Shocking and tragic news out of the world of television this week:
Amanda Davis, a popular news anchor in Atlanta, died on Wednesday after she suffered a “massive spontaneous stroke” while on the way to to her stepfather’s funeral.
She was 62 years old.
According to local reports, the CBS46 reporter was rushed to a hospital on Tuesday evening due to a medical emergency at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
She passed away the next night.
Davis had only just informed Twitter followers a few hours earlier that her "pops" had died and that his funeral was planned for Wednesday.
Per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she was at the airport and heading to Texas to say farewell when she suffered this fatal stroke.
Her final post on Facebook was shared on Christmas Eve and featured a text graphic about the difficulty of experiencing one"s first Christmas after losing a close friend or relative.
It included the caption: “Stay strong, keep praising the Lord."
Davis had served as a news anchor in Atlanta for more than three decades, having previously worked at FOX5 Atlanta, where she helped launch Good Day Atlanta way back in 1992.
She left that station in 2013 and went to work for a local CBS affiliate, which Tweeted the following in the wake of her passing:
Today we"re taking the time to remember a member of our family, #AmandaDavis, who tragically passed away after suffering a stroke on Tuesday.
If you have a favorite memory, please share them with us.
Davis gained a unique following and formed a close bond with viewers after she opened up about an alcohol addiction in 2016 with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
“It felt good,” she said about her treatment program, adding at the time:
“I had learned a lot and gotten to the underlying issue for the drinking and my depression, which was the loss of that relationship. I was wallowing in that grief and drinking to feel better.”
In the wake of this stunning news, many former and current colleagues took to social media to express their condolences.
For example, CBS46 morning traffic reporter Julie Smith Tweeted:
“In total and complete shock right now. Please pray for comfort and peace for Amanda’s family. They’ve been through a lot & need our prayers.
"Please pray also for all of our @cbs46 family as we deal with the loss of our colleague & friend. Rest In Peace Amanda.”

Phil Robertson to "Reject Political Correctness," Anchor New Show
About a year after Duck Dynasty went off the air, Phil Robertson is set to make his return to the small screen.
But he isn’t plotting his comeback by himself.
He’s bringing his firestorm of controversial opinions with him!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the reality star some have dubbed Redneck Dumbledore has landed his own show on CRTV.
This is a $ 99-a-year digital network whose most popular programs are hosted by conservative commentators Mark Levin, Steven Crowder and Michelle Malkin.
Robertson’s series will be titled In the Woods With Phil and he explains why in a sneak peek from one of the installments.
“What does a man do when they try to run him out of town for quoting a Bible verse?” Robertson asks. “I tell you what he does; he goes deep in the woods.
Robertson, of course, has quite a history of speaking his mind.
The ex-Duck Dynasty patriarch was suspended by A&E in 2013 for making rather strong anti-gay comments.
“Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there,” he told GQ a few years ago, adding at the time:
“Beastiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men.”
He then paraphrased a Bible passage and also said the following:
“It seems like, to me, a vagina – as a man – would be more desirable than a man’s anus, that’s just me.
“I’m just thinking: There’s more there! She’s got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I’m saying?
“But hey, sin: It’s not logical, my man. It’s just not logical.”
Regarding his upcoming show, Robertson says that he plans on rejecting “political correctness,” explaining:
“For far too long we have been told to shut up. No more. Here’s the deal, America. These are my woods. Out here, I call the shots.
“Out here, we reject political correctness, or as I like to say, ‘pontificated crap’.”
When we last heard from Robertson, he was slamming Miley Cyrus and The Discovery Channel.
“America is floundering in sin,” he said in May of last year, citing Miley as someone who promotes “decadence” and who is ruining this country.
Robertson will provide a preview of his show on Friday at the Values Voters Summit in Washington, where speakers include President Donald Trump and his former White House adviser, Steve Bannon.
“Our culture and values are being overrun and progressives are hell bent on purging traditional values from media,” says CRTV senior vp Gaston Mooney. “Phil is a Christian and CRTV is proud to have him proclaim from our platform.”

Anchor Learns of Husband"s Death On Air, Completes Report
Supreet Kaur, an anchor for Indian news network IBC24, went viral over the weekend for the most tragic of reasons.
While listening to a reporter detail a two-vehicle crash in the region that featured two injuries and three fatalities, Kaur realized that her husband of 18 months, Harshad Kawade, was very likely one of the victims.
She knew the car he was driving that day and the area through which he was headed.
Somehow, though, the 28-year old journalist finished with the hour-long broadcast and only broke down after walking out of the TV studio, according to The Hindustan Times.
"She got a sense that it was her husband"s vehicle," a senior editor told the newspaper, adding:
"She read the bulletin and only when she came out of the studio, she started calling her relatives."
The editor added that Kaur’s colleagues had learned during the broadcast that Kaur"s husband as dead "but we did not tell her. We did not have the courage."
Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh tweeted about Kaur soon after this report concluded, writing online:
"Salute Supreet"s strength in dealing with her husband"s demise with extraordinary bravery and professionalism. May departed soul rest in peace."
The death of her husband was confirmed shortly after Kaur got up from her desk.
"She is an extremely brave lady," a colleague told the aforementioned publication.

News Anchor Feeds Colleagues Special Dip, Mass Vomiting Nearly Ensues
Leslie Horton, Global News Calgary news anchor, probably didn"t expect to be at the butt of a viral internet joke this morning.
Horton"s artichoke dip, which she made for a holiday party and brought in for her coworkers to taste on the morning segment, was terrible — and was sadly sampled on-air.
The other news anchors could barely keep their composure over how terrible the dip actually was.
When she described the dip, and the back story behind how she had to bring it to a family gathering, one of the anchors said, "It smells like a barn."
Meterologist Jordan Witzel bravely tried the dip first, gagged and said, "It"s the vinegar," to which Horton responded, "But there"s no vinegar in there!"
"I can"t swallow it!" he announced, as he spit it out in tissue paper and said, "I"m not trying to be rude here!"
For Horton"s part, all she could do was laugh.
"It"s artichoke dip," she said, "but something terribly went wrong."
The anchors attempted as best as they could to put on professional faces while they discussed the dip, trying to figure out just went wrong, but it wasn"t until later that Witzel, the meteorologist, discerned what had gone awry.
"We figured it out," he tweeted. "She used pickled artichokes from a jar instead of fresh chopped artichokes."
That"ll get you every time … and as for poor Leslie Horton, perhaps she should just stop trying to cook.
When you pickle anything, really, it"s done in vinegar … and any chef worth their weight in artichokes would probably know that.
Later, Horton talked about the disastrous recipe and said, "I’m so glad my cooking fail brought a smile to so many faces."
"It was just another kitchen experiment gone wrong for me, but this time my co-workers were unfortunately subject to my free-wheeling in the kitchen."
She even admitted that her cooking skills leave a lot to be desired.
“I am a terrible cook."
"I could create a cookbook with all the recipes and dishes I have ruined. I need to stop improvising in the kitchen but I keep trying," she said.
See the hilarious video below and we dare you to keep a straight face — just try!

Shep Smith: Fox News Anchor Comes Out as Gay, Slams Roger Ailes
Back in July, Fox News CEO Roger Ailes stepped down following months of accusations of sexual harassment and other inappropriate behavior in the workplace.
The conservative news network was sued by Gretchen Carlson, a former on-air personality who claims she was pressured to perform sex acts on Ailes.
Shortly thereafter, longtime legal analyst Greta Van Susteren left Fox, though it’s unclear if her decision had anything to do with the allegations against Ailes.
Throughout the scandal, most of Fox’s best-known pundits stuck by the network that made them household names, though that doesn’t mean they dispute the allegations against Ailes or in any way condone their former boss’ behavior.
One of those personalities, Shep Smith, has been with the network since shortly after its inception in 1996.
He says he never considered leaving Fox, even though he was deeply troubled by reports of Ailes’ behavior.
In a new interview with the Huffington Post, Smith discusses his feelings toward his fallen mentor, for the first time, tacitly confirms that he’s gay:
“It’s such a wonderful place, and it’s been home forever. He was very fatherly and mentorish,” Smith says of Ailes. “And now I know that there were other things going on here.”
Asked if he ever heard Ailes use any anti-gay slurs, Smith responds:
“No, never. He treated me with respect, just respect.”
The 52-year-old anchor adds:
“I wasn’t new in the business when I came here ― I’d been doing reporting for 12 years ― but I wasn’t old in it either, and he gave me every opportunity in the world and he never asked anything of me but that we get it right, try to get it right every day.
“It was a very warm and loving and comfortable place.”
Asked about reports that Ailes prevented Smith from coming out publicly, Smith issues the following flat-out denial:
“That’s not true. He was as nice as he could be to me. I loved him like a father. I trusted him with my career and with ― I trusted him and trusts were betrayed.
“People outside this company can’t know [how painful that betrayal was]. This place has its enemies, but inside, it was very personal, and very scarring and horrifying.”
Smith adds that rather than shying away from the truth about Ailes, he hopes his colleagues at Fox will learn from their disgraced leader’s example.
Smith has been named as one of the most powerful gay men in the country by Out magazine, but he has never formally come out to the public.

TV Anchor Accidentally Sculpts Sand Into a Penis
Give it up for live television, folks!
In a segment from KMTV’s Morning Blend that has gone viral for a very understandable reason, co-host Mike DiGiacomo is helping his team promote a charity sand sculpting event.
He"s interviewing a sand sculpting expert who has created a special took that helps one make spheres in sand.
Pretty cool, right? Pretty useful in this context, no?
Most definitely.
But DiGiacomo gives the tool a whirl and then quickly realizes that he has accidentally created… on air.
"What did I make just make there?" the anchor asks as he erases a smooth set of sand testicles.
If it"s any comfort to DiGiacomo, he isn"t alone when it comes to making penis references on live television.

Sports Anchor Pays Tribute to Prince, Gets Fired
Remember that time a weather reporter quoted Taylor Swift in his report?
Or that time a British meteorologist did the same with Star Wars?
Those were pretty cool, right?
Unfortunately for WZTV Fox-17 sports anchor Dan Phillips, his bosses did not feel the same way after he paid tribute to Prince by quoting that late star"s lyrics in a recent report.
Phillips opened his broadcast late last month by telling his "dearly beloved" viewers to gather around.
He then said "let"s go crazy" over some hockey highlights, before going on to mix in Prince lyrics with his playoff rundown.
A short time later, Phillips was out of a job.
When contacted by The Tennessean, the reporter would not confirm that was why he was fired from the Sinclair Broadcast Group-owned station due to this tribute.
But he worked at the station for 10 years prior to being let go.
And then he wrote the following on Facebook:
"First of all, I want to thank everyone for the kind words, comments and positive feedback on this tribute I did to Prince last week. It really means a lot.
"Unfortunately, there were apparently some viewers, as well as management at the station, who did not feel the same way. They felt I was insensitive. And as a result, I was terminated today.
"I"m choosing to use this as a catalyst for some exciting things I"ve been working on for some time now. I"ll have many more details on this in coming days.
"For now, thanks again for all of your support. And if you need an old, washed-up sports guy for anything, please let me know!"

Wendy Bell, Emmy-Winning News Anchor, Fired for Racist Rant
Wendy Bell is out of a job after making the sort of negative headlines on which she typically reports.
The Emmy Award-winning anchor – who had been with the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based station WTAE-TV for 18 years – was fired on Wednesday after she went off on a racist rant via her Facebook page.
“WTAE has ended its relationship with anchor Wendy Bell,” said Hearst Television, the station’s parent company, in a statement to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
“Wendy’s recent comments on a WTAE Facebook page were inconsistent with the company’s ethics and journalistic standards.”
So… what, exactly, did Bell write on Facebook?
What prompted her ousting?
On March 18, nine days after a mass shooting Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, Bell left the following message:
“You needn’t be a criminal profiler to draw a mental sketch of the killers who broke so many hearts two weeks ago Wednesday … they are young black men, likely in their teens or early 20s …
“They have multiple siblings from multiple fathers and their mothers work multiple jobs. These boys have been in the system before.
“They’ve grown up there. They know the police. They’ve been arrested.”
Bell even acknowledged that this post could be deemed “racist” and said she regretted “offending anyone” prior to deleting it from her account.
But the damage had already been done.
In a phone interview with the Associated Press the day after she was terminated, Bell said that she didn’t get a “fair shake” from WTAE.
She went on to say she’s “sick” from the entire affair, adding by way of explanation:
“What matters is what’s going on in America, and it is the death of black people in this country … I live next to three war-torn communities in the city of Pittsburgh, that I love dearly. My stories, they struck a nerve. They touched people, but it’s not enough.
“More needs to be done. The problem needs to be addressed.”

SportsCenter Anchor Sticks Up for the Real Lamar Odom
Lamar Odom is not some reality star.
He is not the product of his marriage to Khloe Kardashian and he was famous long before he ever appeared on E!.
So argues Scott Van Pelt in this perfectly-said clip from SportsCenter, as the anchor takes issue with the recent headlines in the wake of Odom"s tragic hospitalization.
Odom earned his fame, Van Pelt says, he did not become a celebrity due to an "absence of accomplishment," which is a clear and valid shot and Kim Kardashian and her family.
This is someone who has traveled an "unspeakably difficult road" and who is now fighting for his life inside a Las Vegas hospital. He"s a real person with an actual name, not merely a former co-star on a popular reality series.
Profound words. Watch them for yourself now.

Speaker of the House -- Anchor Gets a Boner Over Resignation! (VIDEO)
Z STAFF
This is hilarious, and something every news anchor in American has tried NOT to mispronounce … the name of Speaker of the House John Boehner.
Lauren Sivan from Fox 11 L.A. clearly had in her head what she SHOULDN’T say, but it came out anyway.
As you know, the Speaker announced Friday he would be resigning. To be fair to Lauren, that probably did give conservative house Republicans a boner.
