Les Moonves Responds to Sexual Harassment Charges, Admits to Making "Women Feel Uncomfortable"

Les Moones has responded to charges of sexual harassment and misconduct outlined by Ronan Farrow in an explosive New Yorker article relased on Friday.

In the damning expose, Farrow cites six women, all of whom allege that the CBS CEO made unwanted advances toward them in the form of kissing or touching.

If they refused said advances, the women were punished.

Each also said she was afraid to speak out back when the incidents happened, out of fear over how Moonves could ruin their careers.

This same piece delves deeply into CBS itself, with Farrow writing that it maintains a testosterone-fueled culture where “everything feels old, the people, the furniture, the culture, the mores.”

(Moonves has served as the chairman of CBS for about two and a half years; the network has been the most-watched network on television in 15 of the last 16 seasons.)

One of the accusers is actress Illeana Douglas, perhaps best known for her role on Six Feet Under.

She claims to have been fired from a 1997 pilot after refusing Moonves’ advances, which included “violent kissing” and holding her down on his office couch.

“The physicality of it was horrendous,” she alleges of Moonves, who was the CBS Entertainment President at the time.

Douglas says she was promptly let from the unanmed sitcom and denied payment, although she was later offered compensation and the opportunity to appear in a CBS miniseries after she retained an attorney.

In response to the scathing allegations against him, Moonves has said the following:

Throughout my time at CBS, we have promoted a culture of respect and opportunity for all employees, and have consistently found success elevating women to top executive positions across our Company.

I recognize that there were times decades ago when I may have made some women uncomfortable by making advances.

Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely.

But I always understood and respected – and abided by the principle – that ‘no’ means ‘no,’ and I have never misused my position to harm or hinder anyone’s career.

This is a time when we all are appropriately focused on how we help improve our society, and we at CBS are committed to being part of the solution.

Even before various details from the article were made public on Friday, CBS vows to investigate Moonves and this entire situation.

It said in a lengthy statement of its own:

CBS is very mindful of all workplace issues and takes each report of misconduct very seriously.

We do not believe, however, that the picture of our Company created in The New Yorker represents a larger organization that does its best to treat its tens of thousands of employees with dignity and respect.

We are seeing vigorous discourse in our country about equality, inclusion and safety in the workplace, and CBS is committed to being part of the solution to those important issues.

Moonves is one of the most powerful men in Hollywood.

He earned close to $ 70 million last year and is married to CBS on-air personality Julie Chen.

The Big Brother host said the following in the wake of these accusations against her husband:

I have known my husband, Leslie Moonves, since the late ’90s, and I have been married to him for almost 14 years.

Leslie is a good man and a loving father, devoted husband and inspiring corporate leader.

He has always been a kind, decent and moral human being. I fully support my husband and stand behind him and his statement.

That’s all well and good and parts of it may be true.

But it’s very safe to assume at least one thing in all of this:

There’s no way Les Moonves remains CEO of CBS for very much longer.

Ariel Winter: Driven Off of Twitter by Hateful Harassment

While Instagram is still happily showing Ariel Winter getting her butt grabbed, the Modern Family star has taken a step back from Twitter.

She is, at least, explaining her absence, but it’s not good news.

Ariel has been driven off of the social media platform because she is absolutely exhausted by the constant harassment. And she might drop Instagram next.

In a statement to Entertainment Tonight, Ariel Winter’s rep explains why the Modern Family star has suddenly vanished from Twitter.

“Ariel has taken a break from Twitter,” the statement explains. “And engaging with commenters on her other platforms.”

You can engage with fans on just about any platform, but Twitter sometimes feels like nothing but that — and it can wear you out.

Ariel is stepping back “because of the constant negativity she experiences,” the statement says.

People on the internet can be cruel — especially if you are famous and especially if you are a woman.

“She needs a moment to breathe and enjoy herself,” the statement continues.

Of course. Everyone, no matter how famous, deserves that.

And the statement makes clear that Ariel wants to be able to live her life “without judgement.”

Good for her.

Ariel did not only speak up through her rep.

In her Instagram story, Ariel warned fans that she is “in the process of deleting all social media.”

Fortunately, her Instagram remains up — for now.

Back in 2016, Ariel was singing a different tune when she spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her use of social media.

“I don’t really think I’m telling myself, ‘You should post this, you shouldn’t post that,’ I feel like I’m just having fun,” Ariel said at the time.

She explained why she offered so many glimpses into her life, saying: “I like my fans to see what I’m doing.”

“I’m not going to fight with someone on my Instagram that tells me they don’t like my outfit or I should put my butt away,” Ariel said.

That’s good. It’s her body and, within Instagram’s rules of use (which totally allow butts), she can share whatever photos of it she likes.

“I’m sorry you think I should put my butt away,” Ariel said in 2016. “But just unfollow me.”

That is good advice. Unfortunately, not advice that many people take.

Instead, there are certain trolls who thrive off of eliciting a reaction — especially a negative one — from famous women on the internet.

These trolls are drawn to beautiful women, but for some reason seem determined to shame these women for showing (or even having) the bodies that these trolls often admire.

Of course, these trolls may also tell beautiful women that they’re ugly, or say anything else to hurt that person’s self esteem.

It doesn’t make sense, but vicious cruelty on the internet doesn’t have to be logical to drive people from the internet.

Look at how Star Wars actress Kelly Marie Tran was driven from Instagram by harassment. And now, Ariel Winter’s been driven away from Twitter.

We imagine that what’s changed for Ariel Winter since 2016 is that trolls are more emboldened than ever before. It’s also that she probably got tired of the hate.

What seems like a bracing difference of opinion at one point can get really old two years later.

Additionally, Ariel is happily in a relationship with Levi Meaden. A lot of hateful comments have been directed at their romance, at him, and his career.

It can be a lot harder to weather comments about someone you love than it is to see hate directed at you.

We hope that this well-deserved rest does Ariel a lot of good. We’ll certainly miss her tweets.

Demi Lovato: Fans Accuse Her of Sexual Harassment After Prank-Gone-Wrong

Demi Lovato decided to hold a Q&A session with fans on Twitter.

It didn"t go so well after Demi answered an innocuous question with a story that shocked and horrified a sizable chunk of her fans.

Demi tells fans that she once pulled a prank on her bodyguard by hiring a sex worker to surprise him.

She says that the sex worker groped his genitals during the process.

Demi shares this in a single tweet — and we do have to remember that sometimes people leave out important details while condensing a story.

But, to many, it sounds like she solicited someone to sexually harass one of her employees, and ultimately shares the blame for him being groped.

Though the bodyguard himself defended Demi, fans point out that an employee defending his boss isn"t exactly surprising.

The discourse among fans is actually really interesting, and both sides make really good points. Take a look.

1. This is how it starts

Demi lovato discourse tweet 01

We’re not sure why Demi decided to be this honest in answering the fan Q&A. She could have said something less controversial. She has since deleted this tweet.

2. Demi did not like the responses

Demi lovato discourse tweet 02

Fans, as you can imagine, did not like Demi comparing a story about sexual harassment to, uh, jellybeans. So … technically, she was right — people were pretty pissed about her jellybeant weet.

3. Demi tried to defend herself

Demi lovato discourse tweet 03

Wiord to the wise: “I was abused” is not a get-out-of-jail-free card. Unfortunately, some people who survive abuse can be very problematic as adults.

4. Demi then "apologizes"

Demi lovato discourse tweet 04

This, folks, is not an apology. She’s sort of saying that she regrets that other people reacted negatively to her statement. We’ve all “apologized” like this and we know that it’s what you say when you think that what you did was right.

5. The bodyguard spoke up

Demi lovato discourse tweet 05

Before he saw the discourse, Max just replied with a see-no-evil monkey emoji. Given the context, it sounds like he was not especially bothered by the prank.

6. Max then defends Demi

Demi lovato discourse tweet 06

When someone sexually harasses another person, is it sexual harassment if they say that it’s okay? Is that still the case if the person is an employee? The world is complicated.

Morgan Freeman Accused of Rampant Sexual Harassment

Morgan Freeman is the latest major name to face serious accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct.

According to an investigation by CNN, the actor’s alleged inappropriate behavior took place on multiple movie sets.

Those who have gone on record about these incidents include female production staff members… employees at Morgan’s own Revelations Entertainment… and a few reports.

Altogether, 16 women spoke to CNN about the Oscar winner’s actions; eight alleged victims and eight more witnesses.

Most of them tell similar, very troubling tales. For example:

One unnamed production assistant told the network that she suffered through several months of unwanted advances and inappropriate comments on the set of the 2017 movie Going in Style.

She alleged that Freeman once “kept trying to lift up my skirt and asking if I was wearing underwear” prior to his costar Alan Arkin telling him to cut it out.

And another example:

A senior member of the production staff for the 2013 film Now You See Me spoke to CNN and said that Freeman made a multitude of comments about her and her female assistant’s bodies.

Said this individual:

“We knew that if he was coming by … not to wear any top that would show our breasts, not to wear anything that would show our bottoms, meaning not wearing clothes that [were] fitted.”

Four of the people interviewed by CNN claimed that the veteran star made women feel uncomfortable on a swath of movie sets over the past decade.

They said they didn’t report his behavior out of fear of losing their jobs.

“He would be verbally inappropriate and it was just shocking,” said an ex-male employee at Revelations Entertainment, the movie production company that the Freeman himself co-founded in 1996.

Added thisperson:

“It’s hard because on any set he is the most powerful person on it. It’s weird because you just don’t expect it from Morgan Freeman, someone who you respect.”

Elsewhere, a trio of entertainment reporters (including CNN’s Chloe Melas) have alleged that Freeman made inappropriate remarks toward them at public press events.

Melas, for instance, says that he repeatedly looked her up and down and called her “ripe” when she interviewed him at a junket for Going in Style … while six months pregnant.

(WTH, dude?!?)

This supposed encounter is actually what led to the opening of CNN’s months-long investigation.

In response to the allegations, Freeman did not accuse anyone of lying, simply of misinterpreting his intentions.

“Anyone who knows me or has worked with me knows I am not someone who would intentionally offend or knowingly make anyone feel uneasy,” he said today via statement, concluding:

“I apologize to anyone who felt uncomfortable or disrespected – that was never my intent.”

As documented below, Morgan is the latest in a long and disturbing string of famous men who have allegedly acted inappropriately toward women in and around Hollywood.

Many of these folks will never work again…

Nev Schulman Addresses Sexual Harassment Charges as New Details Emerge

Earlier this week, fans of the popular MTV series Catfish were stunned by allegations of sexual misconduct directed at Nev Schulman, the show’s affable creator and host.

It wasn’t the first time that Schulman was accused of behaving inappropriately with a member of the opposite sex, but for many Catfish viewers, the news was shocking nonetheless.

After all, Schulman has made a career of being an advocate for vulnerable people – women, more often than not – who have been mistreated in the context of romantic relationships.

For many, to think that he would be capable of taking advantage of a power imbalance and harassing a woman who trusted him would be tantamount to admitting they’ve been fooled.

At first, details about the allegations against Schulman were somewhat hazy, but today, the 33-year-old addressed the situation for the first time as new information about the charges against him became public.

Though she has not yet confirmed that she is the accuser, several media outlets have identified Ayissha Morgan as the woman who lodged the complaint against Schulman.

Morgan appeared on a 2015 episode of Catfish, and she has since uploaded several YouTube videos detailing the mistreatment she allegedly suffered at the hands of one of the show’s hosts.

“I don’t think you’re a lesbian,” Morgan recalls the host saying.

“I was like, ‘Oh why do you feel that way?"” she says in one of her videos.

“And he was just like, ‘Because I just feel like you haven’t met the right guy yet. Do you think I’m attractive? Have you ever had sex with a guy?"”

Morgan says that when she replied in the negative, the host responded:

“Well I think you should try it, I have a big dick, I would tear your ass up.”

Schulman has issued a statement denying that any such conversation ever took place:

“The behavior described in this video did not happen and I’m fortunate that there are a number of former colleagues who were present during this time period who are willing to speak up with the truth,” he writes.

“I have always been transparent about my life and would always take responsibility for my actions — but these claims are false.”

An anonymous source has corroborated Schulman’s claims, telling E! News:

“The videos include a lot of things are that are disprovable, including the timeline and specific production details. The behavior she describes is inconsistent with Nev.”

Currently, production on Catfish is indefinitely suspended as MTV investigates the allegations against Schulman.

We’ll have further updates on this developing story as more information becomes available.
