Demi Lovato Overdose Details: Did She Try to Take Her Own Life?

As you’ve likely heard by now, Demi Lovato suffered an overdose that left her hospitalized yesterday.

The news follows weeks of frightening reports about Lovato’s relapse after several more than six years of hard-earned sobriety.

Fortunately, sources close to the situation say Lovato is now awake and alert and resting comfortably in the presence of her family.

The bad news, of course, as is that her recovery process is sure to be a long and difficult one.

The news of Demi’s short-term turnaround comes to us courtesy of a statement from her reps that reads, in part:

“Demi is awake and with her family who want to express thanks to everyone for the love, prayers and support.”

Initial reports have the singer suffering an accidental heroin overdose, but new information indicates that may not have been the case.

For one thing, a new report from The Blast indicates that Demi overdosed on methamphetamines, not heroin.

That’s the claim made by a nurse who says she treated Lovato upon her arrival in the emergency room.

While it may explain why police had difficulty identifying the paraphernalia found in Demi’s home, it conflicts with other aspects of the story.

For example, Demi was reportedly found unconscious and was administered Narcan at the scene, both of which would be consistent with an overdose of opioids or some other potent depressant.

The Blast also claims that a police report indicates that Lovato was “uncooperative” and would not tell police what drugs she had taken.

The conflicting information has led many to theorize that Demi may have been mixing drugs.

That conclusion, in turn, has resulted in rumors that the singer intended to take her own life.

It may be quite some time for Lovato is willing to speak openly about her mindset in the hours leading up to her near-fatal dose.

At present, however, all of the information we have seems to point to an accidental overdose.

One insider says that while Demi had several years of sobriety under her belt, she never sufficiently addressed the demons that drove her down the path to addiction in the first place:

“Demi was never really clean and sober from all of her demons,” the source tells People.

“She has been fighting depression and anxiety for quite some time — and is still in such a dark place. She was sober for a while, but not completely sober for six years.”

The Lovato family has requested privacy from fans during this difficult time.
