Roy Clark Dies; Country Music Legend Was 85
Roy Clark, a legend in the world of country music and the former host of Hee Haw, died this morning at his home in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He was 85 years old.
A representative for the Grammy, CMA and ACM Award-winner tells TMZ Clark passed away after having recently contracted pneumonia — and that he ultimately passed due to complications from the illness.
Clark had been in the spotlight for decades.
He started performing all the way back at the age of 14 and was one of the first artists to land singles on both the pop and country charts.
Adept at the guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin, harmonica and many other instruments, Clark was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2009.
He was born in Virginia and was introduced to the music industry by his father, who saw exceptional talent in his young son.
“I was subjected to different kinds of music before I ever played,” Clark once said, adding of his father:
“Dad said, ‘Never turn your ear off to music until your heart hears it because then you might hear something you like."”
Sound advice, right?
Clark eventually went on tour with such stalwarts as Hank Williams and Grandpa Jones, dropping out of school when he could no longer keep up with the demands of both his burgeoning career and his studies.
“Music was my salvation, the thing I loved most and did best,” Clark said. “Whatever was fun, I’d go do that.”
After winning a banjo competition in 1950, Clark was invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry.
However, it wasn’t until 1960, when Clark performed with Wanda Jackson, that his career truly took off.
After opening for Jackson in Las Vegas, he launched his own headlining tour, remaining on the road for 345 consecutive nights… and earning him his very own show in Sin City.
In 1962, Clark released his debut album, “The Lightning Fingers of Roy Clark.”
This album spawned his first hit, “The Tips of My Fingers,” which included an orchestra and strings section.
In 1963, Clark appeared on both The Tonight Show and American Bandstand, showing off a sense of humor and personality that not many fans even knew existed.
“Humor is a blessing to me,” said Clark. “My earliest recollections are of looking at something and seeing the lighter side. But it’s always spontaneous. I couldn’t write a comedy skit for someone else.”
This point of view and this talent helped Clark become the host of Hee Haw, a country music variety show.
He helmed the program for 24 years and his guests included Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks and Loretta Lynn.
Clark is survived by Barbara, his wife of 61 years, and his five children.
Although an exact date and time has not yet been announced, a memorial is expected to be held in the coming days in Tulsa.

Stassi Schroeder Introduces New Boyfriend Beau Clark: He"s Not a Douche!
If you’ve been watching the current season of Vanderpump Rules, you know that former SUR girl and reigning controversy queen Stassi Schroeder is having a tough go of it.
Granted, many of Stassi’s problems are self-created, but it’s still jarring to see the former queen bee take such a tumble from the top of the social ladder.
The past two weeks have been particularly rough for Stassi due to allegations of racism from Ariana Madix and some bizarre photos that refuse to go away.
(Pro tip: Even if dressing in “Nazi chic” is your idea of a good gag, maybe don’t post the pics on social media.)
Like we said, she’s not exactly on top this season, and her situation is made worse by the fact that she’s dating a total douche.
In real life, Patrick Meagher dumped Stassi on what would have been their fourth anniversary (like we said, douche), but when Vanderpump Season 6 was filmed, they were very much still dating.
Which means we’ve been subjected to levels of mansplaining and cliched bumper sticker-slogan philosophy to make Joel Osteen blush.
(Side note: Between Stassi dating Patrick and Scheana dating Robert Valletta, is it just us, or do these women really go in for some cheesy Danny Tanner types.)
“I am in a relationship right now,” Stassi confirmed to Andy Cohen on Monday.
Now, we know who Stassi is dating, and it seems that after a dating past that includes Patrick and the likes of Jax Taylor, it seems Stassi has broken the cycle with a non-douche.
“It is very new, but they are exclusive,” an insider revealed to E! News.
“Stassi is happy that she didn’t have to use a dating app and met him organically through her best friends.”
The source adds:
“Beau is very social and likable within his friend group, and that’s why Katie [Maloney] and Kristen [Doute] thought he would be a good match for her.”
Is seems Beau possesses the two most important traits for any human being – a sense of humor and a love of dogs:
“Stassi thinks he’s hilarious, and they both share similar humor,” the insider continued.
“They have been spending a lot of time together, and he stays at her apartment often. They both bond over their obsession with their dogs. Beau has slowly been introduced to the Vanderpump circle and there have been no issues yet.”
Stassi was reluctant to speak about Beau when speaking to Cohen, but she did have some kind parting words for Meagher:
“He’s a wonderful person and whoever he finds is a really lucky woman,” she said.
“He’s just not right for me. Once you try twice, like give it two really good shots, you’re not supposed to be together.”
Is it possible that the cast of VPR is … growing up?!
Someone get this girl 14 Pump-tinis, STAT!
We need some bad decisions, and we need ‘em now!
Watch Vanderpump Rules online can make her way back to the op of the social totem pole.

Robert Brian Clark Dies; Catfish Star Was 33
Robert Brian Clark, who appeared on a memorable episode of Season 2 of Catfish, has tragically died, MTV News confirms this week.
He was just 33 years old.
Clark, who went by “Brian” on his Catfish episode, was reportedly killed in a motorcycle accident in Jefferson County, Alabama.
Local news reports described a tragic, harrowing scene.
It’s not clear exactly how, but Brian was thrown from his motorcycle after he “became airborne while crossing a set of railroad tracks.”
He was then hit by a car after landing on the highway.
When the motorcycle came landed after being airborne, it landed on its side and Clark was ejected from the bike before being struck.
The crash happened at 5 p.m. local time, and Clark was pronounced dead on the scene less than a half an hour afterward, at 5:20 p.m.
Simply awful.
According to reports, Brian passed away in December, but it appears that MTV only learned about, and mourned, his death this week.
In 2013, Brian appeared on Catfish with Jesse Bettinger, a pretty blonde who was worried that Brian was not who he appeared to be.
You can see a photo of the couple above.
He’d been portraying himself as a Southern gentleman, but Jesse, unsure of who she was dealing with online, enlisted the Catfish crew.
As she told Nev Schulman, she had been stood up by Brian once before, after driving hundreds of miles to meet up with him no less.
Brian later revealed that he missed their rendezvous because he was arrested for possessing a sawed-off shotgun that very same day.
Nevertheless, the online relationship continued, and when Brian and Jesse eventually met on Catfish, well, he was who he said he was.
That’s right, he was telling the truth all along.
A catch-up special later revealed to fans that they did not end up together, though they continued dating one another after the episode.
It’s not clear why they broke up, but Brian, a former U.S. Marine, had struggled with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) for years.
Jesse, now the mother of a two-year-old son, posted a tribute to Brian on Facebook, along with the caption, “I’ll never forget our good times.”
“Your struggle is finally over,” she said.
Sadly, Catfish Season 2 star Ashley Sawyer died within the last year as well (Mike Fortunato, the man she met on MTV, is also deceased).
Wednesday night’s episode of Catfish contained a short tribute to Brian Clark, with the network sharing its condolences and memories.

Mariah Carey on New Year"s Eve Debacle: What Would Dick Clark Have Done?!?
Mariah Carey is finally taking responsibility for her debacle of a performance on New Year’s Eve.
Kind of. Sort of.
Okay, maybe not responsibility, exactly.
But the singer has opened up extensively about the embarrassing “concert” in Times Square over this past weekend.. and at least she isn’t supporting allegations that she was sabotaged.
By now, you probably are familiar with what transpired on Saturday night/Sunday morning:
As the featured artist on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, Carey took to the stage and immediately experienced technical difficulties.
She messed with her earpiece. She couldn’t hear the background music.
She planned to lip sync, but had no way of matching up her mouth to the lyrics.
So she basically gave up, yammering away on stage and saying she would simply turn over the job of singing to the “audience” at one point.
As Jenny McCarthy rightly pointed out, it was a train wreck of epic proportions all around.
Watch snippets for yourself below:
Carey Tweeted “Sh-t happens” shortly after this so-called performance went viral, which likely would have been enough.
The story would have pretty much died if that had been it.
But then members of her team tried to blame the incident on Dick Clark Productions, arguing that Carey was set up to fail by producers.
Why didn’t the program cut to commercial once the technical difficulties became obvious, the singer’s rep argued?
Because it wanted to milk her breakdown for ratings, Mariah’s camp has said.
In response to this assertion, the production company fired back that it had “no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance.”
So… yeah. It’s been a pretty giant mess all around.
Even if Mariah’s boobs did look terrific during the Times Square humiliation:
Now, however, Carey has spoken to Entertainment Weekly, walking the fine line between owning up to her lack of preparation and blaming others for what happened.
“All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business,” Carey tells EW, adding:
“I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time.”
Oooookay.
That seems like quite the random point to make.
Carey is basically throwing shade at producers for not helping rescue her from the situation on stage, without going so far as to accuse them of anything under-handed.
Mariah goes on to say she’ll continue to do live events, but will be “less trusting of anyone outside my team.”
(That said, Entertainment Tonight has learned that the singer is no longer working with her longtime creative director and tour choreographer/dancer, Anthony Burrell.)
What sort of reaction has Carey received on social media and in person?
“My true fans have been so supportive and I am so appreciative of them and everybody in the media that came out to support me after the fact because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve,” she added to EW.
Hey, at least she’s admitting that the performance was “horrible.”
But it would have been nice if, just somewhere in this interview, Carey had taken at least partial responsibility for what went down.
Then again… if she had… she wouldn’t be the super diva we’ve all come to know and quasi love for her super diva-ness, would she?
