Straight Outta Compton: SNUBBED in All Major Oscar Categories!

This morning, the 2016 Academy Award nominations were announced, and many movie-lovers and industry insiders alike were surprised to see the critically-adored NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton missing from the roll in every major category.

Straight Outta Compton

Despite being considered a shoo-in by prognosticators, the film was snubbed for Best Picture (even though the Academy only nominated 8 out of a possible 10 films), and the acclaimed work of director F. Gary Gray and star O’Shea Jackson, Jr. was overlooked by voters.

Compton did receive one nomination – for Best Original Screenplay – but it’s worth noting that neither of the film’s principle screenwriters is black, which has resulted in criticism that the Academy has once again “white-washed” Hollywood’s biggest night.

The lack of diversity amongst Oscar nominees has been an issue for decades, but with nominations for 12 Years a Slave in 2014 and Selma in 2015, the notoriously archaic Academy seemed to be very slowly moving in a more inclusive direction.

Now, many fear that by all but ignoring one of the most popular films with a mostly-black cast in film history, Oscar voters may have squandered any goodwill they’d accumulated with the average movie-goer in recent years.

Fortunately, Straight Outta Compton remains proof positive that audiences of all colors will turn out en masse for a quality film about the struggles of minorities in America.

And in Hollywood, green will always trump gold.

Rob Kardashian: Talked Into Getting Gastric Bypass Surgery?

Yesterday, Khloe Kardashian gave an interview in which she revealed that after weeks of ignoring his diabetes diagnosis, Rob Kardashian is finally taking his health seriously.

She didn’t go into specifics, and sources say Rob is still refusing rehab, but apparently according to Radar Online, the troubled 28-year-old is taking his family’s advice in one respect.

Rumors of Rob undergoing gastric bypass surgery have been circulating for months, but insiders say it took this latest health scare – plus some cajoling from Kris Jenner – to convince him to undergo the procedure.

“Kris told him it’s time to take action – she wants him to have gastric bypass or gastric banding surgery,” a source close to the situation tells Radar.

“Kris has already booked an appointment for a long consultation with LA’s leading bypass surgeon, and Rob has agreed to go. He knows this is his only option right now.”

Well, it’s not his only option, but since Rob has repeatedly refused to work with nutritionists and personal trainers, it may be his best option at this point.

The surgery would likely mean that Rob will be lying low for several more months, but once he’s recovered, he may finally be ready to make that long-awaited comeback.

Gwen Stefani & Blake Shelton: Expecting a Girl, Sources Claim

It’s been less than three months since we first learned that Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are dating, but if the rumors are to be believed, the couple is moving extremely fast.

We’ve already heard reports that Gwen is pregnant with Blake’s baby, now the same tabloids are spilling the specifics about the forthcoming bundle of joy.

According to In Touch, Gwen believes she’s having a girl.

It’s obviously far too early in this made-up pregnancy to know for sure, but insiders say Gwen is convinced she’s got an imaginary daughter on the way.

“Blake is going to spoil her like crazy. Whatever she wants, she will get,” says one insider.

“He’s so generous with his siblings and nieces and nephews, you can only imagine what he’ll be like with his own little girl. She will have Blake wrapped around her little finger.”

The source claims that Blake and Gwen are waiting until the end of her third trimester to make an announcement, at which point, they’ll ride a rocket unicorn to the moon and return 6 months later with a gold-voiced angel baby.

Was that too subtle? We’re saying we don’t really believe Gwen is pregnant. If she is, however, that kid will have some pipes!
