If you watched last night’s episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians you know that the show delivered what may have been it’s most dramatic episode to date.
The episode dealt with the aftermath of Kim Kardashian being robbed at gunpoint in Paris and made it clear just how traumatic the event was for all involved.
Kanye West left the stage mid-performance in order to be by his wife’s side.
Kris Jenner was reduced to tears discussing her fear of losing her daughter.
And Kim opened up about the experience like never before, offering fans an insight into just how shaken she was by feeling that her life was in the hands of masked strangers.
While the robbery took place back in October of 2016, anyone who’s ever experienced a traumatic event knows that it can take years to rebuild one’s sense of security, and Kim’s situation isn’t helped by the fact that she remains one of the most recognizable women on the planet.
In a preview for the next episode of KUWTK, Kim talks about her ongoing fear in the wake of the Paris incident, revealing that even with added security, she still doesn’t feel safe in her own home.
“I can’t sleep unless I have four security guards just outside my house,” Kim tells her sisters.
Kris goes into full protective mother mode, “It’s my job to take care of everybody.”
But the momager is clearly aware that keeping a family of international superstars safe is a task too monumental for any one person.
Asked by Khloe Kardashian if she feels the family has enough security, Kris replies simply, “No.”
Of course, Kim isn’t the only one to have experienced the frightening side of fame.
Kendall Jenner has dealt with stalkers and obsessed fans trespassing on her property.
She says that around the time of the Paris robbery, she was awakened by a man knocking on her window.
Needless to say, all of this creates a tension that we rarely associate with the breezy and often humorous tone of KUWTK.
The events serve as a potent reminder that while they’re often the butt of jokes about profound privilege and First World problems, their fame places them under a level of scrutiny that become frightening.
Kim has confessed that many of these problems are self-created, and that she and her sisters put themselves at risk by sharing so much of their lives with fans.
But that doesn’t make the reality of their situation any less scary.
