already had a shot at love on reality TV. She was romanced by Arie Luyendyk Jr. and was even engaged to him.
But Arie had a change of heart, called off their engagement and started a relationship with runner-up Lauren Burnham.
It was a horrible chain of events, but it was clear Becca rebounded quickly when she was announced as the new Bachelorette. In fact, it probably worked out better for her.
When the episode kicked off, we learned that Becca was not about to let that loser Arie ruin her time in front of the reality TV cameras.
“I’m just, like, your normal average girl,” she says. “All I did was get my heart broken on TV.”
Becca was joined by former The Bachelorette women JoJo Fletcher, Kaitlyn Bristowe and Rachel Lindsay who had a grand old chat about the highs and lows of finding love on TV.
“Please don’t edit this out: fuck him,” Rachel said of Arie when she got some screen time, before proceeding to sage the mansion.
Oh yes, Rachel is holding nothing back, and that’s why we loved her so much on her season.
“As women, we do a better a job of it,” Jojo tells the camera when she is asked whether the women are better at picking the men.
“Women are more intuitive. They know what they want,” she continued.
With the sheer amount of men emerging from the limousines at the lavish mansion, it was clear they were all trying to do their best to make a big first impression.
FYI: Lindsay, Fletcher, and Bristowe all picked the same person who won the first impression rose to win the game, so they’re kind of a big deal.
There was a fake proposal, a cardboard cutout of Arie, and even a choir. Even after all these years, the men are really bringing it with the entrances.
Our pick for the best first impression has got to be David. He emerged from the limo in a chicken suit and said the following:
“I’m not here to ruffle feathers.”
If that’s not a winning line, then we don’t know what is.
There was also one contestant who got sent home very early. The reason?
She knew him through friends back in Minnesota, and said that “honestly I don’t think he’s here for me.”
If Becca wanted to prove anything, it was that she was not messing around this time … and that’s what made the rose ceremony, so fun to watch.
Chris went out of his way early in the episode to say that Chase came on to the show for all of the wrong reasons.
We don’t know where Chris gets the right to speak to people he’s known for a matter of hours like that, but he did.
In any case, Becca actually agreed with Chris and sent Chase packing. If Chris was here to play a strategic game to take out all of the bigger players by planting seeds of doubt in Becca’s mind, he succeeded.
Kamil, Joe, Darius, Grant, and Christian were also given the pink slip, and that meant there were 21 people left in the competition for Becca’s heart.
As for who actually got the first impression rose, it went to Garrett, a 29-year-old who showed up at the mansion in a minivan.
Maybe he was trying to show Becca that he didn’t need a limo to make an entrance. We’re not so sure, but Becca seemed smitten with him.
What did you think of the premiere?
Did the right people go home? Is there a future for Becca and Garrett?

Chris Harrison Teases "Most Ridiculous Fight" in History on Bachelorette Premiere
DING! DING! DING!
According to Chris Harrison, it is about to be on next Monday night.
Between whom? This is the question we’re now left to ponder.
Earlier this week, the reality show host with the absolute most stopped and talked to Entertainment Tonight about the May 28 premiere of The Bachelorette.
It will kick off at 8/7c on ABC, but it sounds as if we ought to say the show will PUNCH off instead.
Just consider how Harrison teased the premiere in his chat with the aforementioned gossip and news outlet:
“Maybe the most ridiculous fight you’ve ever seen in the history of our show, which is saying a lot.
It’s just magnificent to watch.
“It’s going to be one of those [seasons where] you’re watching through your fingers because you’re embarrassed for everybody involved, but you can’t stop watching.”
Now THAT’S what we call a tease.
Is it any wonder Chris Harrison is the very best at what he does?
While recent The Bachelorette spoilers have actually revealed the final four men chosen by Becca Kufrin, ABC announced the FULL list of all 28 suitors on Thursday.
We’ve posted their official portraits above and referenced their official occupations.
There are multiple football players… one sports analyst… a guy who plays the banjo… and some dude who says he’s a social media participant.
We somehow doubt the latter is involved in this fight.
“The arrivals are great because, for the guys, it’s very much out of our comfort zone to make these grand entrances,” Harrison also said of the premiere, adding:
“We make fools of ourselves, that’s what we do. And some of these guys do just that.”
Kufrin, of course, has quite the backstory when it comes to this franchise.
She was proposed to by Arie on the season finale of the latest Bachelor season — and then dumped by Arie on the After the Rose Special.
Becca responded in that moment the same way anyone in her situation would respond (Are you f-cking kidding me, she asked Arie many times), but has since handled the public break-up with maturity and grace.
“He’s a good person, I don’t think he’s a monster and purposely did this to hurt me and make me feel this way,” Kurfin told People Magazine shortly after The Bachelor season concluded, adding at the time:
“I don’t think he thought it through, but I don’t think he did it maliciously to break my heart.”
Whatever.
The guy seems like a giant douchebag in our opinion.
But Arie is the past and one of the 28 men featured above is the future.
“Let’s do the damn thing,” Kufrin excitedly says in the following Bachelorette preview, making it clear that she’s ready to move on.
And if she’s ready to move on, so we are. Let’s do the damn thing indeed!
Check out the fun teaser now:
