SportsCenter Anchor Sticks Up for the Real Lamar Odom

Lamar Odom is not some reality star.

He is not the product of his marriage to Khloe Kardashian and he was famous long before he ever appeared on E!.

So argues Scott Van Pelt in this perfectly-said clip from SportsCenter, as the anchor takes issue with the recent headlines in the wake of Odom"s tragic hospitalization.

Odom earned his fame, Van Pelt says, he did not become a celebrity due to an "absence of accomplishment," which is a clear and valid shot and Kim Kardashian and her family.

This is someone who has traveled an "unspeakably difficult road" and who is now fighting for his life inside a Las Vegas hospital. He"s a real person with an actual name, not merely a former co-star on a popular reality series.

Lamar Odom Begged Khloe Kardashian to Keep Him Off of KUWTK Just Weeks Before Collapse, Source Claims

As you’ve likely heard by now, Lamar Odom was found unconscious in a VIP suite at the Love Ranch brothel in Nevada on Tuesday night.

As more details have emerged, it’s become clear that Odom was profoundly distressed in the days leading up to his collapse, and many feel that his depression and anxiety were brought about in part by his continued unwanted fame.

Friends and workers at the Love Ranch have stated that they feel Odom’s relapse was triggered by watching Keeping Up With the Kardashians on Sunday night.

The 35-year-old NBA star has struggled with addiction issues throughout his life, but apparently after watching his estranged wife’s reality show, he became noticeably despondent and even more careless than usual with his drug abuse.

Now, sources tell Radar Online that part of the problem may have been that the Kardashian family refused to leave Odom out of their reality show drama.

A source says Lamar recently “pleaded with Khloe to stop having the production crew from KUWTK film their phone conversations. He wanted them to remain private.

“But he was powerless to stop it because Lamar had previously signed off on having phone calls recorded when he was married to Khloe, and part of the show.

“Khloe would either ignore the texts and voice mail messages asking her to stop, or she would tell him, ‘You owe me this after you humiliated me by cheating with other women."”

The source says the combination of Khloe’s relationship with James Harden and her decision to continue featuring conversations with Odom on the show created a tremendous amount of stress for Lamar.

“Lamar had no idea that he was going to be Khloe’s storyline during the past season. She is always talking about how much she loves the guy, but has no problem exploiting Lamar for her gain. How low can Khloe go?

“The Kardashians all have Lamar’s blood on their hands. [They] demonized and exploited him for their stupid show.”

Clearly Lamar’s relationship with Khloe was just one of many factors that led to his current state, but the Kardashians and their popular series may both be the subjects of harsh criticism in the days to come.
