The Voice Recap: One Final Steal

There was one steal left up for grabs during the Knockout Rounds, but who was the lucky victor?

Let’s break down the latest performances…

Team Miley: Brooke Simpson vs. Stephan Marcellus

Brooke went with Aretha Franklin’s “Natural Woman” and it was a delight. She put her own fresh and exciting spin on the hit song, and proved that she is still improving with every stage of the competition.

Stephan went with “Impossible” by Shontelle and he struggled to emerge from Brooke’s shadow. Had he been up against one of the weaker competitors, he would have won.

Brooke emerged with the win and Stephan was sent home.

Team Blake: Anna Catherine DeHart vs. Mitchell Lee

Anna went with Faith Hill’s “Breathe” and it was a surprisingly dull number. Anna’s performances have been up there as some of the best, but her song choice was way off during the Knockout Rounds.

Mitchell came out much better with his rendition of Edwin McCain’s “I’ll Be.” Everything about it was flawless, and it would have been a travesty if he did not get through.

His pitch and vocals were on point. He secured a win, while Anna was sent home.

Team Jennifer: Jeremiah Miller vs. Noah Mac

Jeremiah went with Justin Bieber’s “Sorry.” It was all over the place, to say the least. It was the worst song choice and proved that Justin Bieber songs should probably be banned from the competition.

It was hands down Jeremiah’s worst performance of the season and part of that was down to it sounding nasally. What went wrong?!

Noah went with “Hold Back the River” by James Bay. It was a surprisingly solid number. Noah put a great spin on the song and when benchmarked with Jeremiah, it was clear who was winning.

Jeremiah was sent home!

Team Blake: Kathrina Feigh vs. Keisha Renee

This knockout was a tough one. Kathrina went with Alicia Keys’ “Girl on Fire” and it was a beautiful performance that showed off Kathrina’s vocal range.

She sounded like a recording artist you would hear on the radio today.

Keisha went with Lee Ann Womack’s “I Hope You Dance.” That was another solid performance, and it was really difficult to tell both of the performances apart. They were that good!

In the end, Keisha was saved, and Kathrina was sent home.

Team Miley: Moriah Formica vs. Whitney Fenimore

Moriah went with “Behind These Hazel Eyes” which she got to sing in front of Kelly Clarkson herself. Surely, there should be some sort of stipulation against that!

The performance is interesting because it seems like it’s trying to be two very different tones, and it certainly makes us wonder what she’s trying to do.

Whitney went with Train’s “Calling All Angels.” It was decent, but not quite up there with Moriah’s. Whitney’s vocal range is not quite up there with Moriah’s.

Moriah won the round and Whitney was sent home.

Team Adam: Adam Pearce vs. Emily Luther

Adam went with Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water.” If anything, it showed just how many high notes Adam can hit in one song. But, hitting high notes is different from being an engaging performer.

Emily went with Pink’s “Glitter in the Air.” It sounded similar to the original song, and that’s a good thing. Emily secured a win from Adam, but Miley offered to steal Adam because she was taken by his voice.

What did you think of all the performances?
