Joyce Beatty Trolls Melania Trump at Democratic National Convention
We’re starting to feel a little bad for Melania Trump.
The third wife of Donald Trump has found herself under a critical spotlight over the past several days following a controversial Republican National Convention speech.
It focused on important topics such as family values and the life lessons parents ought to teach their children.
But it also, admittedly, plagiarized passages from Michelle Obama’s speech at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Then, Trump removed her official website from the Internet after questions arose over a college degree she claimed to have earned in Slovenia… despite there being no proof that this actually took place.
On Thursday night, meanwhile, a heretofore unknown Congresswoman from Ohio used the DNC stage to throw a bit of shade at Melania Trump.
Once folks got over the whole stealing-from-Michelle-Obama thing, they turned their focus to the dress Trump donned during her speech.
So much so that the $ 2,190 off-white Roksanda “Margot” ensemble sold out less than an hour after Trump appeared on television last week.
Fast forward to last night and Rep. Beatty (D-Ohio) coming out on stage at the Wells Fargo Arena, apparently proving to the world that she was one of the lucky few people to get her hands on the outfit.
Talk about a subtle, slick way to troll Trump, huh?
Beatty wouldn’t come right out and admit she was sending Melania a message, however.
She blamed the entire thing on her husband, telling WCMH that he had bought the dress and told her to wear it.
“Now it’s blowing up all over the nation that it’s the same as Mrs. Trump’s, but I don’t know,” she said.
She does, however, know how she feels about Donald Trump.
During her remarks, Beatty called him “the most divisive and ill-prepared candidate we’ve seen in modern times.”
Katy Perry Roars, Rises at Democratic National Convention
Katy Perry didn"t need a colorful wig or revealing outfit to garner a lot of attention on Thursday night at the Democratic National Convention.
The artist, who has been one of the most outspoken famous supporters of Hillary Clinton for months now, took to the stage in Philadelphia and first gave a brief, passionate speech.
"Both my parents are pastors and staunch Republicans," she said, adding:
"I didn’t finish high school. Unfortunately, I don’t have a formal education, but I do have an open mind and I have a voice.”
(NOTE: It"s true about her parents. They aren"t the biggest fans of their own daughter.)
Perry continued:
"I’m asking you to have an open mind, and to use your voice, because on November 8th, you’ll be just as powerful as any NRA lobbyist.
"You’ll have as much say as any billionaire, or you can cancel out your weird cousin’s vote.
"Here’s how I’m going to use my voice: I’m going to vote for Hillary Clinton. I love Hillary."
Perry and Clinton actually met up back during a book tour in 2014, with the beloved pop singer writing on Instagram afterward:
"I told @hillaryclinton that I would write her a ‘theme’ song if she needs it…"
Last year, Perry was there when Clinton celebrated her birthday, as the two teamed up for a campaign event in Iowa.
On Thursday, meanwhile, Perry concluded her remarks and then performed in front of the thousands inside Wells Fargo Arena and the millions watching at home.
She debuted the song "Rise" in public and she also broke into a rendition of her classic, "Roar."
Perry was just one of numerous of musicians to sing during the DNC this week.
On Monday night, Demi Lovato gave a speech and performed at the convention on Monday, while Alicia Keys, Andra Day and Lenny Kravitz have all provided live entertainment as well.
