Kendall Jenner to Appear at Coachella Following Pepsi Debacle
Quick: What do Kendall Jenner and Sean Spicer have in common?
Well, aside from the fact that they both owe their careers to gigantic asses over which they have no control, they’ve both been involved in disastrously tone deaf PR blunders in recent weeks.
Sure Kendall didn’t defend Hitler on Passover or anything crazy like that, but her personal press nightmare was the result from a move that was astonishingly out of touch with the current zeitgeist, particularly by the standards of a globe-trotting 20-year-old who prides herself on her woke-ness.
As you’ve no doubt heard, Kendall starred in a Pepsi commercial last week.
But this wasn’t your grandfather’s Pepsi commercial, in which Kendall just shows up, looks pretty, and pretends to enjoy the taste of carbonated brown sugar water.
No, this was an attempt on Pepsi’s part to cash in on our nation’s political strife by demonstrating that rich white girl plus can of name-brand soda equals the answer to all the world’s problems:
We won’t even bother to delve into the ridiculousness of the ad, as social media has already roasted this thing to a crisp, but we recommend you watch it again if you’ve forgotten why it didn’t turn out to be pop-peddling classic, a la “I’d Like to Buy the World a Coke.”
(We think they made the mistake of having mid-bender Don Draper write this thing instead of yoga Don.)
Anyway, not surprisingly, Kendall has been keeping a low profile in the weeks since Twitter turned its wrath on her.
But we assume Kris Jenner sat her down and informed her that this family can’t afford another Recluse Rob, because Kendall is planning to make her big return to the spotlight at Coachella this weekend!
Okay, not actually at Coachella, but at a pair of corporate-sponsored events that are indirectly tied to the music fest.
First, Kendall will host a party thrown by the dating app Bumble.
We’re assuming host means “take the stage and stand around awkwardly for a few minutes, possibly while drinking a Coke.”
After that she’ll reportedly make six figures DJ-ing at 1Oak, because DJ-ing is apparently comething Kendall does now.
Sources say Kendall will be joined by sister Kylie at both events.
Attendees should know that there will be no harassment of Kendall, as security will be out in force at both parties.
Although if they get in your face, just offer them a can of soda, and they’ll probably back off.

Mariah Carey on New Year"s Eve Debacle: What Would Dick Clark Have Done?!?
Mariah Carey is finally taking responsibility for her debacle of a performance on New Year’s Eve.
Kind of. Sort of.
Okay, maybe not responsibility, exactly.
But the singer has opened up extensively about the embarrassing “concert” in Times Square over this past weekend.. and at least she isn’t supporting allegations that she was sabotaged.
By now, you probably are familiar with what transpired on Saturday night/Sunday morning:
As the featured artist on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest, Carey took to the stage and immediately experienced technical difficulties.
She messed with her earpiece. She couldn’t hear the background music.
She planned to lip sync, but had no way of matching up her mouth to the lyrics.
So she basically gave up, yammering away on stage and saying she would simply turn over the job of singing to the “audience” at one point.
As Jenny McCarthy rightly pointed out, it was a train wreck of epic proportions all around.
Watch snippets for yourself below:
Carey Tweeted “Sh-t happens” shortly after this so-called performance went viral, which likely would have been enough.
The story would have pretty much died if that had been it.
But then members of her team tried to blame the incident on Dick Clark Productions, arguing that Carey was set up to fail by producers.
Why didn’t the program cut to commercial once the technical difficulties became obvious, the singer’s rep argued?
Because it wanted to milk her breakdown for ratings, Mariah’s camp has said.
In response to this assertion, the production company fired back that it had “no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance.”
So… yeah. It’s been a pretty giant mess all around.
Even if Mariah’s boobs did look terrific during the Times Square humiliation:
Now, however, Carey has spoken to Entertainment Weekly, walking the fine line between owning up to her lack of preparation and blaming others for what happened.
“All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business,” Carey tells EW, adding:
“I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time.”
Oooookay.
That seems like quite the random point to make.
Carey is basically throwing shade at producers for not helping rescue her from the situation on stage, without going so far as to accuse them of anything under-handed.
Mariah goes on to say she’ll continue to do live events, but will be “less trusting of anyone outside my team.”
(That said, Entertainment Tonight has learned that the singer is no longer working with her longtime creative director and tour choreographer/dancer, Anthony Burrell.)
What sort of reaction has Carey received on social media and in person?
“My true fans have been so supportive and I am so appreciative of them and everybody in the media that came out to support me after the fact because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve,” she added to EW.
Hey, at least she’s admitting that the performance was “horrible.”
But it would have been nice if, just somewhere in this interview, Carey had taken at least partial responsibility for what went down.
Then again… if she had… she wouldn’t be the super diva we’ve all come to know and quasi love for her super diva-ness, would she?

Mariah Carey on New Year"s Eve Debacle: S--t Happens (and Producers Sabotaged Me)!
Mariah Carey is shaking off her failed New Year’s Eve performance, while her team is insinuating that she was set up to fail by producers.
By now, you’ve likely seen or at least heard about the music icon’s disastrous night in Times Square on Saturday night in NYC:
Carey failed to complete her planned performances for Ryan Seacrest’s annual New Year’s Rockin’ Eve special, baffling viewers nationwide.
Her reaction, in her own words:
S–t happens, people!
“Have a happy and healthy new year everybody! Here’s to making more headlines in 2017,” she added in a brief message to her Twitter fans.
Severe audio issues 86’d the performance, in which she was supposed to sing “Emotion,” “We Belong Together” and “Auld Lang Syne.”
Throughout the live gig, Carey told the crowd she couldn’t hear through her earpiece, telling them she was still “trying to be a good sport.”
“We didn’t have a [sound]check for this song, so we’ll just say it went to number one,” she said, adding that the track was missing “some of the vocals.”
“It is what it is.”
Carey ended her time on stage, a fitting conclusion to the year that was, by saying, “That was … amazing” and “it just don’t get any better.”
A rep for ABC had no comment when asked what the deal was, while a publicist for Dick Clark Productions was not immediately available.
Likely getting too hammered or too busy reading the Twitter comments, or both, as these were the national pastimes on Saturday night.
Singer Josh Groban notably tweeted, “Any time one of the greatest voices of my generation lip syncs an angel loses its wings.”
He didn’t name names, but it was obvious who he was referring to, and after getting some less-than favorable responses, he apologized.
Groban nixed the tweet and wrote:
“Deleted my tweets about a certain performance because it was made in humor but taken way more meanly than intended. Not out to diss artist.”
Jennifer Lopez also addressed the Carey disaster on social media, by liking a comment on Power 106 KMEL Big Von’s Instagram page.
Big Von shared a link to the performance and wrote, “Ever seen an accident you couldn’t take your eyes away from? That was her tonight!”
Fans noticed that one of the Likes on that comment is from none other than Lopez’s official account. Subtle shade, but shade nonetheless.
Sources in Carey’s camp, meanwhile, told TMZ and Billboard that believe she was “sabotaged” and that “production set her up to fail.”
Anyone buying that?
Dick Clark Productions sure as heck isn’t, and released the following statement about Mariah’s performance in response to those stories:
As the premier producer of live television events for nearly 50 years, we pride ourselves on our reputation and long-standing relationships with artists.
To suggest that DCP, as producer of music shows including the American Music Awards, Billboard Music Awards, New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and Academy of Country Music Awards, would ever intentionally compromise the success of any artist is defamatory, outrageous and frankly absurd.
The production company seemingly acknowledged that the issues faced by the 46-year-old singer were not her fault … or the company’s:
In very rare instances there are of course technical errors that can occur with live television.
However, an initial investigation has indicated that DCP had no involvement in the challenges associated with Ms. Carey’s New Year’s Eve performance.
We want to be clear that we have the utmost respect for Ms. Carey as an artist and acknowledge her tremendous accomplishments in the industry.
What do you make of all this, THGers? Obviously, we may never know what happened that night in Times Square, but we can tell you this:
It was the most 2016 thing ever.

Kim Kardashian KICKS OUT Kanye After Ellen Debacle?
These days, we’re hardly fazed by a Kanye West rant.
It’s just sort of like seeing a tree with leaves – it just goes with the territory.
So when we saw his latest seven-minute word vomit on Ellen, we all enjoyed a hearty chuckle then moved on.
It made about as much sense an an unsolved word scramble, but he basically talked about how he can improve the human race and stop bullying through clothing and can see sounds and something about Picasso and Steve Jobs.
I know, it’s whatever.
But evidently, it was the last straw for Kim Kardashian, who was absolutely “mortified” and threw him out of the house.
“His stuff is being moved back into his Hollywood Hills house,” a source told InTouch.
Kim was allegedly incensed that he would do such a thing to Ellen DeGeneres, who supposedly is a good friend.
“Kim told [Kanye] he owed Ellen a huge apology,” the source said.
“Ellen’s been a good friend to the Kardashians, and Kim thought his behavior was the ultimate insult.”
Yeah, taking up seven minutes of airtime like that is pretty outrageous, but Ellen just seemed to let him ramble, unconcerned about scheduled commercial breaks and advertisers.
It’s almost as if the whole thing was planned.
Call me a skeptic.
Yesterday, the couple celebrated their two-year wedding anniversary, which Kim commemorated with a throwback photo of her and Kanye on Instagram.
“Happy 2 year anniversary to the love of my life! You make me so happy! I love you so much!!!” she wrote in the caption.
So if she really threw him out, she’s certainly not copping to it on social media.
