The spotlight remained on Amy Roloff this week.
On the second new episode this spring of Little People, Big World, the family matriarch was once again the main cast member featured…
… and she once again spoke candidly about how awkward things can be with ex-husband Matt.
A week ago, Amy talked openly about how she’s considered moving off the family farm to get away from Matt.
Not because she has any especially hard feelings regarding the couple’s split, but because Matt is dating Caryn Chandler.
As long-time fans of this series and this family know well, Chandler got to know Amy and Matt long before they divorced in May of 2016.
She works as the manager on the farm, creating quite a bit of tension by then actually getting together with Matt romantically.
Amy has done her best to make the situation work, never bad-mouthing the couple in public or anything… but it’s clearly a strange set-up.
“Caryn is an employee and in a personal relationship with my ex-husband, so it is still hard to invite Caryn to some of the family events,” Roloff said on Tuesday evening’s installment, adding simply and honestly:
“I’d rather minimize the personal interaction. It’s not healthy for me.”
This is as open as Amy has ever been about Matt and Caryn, who are pictured below and who may even be engaged.
The family event in question on the episode was a baby shower for daughter Audrey.
Amy wanted to throw one for the mother-to-be and was torn on whether or not to invite Caryn.
“Even though it’s a challenge with Matt and I living on the farm together, being divorced but still business partners, we are still doing our best to communicate with one another,” she said on camera.
“I’m not sure for me if it will ever be as easy as I like to talk to him, whether it be business or otherwise, but we do make sure that if we’re having a family gathering that we both each know about it.”
This is a helpful way to approach the relationship.
But that doesn’t mean it’s always easy.
It’s worth also mentioning, of course, that Amy is very happy in her own romance with Chris Marek.
On last night’s episode, she spent time planning his birthday party.
Still, however, a bulk of the hour was spent trying to deal with Caryn and Matt and what to do about the baby shower.
“It is hard for me to say, ‘Yeah, go ahead and invite Caryn,’ because it is someone I’ve known for a long time,” she explained.
“Matt’s worked with her for many, many years, and that will always hurt to some degree, but it’s something that I will have to be an adult about it.”
Eventually, Amy chose to invite Caryn…
… but Caryn actually had other plans and could not attend.
“This is new to me,” she said. “It’s new to all of us, and I think we’re just treading lightly and doing the best that we can.”
Elsewhere on the episode, Tori was nervous to parent when Zach had to go away and Jeremy came close to finishing his home repairs.
