Adele Opens Up About Postpartum Depression, Binge Drinking

Adele is one of those celebrities who generally keeps her personal life very private.

She’s got one of the best voices on the planet and is one of the most relatable celebrities out there.

The 28-year-old is currently touring North America as part of her world tour in support of her album, “25.”

The star opened up in the December issue of Vanity Fair about her personal life and what it’s like to live in the spotlight.

One of the things that came up was Adele chatting about her having postpartum depression.

“I had really bad postpartum depression after I had my son, and it frightened me,” she tells the magazine.

“One day I said to a friend, ‘I f**kin’ hate this,’ and she just burst into tears and said, ‘I f**kin’ hate this, too.’ And it was done. It lifted,” she explains.

“My knowledge of postpartum—or post-natal, as we call it in England—is that you don’t want to be with your child; you’re worried you might hurt your child; you’re worried you weren’t doing a good job,” Adele says.

“But I was obsessed with my child. I felt very inadequate; I felt like I’d made the worst decision of my life. It can come in many different forms. Eventually I just said, I’m going to give myself an afternoon a week, just to do whatever the f**k I want without my baby. A friend of mine said, ‘Really? Don’t you feel bad?’ I said, I do, but not as bad as I’d feel if I didn’t do it.”

Adele also chatted about what made her cut back on drinking alcohol.

“Having a hangover with a child is torture,” she says, referring to herself as once a “massive drinker.”

“Just imagine an annoying three-year-old who knows something’s wrong; it’s hell,” the global superstar adds.

“I used to love to be drunk, but as I got more famous I would wake up the next morning and think, What the f**k did I say and who the f**k did I say it to?” Adele recalls.

“I can see from an outsider’s perspective that I will never write songs as good as the ones that are on 21, but I’m not as indulgent as I was then, and I don’t have time to fall apart like I did then. I was completely off my face writing that album, and a drunk tongue is an honest one.”

“I would drink two bottles of wine, and I would chain-smoke. Then I’d write the lyrics down and the next morning think, F**k, that’s quite good. Then I’d find the melody. But since I’ve had my baby, I’m not as carefree as I used to be.”

However, with things changing over the past few years, Adele may not be rushing to expand on her family.

“I think it’s the bravest thing not to have a child; all my friends and I felt pressurized into having kids, because that’s what adults do,” she says.

“I love my son more than anything,” Adele insists,”but on a daily basis, if I have a minute or two, I wish I could do whatever the f**k I wanted, whenever I want. Every single day I feel like that.”

“I’ve always been pretty melancholy,” she explains.

“Obviously not as much in my real life as the songs are, but I have a very dark side. I’m very available to depression. I can slip in and out of it quite easily,” she shares.

“It started when my granddad died when I was about 10, and while I never had a suicidal thought, I have been in therapy, lots. But, I haven’t had that feeling since I had my son and snapped out of my postpartum depression.”

Postpartum must be a scary thing for any mother to go through.

Gilmore Girls Promo: Global Binge Alert!

Perhaps you"ve heard, but Gilmore Girls is coming to Netflix.

We"re kidding. If you have a computer, you"ve definitely heard that Gilmore Girls is coming to Netflix.

Heck, if you are a living and breathing human being, you"ve definitely heard that Gilmore Girls is coming to Netflix.

And now Lauren Graham is here to drive the exciting point home.

Early Tuesday, the streaming service got an assist from Graham in revealing that all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls will become available to stream globally on Friday, July 1.

Yes, you will soon be able to watch Gilmore Girls online ahead of brand new episodes airing.

The beloved series ran from 2000 through 2007 and it will give way Gilmore Girls: A Year In the Life this fall.

As previously announced, this Gilmore Girls revival will bring back every member of the main cast and will be comprised of four lengthy episodes, each one taking place in a specific season.

In this promo, Graham is seen in front of the town’s signature gazebo (or, you know, a green sceen) as she urges both newcomers and veteran fans to binge-watch all 153 Gilmore episodes prior to the four-part revival.

Her plea, however, comes with a warning. It"s an important one:

“Careful: We talk fast.”

HA! They really do…

Brock Turner Blames Sexual Assault on "Binge Drinking and Sexual Promiscuity"

A statement Brock Turner submitted in court last week has been made public.

Turner is the 20-year old former Stanford University student who was convicted on three felony counts of sexual assault and whose case has gone viral over the past several days.

The case has been making news because Judge Aaron Persky only sentenced Turner to six months in county jail, a punishment deemed far too lenient by endless critics on the Internet.

Following the surprising sentencing, Turner’s unnamed victim stood in court and read a moving statement, detailing how profoundly Turner’s actions have affected her life.

The ex-swimmer was convicted of digitally raping his unconscious victim near a dumpster outside a party early last year.

Watch the following video in order to hear the victim’s full statement:

Turner’s father also released a controversial statement of his own after the verdict was reached, explaining why his son should not spend a single day behind bars.

Now, The Guardian has published Turner’s own official statement.

This is part of what he wrote to the judge last week:

The night of January 17th changed my life and the lives of everyone involved forever.

I can never go back to being the person I was before that day. I am no longer a swimmer, a student, a resident of California, or the product of the work that I put in to accomplish the goals that I set out in the first 19 years of my life.

I’ve lost two jobs solely based on the reporting of my case. I wish I never was good at swimming or had the opportunity to attend Stanford, so maybe the newspapers wouldn’t want to write stories about me.

Wow.

Turner doesn’t seem to understand that newspapers have written stories about him BECAUSE HE RAPED SOMEONE and got off with scarcely any punishment at all.

Not because he was very good at swimming.

In the lengthy letter, Turner mentioned the victim’s suffering. He continued:

I can never forgive myself for imposing trauma and pain on [redacted]. It debilitates me to think that my actions have caused her emotional and physical stress that is completely unwarranted and unfair.

During the day, I shake uncontrollably from the amount I torment myself by thinking about what has happened.

Turner went on to say that he should not spend time in jail because he can make a positive impact as a free man instead.

I know I can impact and change people’s attitudes towards the culture surrounded by binge drinking and sexual promiscuity that protrudes through what people think is at the core of being a college student.

I want to demolish the assumption that drinking and partying are what make up a college lifestyle. I made a mistake, I drank too much, and my decisions hurt someone.

There are times here when Turner seems contrite. Because he probably is in many ways.

But there are also far too many times when he blames his actions on drinking and still fails to grasp the concept that he sexually violated an unconscious woman.

This is not our opinion. This is a verdict handed down by a court.

The idea that he thinks he has something to teach others about “binge drinking and promiscuity” and nothing more is appalling.
