Stacey Dash: I"m Running for Congress

Two years ago, Stacey Dash’s Oscars appearance was one of the most painfully awkward moment from any awards show. Move over, Kanye.

Now, the actress and controversial conservative pundit is appearing somewhere else: a ballot.

That’s right, folks. Stacey Dash is running for Congress. This is real life.

Back in the ’90s, Stacey Dash starred in the cult classic film, Clueless.

It’s a beloved film, but some of its stars haven’t fared so well.

There was the tragic death of Brittany Murphy.

Alicia Silverstone is alive and well … but wrote a parenting book that espouses views characterized as anti-vaccination. That’s never a good look.

And then there’s Stacey Dash who emerged in 2012 as a conservative pundit whose outlandish and often unsupported statements made headlines and made heads turn.

Stacey worked for Fox News for a while — she’s both a beautiful woman and a conservative, so she really fit their brand — but the network did not renew her contract in 2017.

Stacey Dash is now, however, running for Congress.

Yes, the Congress of the United States of America. She filed the paperwork to run in California’s 44th district, looking to unseat Democrat Nanette Barragan.

And yes, she’s making “Dash to DC” a real thing.

It’s worth noting that the district tends to vote for Democratic candidates, and includes Compton, Watts, San Pedro, and North Long Beach.

Some guess that Stacey Dash believes that a beautiful woman of color (and celebrity) might have a fighting chance in flipping the district.

Stacey Dash’s history calls that into question.

See, Stacey Dash wasn’t always an outspoken Republican. In fact, she wasn’t always a Republican.

She apparently supported Barack Obama during 2008. Over time, however, she came to believe that Obama’s policies were “socialism.”

(This is in part a result of the polarization that causes people on both sides of the political aisle to view free market capitalism as the only form of capitalism, as if welfare capitalism isn’t sitting right there)

At that point, she decided that she wouldn’t be “pressured” into supporting Obama or other Democratic politicians simply because she’s black or a woman.

She supported Mitt Romney in 2012 and has continued to be an outspoken conservative ever since.

Stacey Dash running for Congress might be a surprise to anyone who expects people to make good choices, but she’s actually been threatening to run for office for a little while now.

On February 9th, she tweeted:

“A number of people online and off have suggested I run for political office. I wanted to see what my online community thinks of this idea as I mull the possibilities. Thoughts?”

On February 22nd, she tweeted: “Things are taking shape.” She followed that with “Soon.”

Fans and followers who saw those vague tweets could only conclude that she was either making good on her threat to run for office or constructing some sort of laser on the moon. It was the former.

We don’t know what her strategy for flipping a district that voted 83% for Hillary Clinton in 2016. That will be interesting to watch.

As for Stacey Dash choosing now to run … we suspect that February being Black History month has little to do with it.

She’s stated — or, as some characterize it, she’s parroted racist criticisms in a bid for acceptance from white conservatives — that Black History Month shouldn’t exist.

(Forgetting, perhaps, that without such occasions, some people find it all too easy to focus on white accomplishments. Spending the shortest month of the year to pay attention to the struggles and deeds of a minority isn’t too much to ask, right?)

Stacey’s taken a number of controversial stances that don’t even have to do with race — such as suggesting that transgender people should “pee in the bushes” instead of using bathrooms with cisgender people. Yikes.

Some ask if Stacey Dash is making this run to try to build her brand. Others wonder if she just wants attention — though surely she’s read enough mean tweets about herself by now.

Florida Woman Wants to Be Elected to Congress, Says She Was Abducted by Aliens

Over the years, you’ve likely read about that time a Florida Woman tried to impregnate her slave with her boyfriend’s sperm.

Or the time a Florida Woman was so desperate for Chicken McNuggets that she hoped to exchange oral sex for this fast food delicacy.

But this is a new one, even for the much-maligned and often-controversial Florida Woman:

Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera claims she was abducted by aliens at the age of seven.

Oh, and she’s running for Congress!

A one-time council member from Doral, Aguilera previously described her alleged interaction with extraterrestrials in multiple interviews uncovered by The Miami Herald.

The politician says two large-bodied females and one male visited her when she was a child and have communicated telepathically with her multiple times since then.

In a 2009 Q&A, Aguilera outlined “going up” into a spaceship with these beings and spending time as their captive/guest.

“I went in. There were some round seats that were there, and some quartz rocks that controlled the ship – not like airplanes,” Rodriguez Aguilera said.

BOA

In separate videos posted to YouTube many years ago – one by local Spanish-language station America TeVe and another by a political critic with the user name DoralGirl26 – Rodriguez Aguilera talked in detail about these experiences.

She said the alien beings reminded her of the famous statue in Rio de Janeiro, Christ the Redeemer, with arms outstretched.

As for what she learned from these aliens?

– There are 30,000 skulls (“different from humans”) in a cave in the Mediterranean island of Malta.

– The world’s “energy center” is located in Africa.

– The Coral Castle, a limestone tourist attraction South Miami-Dade, is actually an ancient Egyptian pyramid.

– Simply, “God is a universal energy.”

Bettina Rodriguez Aguilera ad

Aguilera isn’t really denying this story, either.

She’s running to replace retiring Miami Republican Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and responded to The Herald’s request for comment as follows:

“For years people, including Presidents like Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter and astronauts have publicly claimed to have seen unidentified flying objects and scientists like Stephen Hawking and institutions like the Vatican have stated that there are billions of galaxies in the universe and we are probably not alone.

“I personally am a Christian and have a strong belief in God, I join the majority of Americans who believe that there must be intelligent life in the billions of planets and galaxies in the universe.”

She also thinks the newspaper is out to get her.

“The Miami Herald article is clearly an attack piece,” Aguilera told The Washington Post, adding:

“I’m a person who owns up to who I am.

“And this is just an experience that I had. It has nothing to do with who I am and what I have shown in the past 40 years and what a positive role model I’ve been to the community.”

We’d say she has no chance of winning, but… you’ve seen who is in the White House, right?

Jimmy Kimmel Cries, Slams Congress, Pushes for Gun Control

Jimmy Kimmel better be careful.

He"s in danger of becoming more known for his heart than his humor.

Several days after the comedian dedicated multiple monologues to slamming a proposed health care bill, the talk show host once again grew emotional on stage while talking about this week"s massacre in Las Vegas.

Kimmel hails from that city.

And a shooter opened up late Sunday night on attendees at a country music festival, killing nearly 60 people and injuring over 500 others.

“Here we are again in the aftermath of another terrible, inexplicable, shocking, and painful tragedy, this time in Las Vegas, which happens to be my hometown,” Kimmel said to open his show on Monday, tears forming in his eyes immediately.

“It’s the kind of thing that makes you want to throw up or give up. It’s too much to even process, all of these devastated families who now have to live with this pain forever.”

He then asked:

"Why is that allowed? I don’t know why our so-called leaders continue to allow this to happen. Or maybe better question: why do we continue to allow them to let it happen?"

In response to White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders saying this was NOT the time to discuss gun control, Kimmel shot back:

"I don’t know, we have 59 innocent people dead, it wasn’t their time either, so I think now is the time for political debate.”

Seth Meyers and James Corden also called on politicians to put lives before money last night, but Kimmel stands out for the emotion he conveyed and the surprisingly important voice he has become in these difficult times.

Earlier this year, Republicans in Congress voted to make it easier for the mentally ill to purchase guns.

They will soon vote on legislation that makes it easier to purchase and use silencers. At one point, politicians pushed for alleged terrorists on the No Fly List to legally own guns.

All of this despite the extreme majority of Americans being for background checks and other gun control measures.

Mere thoughts and prayers are hollow and meaningless at this point, Kimmel said.

Referring to Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell, he added:

“They should be praying – they should be praying for God to forgive them for letting the gun lobby run this country because it’s so crazy… lawmakers won’t do anything about this because the NRA has their balls in a money clip.”

“I want this to be a comedy show, I hate talking about stuff like this,” Kimmel concluded on Monday.

“I just want to laugh about things every night, but it seems to be becoming increasingly difficult lately.

"It feels like someone has opened a window into hell. What I’m talking about tonight isn’t about gun control – it’s about common sense.

"Common sense says no good will ever come from allowing a person to have weapons that can take down 527 Americans at a concert…

"Something needs to be done already. Tell your Congress people to do something. It’s not enough to send your love and prayers."

Impressive stuff. Watch the full monologue now:

Greg Gianforte, Candidate for Congress, Body-Slams Reporter

Greg Gianforte, a Republican running for an open congressional seat in Montana, has been charged with misdemeanor assault following a confrontation on Wednesday with a reporter for The Guardian.

In the recording below, you can hear Ben Jacobs ask Gianforte about the Republican healthcare plan, which passed Congress a couple weeks ago and which will lead to 23 million American losing their insurance, according to a new non-partisan study.

The bill will soon be voting on by the Senate and Jacobs wanted Gianforte to respond to the latest Congressional Budget Office analysis of the proposal.

Agitated by the inquiry, Gianforte initially brushed it off and then appears to have turned violent once Jacobs continued to press for a response.

“I’m sick and tired of you guys!” Gianforte can be heard saying in the following video, which includes sounds of a physical struggle and a crash.

“The last time you came here you did the same thing," Gianforte adds. "Get the hell out of here. Get the hell out of here.”

“You just body-slammed me and broke my glasses," Jacobs replies, asking for the names of the staffers present and stating he plans to call the police.

A spokesperson for Gianforte does not dispute that an altercation took place.

But claims the candidate was provoked.

“After asking Jacobs to lower the recorder, Jacobs declined,” said Shane Scanlon, adding:

“Greg then attempted to grab the phone that was pushed in his face. Jacobs grabbed Greg’s wrist and spun away from Greg, pushing them both to the ground.”

Nowhere in the recording, however, does Gianforte request for any phone to be lowered.

Moreover, members of a Fox News television crew witnessed the encounter and did not back up this account.

In a statement on the Fox News website, one of the journalists described Gianforte as “punching the reporter” and, as Gianforte moved on top of Jacobs, they said he started yelling something to the effect of, "I"m sick and tired of this!"

To be clear, adds this Fox News statement, at no point did any of us who witnessed this assault see Jacobs show any form of physical aggression toward Gianforte, who left the area after giving statements to local sheriff"s deputies.

Local police said on Wednesday night it had completed its investigation and that Gianforte had been issued with a charge of misdemeanour assault.

If convicted, Gianforte faces up to a $ 500 fine, or six months in jail, or both.

Three newspapers, meanwhile, have withdrawn their endorsement of the candidate.
