Pregnancy announcements are usually met with applause and well wishes.
Even from strangers.
Everyone gets excited when a husband and wife tell the public they’re bringing a new life into the world, right?
Typically, yes. But Josh Duggar and Anna Duggar do not comprise your typical couple.
Almost as if they wanted to bury the news during what they figured would be a slow time on the Internet, Josh and Anna confirmed they are expecting child number-five via the following statement on Friday night:
For nearly the last two years, we have quietly worked to save our marriage, focus on our children, and rebuild our lives together as a family.
Doing so is never easy after a breach of trust. We’ve learned that a life of faith and rebuilding a life together is simply done one day at a time. As we continue our journey as a family and rebuild our lives, we are delighted to share with you that we are expecting a new baby boy later this year.
Beauty comes from ashes and we cannot wait to see and kiss the face of this sweet new boy!
We don’t yet know when Anna is due, but we can do some basic math and determine she will welcome the baby some time in 2017.
Now, a member of the Duggar family announcing that she is pregnant may be less newsworthy than a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family posing on Instagram with very little clothing on.
But Anna is different.
Or, to be more accurate, her relationship with Josh is different.
In May of 2015, Josh Duggar admitted that he had molested multiple young girls when he was a teenager.
It later came out that two of his victims were sisters Jessa and Jill Duggar (and that Josh’s parents had sought private counseling when they learned of their son’s horrid actions, as opposed to police action).
And then it later came out that Duggar also cheated on Anna, after a hack revealed that he had an account on the adultery website Ashley Madison.
Josh confessed at the time that he had acted like “the biggest hypocrite ever,” taking responsibility for “being unfaithful to my wife.”
While Duggar disappeared for a few months to seek treatment in a rehab facility, many wondered when Anna would finally file for divorce.
Instead, she stuck around and now she’s gone ahead and gotten pregnant by a man who molested his own sisters and had sex with at least one woman who wasn’t his wife.
This may help explain why critics have sprung up online.
While Jessa and Jill have remained mum on Anna’s pregnancy, the same most definitely cannot be said for a number of social media users.
“@joshduggar are you disappointed your next kid is a boy? I bet you wanted a girl so you could name her Madison Ashley,” wrote one individual, while another didn’t even try to make a joke, simply writing:
“Josh got Anna pregnant AGAIN? She let him touch her?? That is absolutely f-cking disgusting!! #Duggar #JoshDuggar #AnnaDuggar.”
The silence from members of this infamous family really does say a lot.
Relatives often respond within days (if not hours) to news that a sibling or cousin is expecting a baby, something we’ve learned very well because this sort of news breaks A LOT when the Duggars are involved.
(To wit: Jessa gave birth to a son in February and Jill is currently expecting her second child.)
We understand all criticism of Josh Duggar and aren’t about to tell Internet users to curtail their bashing of this effed up individual.
But let’s try to lay off Anna Duggar, okay?
She’s basically trapped in a cult. It’s very safe to assume she’s been threatened by family members about how she’ll be cut off and ostracized if she tries to leave Josh at any time.
We talk a lot about Josh’s five victims from his molestation days, but the truth is that there’s a sixth victim at the center of this mess as well.
Her name is Anna Duggar and she likely does not see any way out.
