Taylor Swift and Drake might seem like a bit of an odd couple, but take a moment to really think about it:
He’s successful, tall, foreign, and as emotional as the first ten minutes of the movie Up.
We wouldn’t go so far as to say he’s the Tom Hiddleston of rap, but … we can’t think of how else to end this sentence.
As you may already know, Drake and Rihanna broke up last week.
In all likelihood, RiRi dumped Drizzy, and he’s been crooning autotuned laments ever since.
So who better to offer him a shoulder to cry on than the queen of the breakup ballad herself, Taylor Swift?
Here’s the context:
Drake celebrated his 30th birthday with a star-studded bash in Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Rihanna was nowhere to be found, but according to Page Six, Taylor was by Drizzy’s side all night.
According to one witness, the A-listers “were intimately flirting, talking closely and laughing.
“The only person he spent more time with other than his mom was Taylor,” the source adds.
Wow. The only person he cares more about than his mom is the woman in his life?
We’d bet anything that in the past two days, Taylor has filled up about 14,000 Lisa Frank notebooks with the words “Mr. Swift.”
To be clear: that’s more of a shot at Drake than at Taylor.
Anyway, they were just tipsy and enjoying an intimate conversation, right?
Maybe. But it’s possible there’s a lot more going on here.
After all, Drake and Taylor have been friends for a long time.
They’re even longtime business acquaintances, having been regarded as the two most “treasured artists” in the Apple Music stable for several years now.
You may remember this commercial for the company in which Taylor rocks out to – you guessed it – a Drake song:
But again, none of that indicates that they’re anything more than just good friends.
Good friends who “intimately flirt,” maybe, but good friends nonetheless.
It’s worth pointing out, however, that Taylor took a big risk in order to be with Drizzy on his special day.
You see, Drake’s b-day fiesta was one of the most well-attended celebrity events of recent months.
That meant a wide array of stars were on hand – including Katy Perry and John Mayer.
Unless you’ve been living in a cave on Mars with really crappy wifi, you know that Katy and Taylor are feuding.
And by “feuding,” we mean each is prepared to rip the still-beating heart from the other’s ribcage if given a split-second opportunity.
With the exception of big, virtually-mandatory events like the Grammys, these two haven’t been under the same roof in over a year.
Yet a squad-free Taylor took the chance of running afoul her nemesis in order to be with Drake when he hit the big 3-0.
Obviously, this could all add up to a whole lot of nothing.
All we know is that it’s been almost two months since Taylor broke up with Hiddleston (approximately 4 millennia in Single Taylor Swift years), and she went to great lengths to do some canoodling with her “good friend” on his birthday.
We’re really hoping these two get together, but for purely selfish reasons.
Basically, we just want them to skip straight to the breakup so they can release the best albums of their careers.
What can we say?
We’re suckers for heartbroken crooning.
