Vanessa Grimaldi and Nick Viall Dismiss Critics, Insist They Really Are Happy

Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimadli are tuning out critics after a widely panned debut as a couple on The Bachelor: After the Final Rose special.

As The Bachelor spoilers predicted, Nick proposed, she said yes … and predictions of their imminent demise also didn’t look far off.

Suffice it to say, alumni of Bachelor Nation and fans alike were far from confident in Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi‘s future Monday.

Past stars from Sean Lowe and Catherine Guidici to J.P. Rosenbaum and Trista Sutter all took to social media to voice their skepticism.

Typically you’d see a united front, with the alumni rallying around the couple, but Viall and Grimaldi’s interaction was just that awkward.

Yet despite the negative commentary from critics doubting their love for one another, the couple are focusing on the positive together.

“You can never make people happy. At the end of the day, we are focusing on our relationship,” said Grimaldi, a special ed teacher.

“It’s so easy to focus on the negative, which sometimes I do, and Nick tries to get me out of it. But it’s the world that we’re living in.”

The duo admitted that it’s been a struggle up to this point, and that they are ready to live life together without ABC TV cameras rolling.

“I was excited for it to end, but now I am sad,” Grimaldi said.

“I mean, I’m excited for us to start our real life together.”

(NOTE: Why is she sad about it then? This is confusing.)

“She’s very much looking forward for this to be over,” Viall added, admitting, “It was very difficult for us as a couple at the end.”

While the pair are engaged, they recognize that they “have a long way to go” and “are getting to know each other” these days.

“I don’t think any relationship is perfect,” said Vanessa.

Definitely not, but most Bachelor and Bachelorette couples come out of the finale looking a bit more optimistic than these two lovebirds.

“I hope we came across as in love and passionate tonight,” Nick said, responding to the widespread sentiment that they looked miserable.

“The reality is – we joke about it, but it’s true – we don’t know what it’s like to go to the movies together, to spend time together in the real world.”

“Our relationship has been based off of stressful situations.”

Vanessa, for her part, seconded that notion and said that “I feel like it’s been on standstill for a little bit … I’m ready to move forward.”

How far forward will they move, though?

Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi: How Soon Until They Break Up?!

We wish Nick Viall and Vanessa Grimaldi the best, but after seeing their palpable lack of chemistry after The Bachelor finale last night.

It’s no wonder that many members of Bachelor Nation were sticking a fork in the engaged couple’s relationship within about 45 minutes.

Just as The Bachelor spoilers told us would happen for months, Viall got down on one knee and proposed to Grimaldi, who said yes.

Viall said what fans were thinking the moment he locked eyes with the Canadian special ed teacher for the first time: “Wow. That’s a keeper.”

“I think most people who get engaged, there’s a lot of great, exciting anticipation and for me that was a very emotional roller coaster.”

“Once I saw Vanessa, I kind of calmed my nerves. It was that moment where I had clarity, … a feeling of knowing I made the right decision.”

“It was all worth it! All the tears and all the ups and downs, it kind of just felt like, finally I got to the place that I hoped to get to.”

“While I certainly had my fears, I still followed my heart and put myself at risk … I’m glad I did. This one right here, she made it easy.”

The easy part is over, though, and now comes the hard part – real life, as the couple is forced to exist in a world outside of The Bachelor.

Let’s just say their debut didn’t fill fans with confidence.

There was nothing easy about watching the engaged couple’s awkward interactions during The Bachelor: After the Final Rose special.

Many franchise alums and fans alike live-tweeted the show and several expressed skepticism when it came to the duo’s future together.

Former Bachelor Sean Lowe hilariously wrote, “What’s the winner going to do with her time this summer while Nick is filming BIP?”

Nick, of course, was on Bachelor in Paradise last year.

Sean’s wife Catherine Giudici said that “This is so real it’s kinda depressing,” while Bachelor alumna Jade Roper Tolbert added:

“The vibe of the whole room at After the Final Rose right now is so serious and strange feeling. No? #TheBachelorFinale”

J.P. Rosenbaum, who won Ashley Hebert’s season of The Bachelorette and later married her, tweeted, “Wtf is going on?”

“This is all making me very uncomfortable. #fakenews?”

Trista Sutter, the OG Bachelorette star, had this to say:

“I am always hopeful for happy endings, especially when it comes to my #bachelornation family, but @VanessaGrimaldi doesn’t seem happy?”

Viewers at home were equally weirded out by it all.

Nick and Vanessa’s palpable lack of chemistry made one fan write, “I can only hope that one day me and my fiancé look exactly like this.”

Another was in tears … LOLing: “I literally can’t stop laughing they hate each other so much #TheBachelorFinale #AfterTheFinalRose”

“Honestly watching Nick sitting next to Raven, the girl he publically dumped, was less awkward than him with Vanessa,” added another.

(Raven Gates is headed to Paradise, incidentally.)

One viewer remarked that Nick and Vanessa’s interview “reminds me of when Katniss and Peeta had to pretend they were in love on TV.”

“If you look up miserable in the dictionary I’m pretty sure this would be the picture,” added another, with this hilarious side-by-side pic:

Plenty of fans were on Team Raven Gates, Nick’s runner-up who conducted herself with such class … and maybe have dodged a bullet.

One wrote, in reference to her final quote: “Nick: ‘I’m gonna miss you.’ Raven: ‘I know.’ He looks devastated, and she is glowing. Atta girl #teamraven”

Raven, another Twitter user weighed in, “is happier being dumped than Vanessa is engaged #TheBachelor #TheBachelorFinale”

Maybe we’re reading too much into this, though.

It was, after all, one sit-down, in an unusual (and live) situation. But you have to admit, the vibe in that room was far from upbeat last night.

When they discussed the possibility of marriage, calling them “cautiously optimistic” would be the best possible spin you could put on it.

Next up for the obviously over-the-moon couple?

Viall is set to appear on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars with Peta Murgatroyd, while Vanessa moves to L.A. which she doesn’t want to do.

Awesome! Tell us how this is going to play out:

Vanessa Grimaldi Moves Nick Viall, Family to Tears on The Bachelor

"I have never been proposed to, I"ve never been engaged. I take this very seriously." – Vanessa Grimaldi to Bachelor Nick Viall"s family

While The Bachelor spoilers have shed plenty of light on Nick"s journey so far, you don"t need any inside scoop to tell you this much:

Things get emotional by this point in every season.

Viall"s final pair of contenders, Raven Gates and Vanessa Grimaldi, are headed on home to Wisconsin to spend time with Nick"s family.

If things weren"t getting real before, they are now.

In the sneak preview clip below, fans get an early glimpse of just how open Vanessa is with Nick"s parents, and how they react to her.

Spoiler alert: She is a big, big hit with them.

"I have never been proposed to, I"ve never been engaged, so I take this very seriously," Grimaldi tells Nick"s dad, adding that she loves Viall.

Grimaldi is as sweet as they come, and when his father asks "love is enough" … the waterworks are turned on, and turned up in a hurry.

Guess we know where Nick gets it; Viall"s dad is not afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve and let the tears flow on camera, either.

As for whether Nick proposes to Grimaldi or Gates, and whether the lucky recipient of the Neil Lane engagement ring accepts the thing?

That much remains to be seen.

On last week"s penultimate episode, Viall and Grimaldi had what she described as "heavy" discussions over their potential future together.

She"s from Canada, while Viall lives in Los Angeles, making the prospect of building a life together daunting, all of their chemistry aside.

When Vanessa asked Nick to move to Canada, hypothetically, his response was lukewarm at best (a proud American, dude … really?).

Many have speculated that Nick has been bitten by the fame bug and is doomed to fail with whomever he gives the final rose to Monday.

They may be short-changing him.

While there"s no doubt Nick loves attention, she"s also been open about trying to find love like he"s never felt before – even if it scares him.

That"s as real as it gets, people.

At the show"s Women Tell All taping, Viall teased that the finale "dramatic," and would only say that he is "maybe" engaged right now.

We"ve been promised a Bachelor first on the finale, which some have speculated to mean he is already married, or may wed on TV.

We"ll find out soon enough whether the 36-year-old Nick chooses Grimaldi or Raven Gates, and what the status of their romance is.

In the meantime, watch the clip:

Vanessa Grimaldi Poses with Wedding Dresses, Roils Bachelor Nation

Looks like The Bachelor spoilers may have nailed it again.

Top contender Vanessa Grimaldi sure caused a stir on Monday when she advanced to the final two on the popular ABC reality show …

… and went wedding dress shopping in real life.

Vanessa posed for a photo at Le Chateau in Montreal, the Quebec metropolis where she lives, with creative coordinator Holly Wiancko.

Racks of wedding and bridesmaids dresses flanked the cute pair, stirring up obvious speculation as to whether she wins The Bachelor

“A good way to end the week at the office! #thebachelor,” Wiancko captioned the photo on her Instagram, which quickly went viral.

Did Vanessa and her friend just reveal the biggest Bachelor spoilers since Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Snapchatted in bed with Shawn Booth?

The explanation they’re going with is … not exactly.

Sources connected to Le Chateau tell TMZ that the shop invited Vanessa to check out their new line and to discuss a potential partnership.

In other words, it’s not personal, just business.

Vanessa is a beautiful young woman who is now incredibly visible thanks to the show, so of course the boutique would love her involvement.

Win or lose at the final rose ceremony, Le Chateau would clearly win by having the gorgeous special education teacher in their corner.

Grimaldi didn’t try on anything from the bridal section, though we’re guessing that if Nick Viall does propose, they would not be opposed.

Le Chateau also posted another pic of her.

Wearing a cute pink sweater on March 6, the caption wrote: “#spotted @vanessagrimaldi30 lounging in our ribbed crew neck sweater.”

“Shop link in bio. #regram #thebachelor.”

Last night, The Bachelor confirmed what we pretty much expected, as Nick Viall set Rachel Lindsay free to become the next Bachelorette.

As such, Raven Gates and Vanessa are the final two ladies vying for Nick’s final rose and a Neil Lane engagement ring next Monday.

Vanessa, the trilingual, traditional, family oriented, far-too-normal-for-this-process educator has been perhaps the favorite all along.

Many people believed she would outlast both Rachel and Arkansas boutique owner Raven even before the wedding dress picture.

Despite the believable explanation – she was just in a store she might work with soon, calm the heck down – some fans remain upset.

“You just ruined the whole show,” complained one fan, unaware that spoilers are a thing and assuming she’s The Bachelor winner.

“WTF spoiler alert!” added another.

Another Bachelor fan took the over-dramatic reaction cake, however, responding the Instagram photo above with these four words:

“I want to die.”

Apparently that fan must be a card-carrying member of Hoxie Nation and pulling hard for Raven Gates to capture Nick’s final rose in six nights.

All we can tell you for sure is this: Vanessa hasn’t won the show until she wins the show, and even then, weddings are far from a guarantee.

The franchise’s track record has improved in recent years, but that bar was set very low, and actual marriages are still a rare occurrence.

Just saying.

Vanessa Grimaldi to Nick Viall: So, You Moving to Canada?

This season, The Bachelor spoilers have been as dead-on correct as ever, but there are still two installments left for a potential shocker.

Might one of the final three be ready to throw such a curveball?

Canadian beauty Vanessa Grimaldi puts the screws to Nick Viall on next week"s episode of The Bachelor, asking him about the future.

Nick Viall is used to being put on the spot, but not like this.

In the sneak peek at Monday night’s episode below, Viall hedges when the Montreal resident asks if he would consider moving there.

You know, IF they decide to further pursue this romance.

Nick is someone that I can actually picture spending the rest of my life with,” Vanessa, 29, says, but he"s also Nick, and it"s The Bachelor.

Do we even need to explain any further than that?

“But at the same time," the special ed teacher adds, "we have that sort of relationship where our conversations are always so heavy."

"Today I felt like Nick was questioning whether or not he wants to be as close to my family as I am. It’s been upsetting me.”

During Grimaldi’s hometown date – Corinne Olympios got cut, leaving Vanessa, Raven Gates and Rachel Lindsay – Nick met her family.

That"s customary for Bachelor semifinalists, but what"s a little unusual is that subject of where they would move after the show came up.

It didn’t seem as if the two had discussed their plans post-Bachelor, so Vanessa brought it up during their subsequent fantasy suite date.

That idea didn"t necessarily go over all that well.

“Is there anything that you would feel uncomfortable compromising on?” she ask. “Is moving for you something you don’t see yourself doing?”

“I’ve moved a lot,” Viall, 36, responds. Ouch.

“I’ve never imagined living in Canada," he adds.

"I’ll be honest, that’s not easy for me to picture."

"I hope that’s not a non-negotiable," Nick tells Vanessa, leaving the door open. "I think I would do anything for the woman that I love.”

“Not to sound corny, but I’m really proud to be an American,” The Bachelor star adds, very much sounding corny in the process.

Vanessa"s perfect response to that nonsense?

“And I’m very proud to be a Canadian."

The plot thickens, eh?! (Sorry.)

Vanessa Grimaldi: Nick Viall & I Make the CUTEST Couple!!

Vanessa Grimaldi and Nick Viall. Are they meant to be?

The Bachelor contestant, one of this season’s final four, posted a pair of photos after Monday’s episode that certainly make us believers.

Regardless of whether you believe The Bachelor spoilers or not, how can you not think they’re a perfect pair when she shares this?!

If you watch The Bachelor online, you know how the hometown dates go. All are awkward at times, and emotional, and one girl is cut.

Except this year had a very different feel to it overall.

Not only do we know that The Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay will be eliminated at some point, no one was actually cut on this installment.

Instead … Andi Dorfman returned at the very end.

While it remains to be seen whether Vanessa, Rachel, Corinne Olympios or Raven Gates will go on overnight dates, this much is clear:

Grimaldi is quickly becoming a dark horse favorite.

That may come as a surprise after Vanessa’s hometown date ended in tears as her dad dropped a bombshell on the 29-year-old Canadian.

Before Vanessa’s father gave his blessing, he asked Nick if he asked the same thing of other fathers, and he confessed that he had.

Totally par for The Bachelor course? Honest of Nick?

Yes and yes, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to hear.

Mr. Grimaldi didn’t take it well, and Vanessa, who apparently hadn’t considered the fact that other women are in the running, didn’t either.

When your dad tells you that Nick “likes other people,” as we said, no one’s going to be happy about that, regardless of how they met.

Vanessa was clearly heartbroken and decided she needed to talk to Nick … before the episode-ending cliffhanger involving his ex Andi.

Will Grimaldi take herself out of the running?

Doubtful. With her emotional post on Instagram, Vanessa reminds us that she’s still all in, for Nick’s heart and for the final rose of 2017.

Having seen how close she is with her family, it’s even more obvious why she’s a favorite – a sentiment she expressed about him as well.

It was Nick’s hometown date on Andi’s season, ironically, that sold her on the Wisconsin native (who has 10 siblings), she said recently.

Vanessa previously confessed to Glamour:

“I saw him on Andi’s season when they went to his family’s house for the hometown date, and I just fell in love with how close he is to his family.”

“I come from a very traditional Italian family.”

“I’m very close to mine. He seems real. It was so tempting to research and find out stuff about him before the show,” Vanessa added.

But, she said, she wanted to have an open mind: “I told myself, ‘I’m coming in on a clean slate, so it’s only fair that I do the same for him.’”

Gotta hand it to her for staying true to her word.

After all, she apparently neglected to brush up on the show to the point where the idea of Nick falling for other people was lost on her!

As far as whether she’ll be The Bachelor winner, we’ll have to stay tuned, but we wouldn’t bet against her if forced to pick a favorite.

The hard part, whomever he picks, may come later, as the season continues to play out and real life hits them like a ton of bricks after.

Vanessa Grimaldi: The Bachelor Fan (and Nick) Favorite?

Is Vanessa Grimaldi the dark horse choice to win Nick Viall"s heart on Season 21? The Bachelor spoilers and common sense suggest so.

The cute bilingual special education teacher from Canada had Nick captivated from the get-go, even if others stole a bit of her thunder.

Talking to you, Corinne Olympios.

While plenty of women have formed strong connections with Nick, Vanessa has quietly become one of his favorites, for good reason.

She"s gorgeous, but there"s much more to her. Not one to brag about her "platinum vagine," Grimaldi charms with her mind as well.

What a concept. Check out some photos of her before and during her time on The Bachelor and tell us if you think she"ll win:
