Kristen Doute: Nev Schulman is a Jerk and I"ll Never Watch Catfish Again!
Despite Nev Schulman’s accuser filing a police report, they’re keeping him on Catfish, but the show is still looking for a new cohost.
Many thought that Vanderpump Rules star Kristen Doute would be a shoe-in for a host of reasons.
Nev laughed it off and basically called her a stalker, and Kristen is firing back.
Max Joseph is out at Catfish.
Nev Schulman, despite the sexual misconduct allegations against him, is still hosting the show.
And he’s looking for someone else. Naturally, a lot of people suggested Vanderpump Rules star Kristen Doute.
It’s not just that Kristen has been a fan of the show.
Kristen has some real detective skills, as The Ashley notes, having exposed her cheating ex-boyfriend James Kennedy and tracked down Tom Sandoval’s “Miami Girl.”
Using a common celebrity tactic, Kristen even drummed up support for the idea on Twitter, and a lot of fans loved the idea.
But when the subject came up in a recent interview, Nev Schulman shot down the possibility in a deeply insulting way.
“I’m even afraid to say her name, honestly,” Nev told Us Weekly.
He joked about her fondness for Catfish, saying: “I almost feel like I need to take a restraining order out.”
“Kristen really wants to be on the show,” Nev added. “I think she’s almost … she’s trying too hard!”
Kristen Doute appeared on co-star Stassi Schroeder’s Straight Up With Stassi to respond.
“I do not like ‘Catfish.’ I do not watch it,” Kristen shares. “I took it off my DVR.”
Kristen says: “I tweeted Nev. I’ve tweeted Max before. I’ve tweeted at ‘Catfish.’ I definitely started my own hashtag: #KristenForCatfish.”
“You know what, all of my wonderful followers on Twitter had my back and had that s–t trending real hard,” she notes.
“They know that I’m right” for the job, she says, “because I’ve taught them so many things that you, Nev, did not.”
“Everyone that I know — my team, my friends, the people who follow me — all contacted me like, ‘Kristen! He’s looking for a co-host!’” Krisen reveals.
Her interest in the show was famous, so it’s natural that she would come to mind.
“I thought it would be really fun to do one time,” Kristen explains. “I promote the s–t out of it and tell everyone to watch it.”
Stassi reassures her that she did nothing wrong by being outspoken about her hopes.
“That’s called manifesting,” Stassi notes.
Kristen laments how Nev responded: “He was a complete a–hole about it.”
If she just hadn’t gotten the role, that would be one thing. This rudeness is another matter.
“I unfollowed everything,” Kristen says of things related to Catfish. “And I don’t watch the show anymore”
She made this move “because that s–t [Nev said about me] was so beyond rude for someone who commends what you’ve done.”
“He badmouthed me because he thinks he’s too f–king cool for school,” she theorizes.
“He probably won’t even acknowledge this,” Kristen says. “But even if he wanted to say he was joking, it’s still f–king rude.”
She is absolutely right.
You can tell that Stassi is really heartbroken about this.
“It breaks my heart because you’ve talked about this show for so long,” Stassi says supportively.
“What do you want?” Kristen asks of Nv. “Do you want people to never speak about your show or be excited about it?”
She has a very valid point. If you shame fans of your show for liking it … how do you expect other fans to feel?
“It actually hurt my feelings,” Kristen admits. “And then it pissed me off.”

90 Day Fiance: Wait, Is Melissa NOT a Catfish?!
Ricky Reyes is a 33-year-old father who lives in Ohio. He has been sending money to the stunningly beautiful “Melissa” in Columbia.
Curiously, though Ricky had seen some gorgeous photos of “Melissa,” their attempts to video chat had always seemed to fail.
A lot of 90 Day Fiance: Before The 90 Days fans believe that she is a catfish. Now, we finally know the truth.
Ricky is the first to admit that he is taken in by the good looks of “Melissa” even though they have never met.
“Obviously, man, she is fricken hot,” he gushed on camera. “I’m already in love with her. I’m infatuated.”
“Her personality is awesome,” he clarified, in case he sounded shallow. “The way we talk, she wants to strive to do something better. She wants to be a nurse.”
Even then, he did lament that she doesn’t videochat with him — at least not without “mysterious” technical glitches.
The photos of her, however, were always hot.
Ricky, along with TLC’s cameras, flew down to Columbia so that they could finally meet in person.
They made arrangements to meet at a restaurant for their very first date.
Ricky, flowers in hand, made excuses for Melissa’s late arrival.
“In my experience, women take a while to get ready,” Ricky said. “I bet she’ll look hot as hell for me.”
Ricky waited for Melissa for two-and-a-half hours.
Fans had a number of theories. Some thought that he was being Catfished, for fun or for money or maybe a little of both.
Honestly, it might be weirder that Melissa showed up, looking exactly how she looks in the photos, two-and-a-half hours late.
But there she is, dressed up and looking outrageously beautiful.
From what we saw, it looks like she mostly smiled and let Ricky do the talking.
It may be that she’s not a catfish, but many fans believe that there’s something weird going on with this relationship.
Did Ricky lie to TLC and to viewers about the nature of his relationship with Melissa?
Some eagle-eyed redditors noticed that the cameras actually showed some of Ricky’s texts with Melissa while he was waiting … and waiting … and waiting for her.
And it looks like these two aren’t as close to getting engaged as we expect from this show.
“Seriously as friends, I want to invite you to a luxury restaurant in Medellin, one of the best,” Ricky wrote in Spanish, as translated by a redditor named MetallicPeacock27.
“Please think about it,” Ricky, who was already at the restaurant, begged. “I promise you it’s like just friends. Thank you I promise that I am a respectful man.”
So, maybe Ricky lied, maybe Melissa was just a little nervous — who can say?
Some think that Melissa showing up in person and smiling politely isn’t the same thing as proving that this was not a Catfish.
Think of it this way: if you were going to Catfish a guy, would you use some random model’s photos or, if you have the option, would you use pics from someone you know?
Some fans speculate that this person panicked when Ricky actually showed up in Columbia and had to convince and beg their friend, whose face they’ve been using, to keep the lie alive.
That would, these fans reason, explain why she was so very late showing up to dinner. And why she seemed to be just smiling and letting Ricky do the talking.

Nev Schulman, Host of MTV"s Catfish, Accused of Sexual Misconduct
Yup, him too.
On Thursday afternoon, MTV announced that it has suspended production on the reality series Catfish due to troubling allegations against host Nev Schulman.
The details behind these allegations are unknown at this time, but this is what the cable network said to The Daily Beast in a statement:
“We take these allegations very seriously. We’re working with Critical Content, our third party production company, to conduct a thorough investigation.”
Schulman, who also serves as executive producer on Catfish, has been the main man in front of the camera since the program’s debut in 2012.
Now in its seventh season, Catfish centers on Schulman’s investigations into online relationships, as he tries to verify whether people are who they actually say they are on the Internet.
It is based on a 2010 documentary of the same name that was also created by Schulman.
In the film, Schulman chronicles how he fell in love with a woman he met online, but was left heartbroken upon learning all the ways in which she misrepresented herself throughout their exchanges.
On the MTV show, he and filmmaking partner Max Joseph set out to assist others who may be in a similar predicament.
The series has become so popular that the term “Catfished” is now used in any situation that involves one side of an online relationship lying about his or her identity to the other side.
(Sister Wives star Meri Brown, for example, was the victim of a catfishing in 2016.)
Schulman is 33 years old and is married to Laura Perlongo.
The couple are parents to a 17-month old girl named Cleo and co-host a web series, “We Need to Talk,” for ATTN.
“It’s basically a show about relationships,” Nev told Us Weekly last year, adding:
“What do you do when you do find it and you want to keep it? You gotta work through some sh-t.
“This is a show that’s honest and sometimes a little embarrassing, but it’s real and it’s about the things that come up when you’re a couple.”
In response to the allegations against him, Schulman has said the following to The Daily Beast:
“I have always been transparent about my life and would always take responsibility for my actions – but these claims are false.”
Over the past several months, of course, more and more women have felt empowered by what has been dubbed the #MeToo movement.
They have come out with accusations against such stars as Matt Lauer, Louis C.K., Charlie Rose and movie producer Harvey Weinstein.
It’s very possible that none of these men ever work in Hollywood again.
And while it’s too early to say for certain, it’s now possible that the same will apply for Nen Schulman.

Josh Duggar WINS Stolen Photo Catfish Lawsuit!
The legal system has been quite kind to Josh Duggar.
Despite revelations that Josh molested five young girls in his youth, the father of five has never served prison time, nor seen the inside of a courtroom for his crimes.
Now, Josh is enjoying a different kind of legal victory, and yet again, he never even had to go in front of a judge.
Back in August of 2016, Josh was sued by Matthew McCarthy, a Los Angeles-based DJ who claimed that Josh had ruined his career by stealing his photos for use on various dating profiles.
McCarthy says he was harassed with nicknames like “Duggar boy toy,” and potential clients refused to hire him for fear of being associated with the sex scandal.
He’s suing Josh for undisclosed damages, claiming that the damage to his public image is irreparable.
Fortunately for Josh, a judge threw the case out last week, due to a legal technicality.
It seems McCarthy filed in the wrong state, and will need to re-file in Arkansas for his case to be considered.
McCarthy wanted the case tried in his home state of California, citing Josh’s two trips there in 2013 and 2015 as grounds for his filing.
It seems, however, that the judge saw McCarthy’s argument for what it was–an effort to avoid traveling to Arkansas to pursue a frivolous lawsuit.
Yes, far be it for us to side with Josh freakin’ Duggar of all people, but does anyone really believe this DJ’s career was ruined by Josh using his pic on OK Cupid?
Josh’s crimes are revolting, to be sure, but something about the image of people following McCarthy down Sunset and harassing him with jeers of “Duggar boy toy” just seems a little far-fetched to us.
Perhaps if Josh had set out to ruin McCarthy’s career, but the former reality star says he found the image googling “random guy.”
Don’t get us wrong, Josh deserves every negative consequence in the world for his crimes.
He should’ve done prison time and been forced to shell out millions in restitutions to his victims.
But an LA DJ attempting to cash in due to imagined damages just feels a bit cynical to us.

Robert Brian Clark Dies; Catfish Star Was 33
Robert Brian Clark, who appeared on a memorable episode of Season 2 of Catfish, has tragically died, MTV News confirms this week.
He was just 33 years old.
Clark, who went by “Brian” on his Catfish episode, was reportedly killed in a motorcycle accident in Jefferson County, Alabama.
Local news reports described a tragic, harrowing scene.
It’s not clear exactly how, but Brian was thrown from his motorcycle after he “became airborne while crossing a set of railroad tracks.”
He was then hit by a car after landing on the highway.
When the motorcycle came landed after being airborne, it landed on its side and Clark was ejected from the bike before being struck.
The crash happened at 5 p.m. local time, and Clark was pronounced dead on the scene less than a half an hour afterward, at 5:20 p.m.
Simply awful.
According to reports, Brian passed away in December, but it appears that MTV only learned about, and mourned, his death this week.
In 2013, Brian appeared on Catfish with Jesse Bettinger, a pretty blonde who was worried that Brian was not who he appeared to be.
You can see a photo of the couple above.
He’d been portraying himself as a Southern gentleman, but Jesse, unsure of who she was dealing with online, enlisted the Catfish crew.
As she told Nev Schulman, she had been stood up by Brian once before, after driving hundreds of miles to meet up with him no less.
Brian later revealed that he missed their rendezvous because he was arrested for possessing a sawed-off shotgun that very same day.
Nevertheless, the online relationship continued, and when Brian and Jesse eventually met on Catfish, well, he was who he said he was.
That’s right, he was telling the truth all along.
A catch-up special later revealed to fans that they did not end up together, though they continued dating one another after the episode.
It’s not clear why they broke up, but Brian, a former U.S. Marine, had struggled with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for years.
Jesse, now the mother of a two-year-old son, posted a tribute to Brian on Facebook, along with the caption, “I’ll never forget our good times.”
“Your struggle is finally over,” she said.
Sadly, Catfish Season 2 star Ashley Sawyer died within the last year as well (Mike Fortunato, the man she met on MTV, is also deceased).
Wednesday night’s episode of Catfish contained a short tribute to Brian Clark, with the network sharing its condolences and memories.
