These days, Teen Mom and teen Mom 2 are such ratings juggernauts that it’s easy to forget that there was a third 16 and Pregnant spinoff that landed on MTV with a resounding thud.
Teen Mom 3 was canceled in 2013 after struggling to find an audience throughout its first and only season.
Perhaps it was just too much of a popular thing, or maybe viewers simply failed to connect with the cast the way they did with such likable and relatable figures as Jenelle Evans and Farrah Abraham.
(That’s sarcasm, for those of you feeling tempted to tear us apart in the comments.)
For whatever reason, the show never found a foothold, and MTV cut it loose after just a dozen episodes.
The cancelation was confirmed on Twitter by Briana DeJesus, a castmember who emerged early on as the fan favorite:
“Time to move on from MTV and do bigger and better things & no I don’t mean become a porn star lol,” DeJesus tweeted.
Briana may not have moved on to bigger and better things, but she’s remained a popular presence online.
(Maybe it has to do with her ability to throw subtle Farrah Abraham sex tape shade.)
Briana has fared better than the other stars of TM3 with a massive following on Instagram (84,000 followers) and the occasional TV spot. (She memorably did battle with her sister on VH1’s Family Therapy.)
So perhaps in the wake of news that DeJesus is pregnant with her second child, MTV has decided to give her another shot at Teen Mom stardom.
Yes, according to The Ashley’s Reality Roundup, Briana will join the cat of Teen Mom 2 for the show’s next season.
Not surprisingly, the rest of the ladies are reportedly not happy about the shakeup.
Part of the reason is that with the addition of a fifth principle castmember, they’re all bound to receive less screen time.
On top of that, several of the ladies have feuded with Briana including, especially (of course) Jenelle Evans.
In fact, Kailyn Lowry is the only member of the TM2 who follows Briana on social media.
Sadly, the ladies will continue to film in different states, so it may be quite some time before we get to see Jenelle and Briana throw down.
We might be in for one hell of a reunion show …
