It’s been nearly two weeks since Remy Ma Dropped “shETHER,” a scathing diss track targeted at the longtime rival Nicki Minaj.
Ma’s verses were absolutely brutal in their assault on everything from Nicki’s cosmetic surgery procedures to the reports surrounding Minaj’s brother’s alleged rape of a 12-year-old girl.
Fans expected that Nicki, never one to back down from a fight, would respond with an equally punishing takedown.
When a week passed without a response, they began to grow concerned.
When Azealia Banks sided with Remy, they began to despair.
When Remy dropped another diss track, this one chiding Nicki for a lack of a counter-argument, Nicki boosters began to worry that the battle was lost.
So they probably won’t be surprised to hear that Nicki is is officially throwing in the towel and waving the white flag, revealing today that she will not be replying to Remy’s bars any time in the near future.
Moments ago, TMZ broke the news that Nicki fans have been dreading:
The rapper apparently feels she’s “winning through silence,” making high-profile appearances at Paris Fashion Week and taking the occasional jab at her rival on Instagram, while Remy struggles to rebuild her life post-prison and copes with disappointing sales for her collaborative album with Fat Joe.
It’s the old “living well is the best revenge” approach.
The problem is, when a woman who claims to be the queen of rap takes that approach to an old-school hip hop beef, she basically hands the crown to her opponent.
Interestingly, the other high-profile mainstream beef of the past year involved Drake and Meek Mill, who happens to be Nicki’s ex-fiance.
In that situation, Meek took forever to respond, allowing Drake to drop not one, but two blistering tracks targeted at “Mr. Minaj.”
When Meek did finally clap back, his weak response got him roasted to a crisp on Twitter.
Perhaps Nicki feared a fate similar to her ex’s.
Maybe she stepped into the studio and the bars just weren’t coming for her.
Hell, maybe she heard Remy’s track and realized she was truly outmatched.
Whatever the case there’s no longer any question about who came out on top in this beef.
All hail Remy Ma, Queen of Hip Hop.
