Jimmy Kimmel Cries, Slams Congress, Pushes for Gun Control

Jimmy Kimmel better be careful.

He"s in danger of becoming more known for his heart than his humor.

Several days after the comedian dedicated multiple monologues to slamming a proposed health care bill, the talk show host once again grew emotional on stage while talking about this week"s massacre in Las Vegas.

Kimmel hails from that city.

And a shooter opened up late Sunday night on attendees at a country music festival, killing nearly 60 people and injuring over 500 others.

“Here we are again in the aftermath of another terrible, inexplicable, shocking, and painful tragedy, this time in Las Vegas, which happens to be my hometown,” Kimmel said to open his show on Monday, tears forming in his eyes immediately.

“It’s the kind of thing that makes you want to throw up or give up. It’s too much to even process, all of these devastated families who now have to live with this pain forever.”

He then asked:

"Why is that allowed? I don’t know why our so-called leaders continue to allow this to happen. Or maybe better question: why do we continue to allow them to let it happen?"

In response to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders saying this was NOT the time to discuss gun control, Kimmel shot back:

"I don’t know, we have 59 innocent people dead, it wasn’t their time either, so I think now is the time for political debate.”

Seth Meyers and James Corden also called on politicians to put lives before money last night, but Kimmel stands out for the emotion he conveyed and the surprisingly important voice he has become in these difficult times.

Earlier this year, Republicans in Congress voted to make it easier for the mentally ill to purchase guns.

They will soon vote on legislation that makes it easier to purchase and use silencers. At one point, politicians pushed for alleged terrorists on the No Fly List to legally own guns.

All of this despite the extreme majority of Americans being for background checks and other gun control measures.

Mere thoughts and prayers are hollow and meaningless at this point, Kimmel said.

Referring to Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell, he added:

“They should be praying – they should be praying for God to forgive them for letting the gun lobby run this country because it’s so crazy… lawmakers won’t do anything about this because the NRA has their balls in a money clip.”

“I want this to be a comedy show, I hate talking about stuff like this,” Kimmel concluded on Monday.

“I just want to laugh about things every night, but it seems to be becoming increasingly difficult lately.

"It feels like someone has opened a window into hell. What I’m talking about tonight isn’t about gun control – it’s about common sense.

"Common sense says no good will ever come from allowing a person to have weapons that can take down 527 Americans at a concert…

"Something needs to be done already. Tell your Congress people to do something. It’s not enough to send your love and prayers."

Impressive stuff. Watch the full monologue now:

Counting On Recap: Joy-Anna and Austin Get So Wet

On Counting On Season 5 Episode 4, Joy-Anna and Austin embarked on camping trips as part of their bachelor and bachelorette weekends.

Heavily chaperoned of course. No hanky panky here.

If you watch Counting On online, you knew this wasn’t gonna be “glamping” (groan) in the vein of the Real Housewives of Wherever.

This here was “legitimate camping” if you ever saw it.

Joy Duggar and her now-husband Austin Forsyth planned a joint bachelor and bachelorette party in the woods, and it was … an adventure.

With about 20 of their closest friends and siblings.

Prior to the weekend, Joy-Anna stressed that no one would be “cheating” on this camping trip. In other words, no modern amenities.

“Guys, please don’t cheat!” Joy said. “It’s not going to be fun if you cheat… No makeup, no electricity… We’re roughing it!”

No word if Austin pitched a tent in more ways than one over the weekend … if you know what we’re talking about people!

“I’m looking forward to today, it’s going to be a good day, God willing,” Austin said before embarking on a kayaking adventure.

“I’m just hoping we don’t flip… I’m a little concerned,” Jana Duggar said, and with good reason … but Joy and Austin flipped!

“It wasn’t too nerve-wracking,” Joy said of her fiance in a confessional. “He popped right back up. I know he’s a good swimmer.”

Later, the group stopped kayaking to enjoy a rope swing, which prompted Austin to reflect on “a special time we’ll remember forever.”

Naturally, the topic of sleeping arrangements came up, and apparently, there weren’t enough trees for the guys’ hammocks.

So they had to sleep next to the girls instead.

Just kidding. Anyone keep a straight face?

Ever-resourceful Austin tied a few hammocks to the group’s trucks to solve that issue before sitting around campfire for s’mores.

The future spouses’ wedding coordinator, Laura, played a game with them in which she tested how well they know each other.

Austin and Joy have been friends pretty much their whole lives, so they fared well, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t anxiety.

Joy confessed that she fears the “responsibilities” of being a wife and that change is “hard” … especially at the young age of 19.

After that telling remark, she snapped back to reality, issuing the company line that this is “going to be the most amazing time.”

Here’s hoping.

Teen Mom 2 Recap: Kailyn Lowry Graduates!!

This week on Teen Mom 2, Kailyn graduated from college, while a fight between Briana’s family and Luis cast a pall over Stella’s homecoming.

Meanwhile, Leah took another shot at motivational speaking, and embattled bride-to-be Jenelle shopped for wedding dresses in New York.

On Teen Mom 2 Season 9 Episode 13, Kailyn’s graduation day arrived at last, with two of the three baby daddies in attendance.

Any guesses which one was MIA?

With some irony, given that they met at Delaware State, Chris Lopez did not show. To her disappointment, Kailyn later admitted.

“I don’t even have feelings anymore,” she said, and while that’s clearly a lie, she should be very proud of her accomplishments.

If you watch Teen Mom 2 online, you know Leah Messer first tried to give a public speech last week and it was a total disaster.

This week she got back on the horse.

“I was just so out of my element,” she said of her failed debut, but notes that it’s worth another shot, since “I just want to make a difference.”

Her second speech started out in less than stellar fashion, but she hit her stride and – dare we say it – inspired her audience by the end.

“I just kept pushing forward,” Messer said.

“This was everything I wanted it to be.”

Get it, girl! Way to push through that!

In South Dakota, Chelsea Houska and Cole DeBoer took Watson to get a shot at the doctor. They are just the cutest family ever.

Meanwhile, Briana DeJesus’ ex-boyfriend Luis still wasn’t doing anything to help with their kid, but was driving her family nuts.

“I want to be comfortable in my own house,” Briana said, while mom Roxanne added, “You’re a f–king loser, bro. Douchebag.”

That hit close to home. Luis bounced.

Jenelle Evans, with her wedding to David Eason fast approaching, headed to New York with friends to pick out a wedding dress.

Uninvited, Barbara Evans was shook.

“I’ve already lost her,” Barbara cried.

“She’s so mean to me.”

While she wasn’t what we would say fresh out of f–ks to give, Jenelle reflected on the current state of affairs and was ambivalent.

Yes, it was sad that Barb wasn’t coming and that her dad is out of the picture, but to use the old cliche, it is what it is right now.

“I don’t think there’s any coming back,” she said about her relationship with her mom … here’s hoping that will change soon.
