As you’ve probably heard, Brad Pitt is being investigated by the FBI with regard to child abuse allegations stemming from a September 15 altercation with his eldest son, Maddox.
It was originally reported that the case against Pitt had been closed after officials determined that there was insufficient evidence to bring charges against the screen icon.
Now, however, it looks as though the Pitt investigation is ongoing, and authorities are now convinced that there’s more to the story than they initially thought.
“The agents wanted a breakdown of everything that happened from when the plane took off to when it landed,” an insider tells Us Weekly.
“They’re looking into charges of assault.”
Earlier this week, agents reportedly spent a full four hours interviewing Angelina Jolie about Pitt’s behavior, as well as her own relationship with the kids.
Sources add that the investigation into the September 15 incident has led authorities to look into previous incidents, one of which reportedly involves a confrontation between Pitt and Jolie that was witnessed by at least two of their children.
The Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services is also investigating.
As we reported last week Pitt has refused to respond to Jolie’s divorce filing, because doing so would likely result a lengthy – and potentially very ugly – court battle.
“Neither side wants this to go to court because everything the FBI and DCFS investigated will potentially be made available to the public,” says the insider.
“Which would be bad for the entire family.”
The source says that the investigation “will likely investigate for another few weeks.”
At the moment, it seems unlikely that Pitt will face criminal charges, but the insider believes the actor will “be under scruitiny for the next year.”
At least until the investigation is completed, Jolie will retain sole physical custody of the couple’s six kids, with Pitt being granted only supervised visitation.
While the investigation itself will likely wrap up some time in November, it may be quite a while before a family court judge rules on the findings.
“They will present the case to the prosecutor, who will evaluate whether they feel the need to bring charges against Brad,” continues the insider.
“It could potentially be months.”
During that time, Jolie will almost certainly retain sole custody rights.
